. BHOPAL: Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination for the June 18 Rajya Sabha polls in MP was rejected Tuesday after scrutiny, turning election arithmetic on its head as BJP closed in on winning all three seats unopposed. Returning officer A P Singh rejected the nomination after BJP objected that Natarajan failed to disclose details of a pending case in Telangana.Congress branded the move “illegal” and alleged BJP had engineered a “constitutional conspiracy” to grab a third RS seat despite lacking numbers. Under election law, EC cannot overturn a returning officer’s decision during scrutiny. The stakes had already been running high after BJP sprang a surprise by fielding Mahesh Kewat as a third candidate. BJP, with 164 MLAs in the 230-member assembly, is comfortably placed to bag two seats. A candidate needs 58 votes to win, leaving Kewat dependent on surplus votes, cross-voting or abstentions.Natarajan was given a chance to furnish missing details, she didn’t do so: OfficialsNatarajan said, “BJP fielded a third candidate without adequate votes and we knew hurdles would be created.” She said, “First, they are stealing votes through SIR, now they are stealing seats. We will fight this battle through every democratic and constitutional forum available.”Unless Congress secures urgent relief from EC or Supreme Court, the contest now effectively stands reduced to three BJP candidates for three vacancies — setting the stage for an unopposed sweep in MP.Officials said that Meenakshi Natarajan was given an opportunity to furnish missing details but failed to do so, prompting rejection through a reasoned order.Congress disputed that interpretation. “The matter relates to BNS Section 223 concerning intentional disobedience of a lawful order by a public servant. It is not a criminal case in the conventional sense,” Congress legal cell representative Ajay Gupta said. “There was no requirement to disclose it under prescribed norms.”Gupta said the party would challenge the rejection before appropriate legal forums, including EC and SC.Congress fumes as Natarajan’s RS nomination nixed, BJP close to winning all 3 in MPBJP countered that RO had merely followed law and SC guidelines on disclosure of pending criminal matters. “Apart from an FIR, if a court summons has been issued in a criminal matter, declaration is compulsory,” BJP legal cell member Sanket Gupta said. “She can’t claim ignorance because she herself responded to the notice issued by a Hyderabad court.”Read the latest news on the go. . Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji, central govt has completed 12 years dedicated to trust, development and public welfare. This glorious era of ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ has witnessed unprecedented growth in India’s development, security, economic empowerment and global prestige.Congress left the country with a legacy of uncertainty, corruption and weak leadership, while PM Modi has given Bharat a new identity built on self-confidence, good governance and development. Today, the world sees Bharat not merely as a regional power but as one of the greatest powers of the 21st century. While Congress viewed politics merely as a tool to protect dynastic legacy for years, PM Modi redefined it as a mission of ‘Nation Above Family’ and ‘Service Above Power’.In 2014, PM first gave the nation ‘Collective Thinking’, then on the strength of public trust, converted that thinking into ‘Collective Resolve’, and today that very resolve has taken the form of a vast ‘Collective Dream’ in the shape of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.This great transformation began with an unprecedented revolution in infrastructure. Before 2014, the country was struggling with a shortage of basic facilities. The result of this change on the ground is that more than 12 crore toilets have been built, 100% electrification has been achieved, expressway network has grown 7 times, and airports have risen from 74 to 165.This era stands as a testament to our liberation from a colonial mindset and marks the beginning of true decolonisation. The renaming of historic landmarks to Lok Kalyan Marg, Kartavya Path and Seva Teerth are living proof of this cultural resurgence.Today’s youth is not becoming a ‘job seeker’ but a ‘job giver’. With more than 2 lakh startups and over 125 unicorns, India is moving from ‘man power’ towards ‘manufacturing power’. Similarly, the country is witnessing a shift from ‘women development’ to ‘women-led development’, where more than 3 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and a fourfold increase in women officers in security forces reflect self-reliance of Nari Shakti. In the field of welfare of poor, 25 crore people have been brought above poverty line. Four crore permanent houses, Ayushman shield for over 44 crore citizens, and collateral-free loans worth Rs 40 lakh crore under PM Mudra Yojana formed its foundation. Driven by the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile trinity and UPI, India now clocks an incredible Rs 314 lakh crore in annual digital transactions, commanding 49% share of global digital payments.Strategic priority given to border development under PM Modi marks a profound shift in national policy. What were once overlooked as India’s ‘last villages’ have now taken centerstage as India’s ‘first villages’.Finally, after a wait of 500 years, construction of the grand Ram temple and restoration of Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Mahakal Mahalok are reawakening of that civilisational consciousness of our cultural nationalism.Today, India is not only growing continuously stronger internally but has also rapidly emerged as a superpower on the global stage. CJI Surya Kant (Source: ANI) NEW DELHI: CJI Surya Kant has taken up the death threats being issued to retired Bombay HC judge Justice Gautam Patel with the Indian high commission in London, and has been assured that adequate security arrangements have been put in place for him and his family. The CJI, who is on an official visit to the UK, met Indian high commissioner P Kumaran hours after Justice Patel went public about the threat letter delivered to his daughter’s residence in London.“I had a discussion with the high commissioner, who assured that no harm would come to him or his family and that adequate security arrangements have been made by the London police,” CJI Kant told TOI.Justice Patel on Monday had said the letter was in response to a judgment he passed in 2024. The case, which is pending appeal, sought to establish the succession and name of the Syedna, the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community.Over the past 10 months, the Patel family has received several anonymous letters, including one in 2025 which, Justice Patel said, “accused me of having delivered my judgment fraudulently, under pressure”. The letter asked the judge to release a video on YouTube to state he had “delivered an incorrect verdict… which has caused irreparable harm to the faith and future of a respected community of a million plus members”.On the attack on his daughter in London, Justice Patel had said, “This is a clever attempt to leverage the jurisdictional gap between Mumbai and London. There has been no attack on me in Mumbai, for that would result in immediate local action. Instead, the attack is directed against my daughter, a British citizen, on British soil. The connection to me and the judgment remains, but the actual attack — and therefore actual investigation — gets localised to UK.”The high commissioner informed the CJI the threat appeared to have originated in India as the intimidation was related to a case in Maharashtra. CJI Kant said, “I have sent a message to the acting chief justice of Bombay HC (Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge) to take appropriate steps on the judicial and administrative side as the litigation pertained to local parties.” The CJI is expected to be back in India on June 12.Read the latest news on the go. CJI Kant said, “I have sent a message to the acting chief justice of Bombay HC (Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge) to take appropriate steps on the judicial and administrative side as the litigation pertained to local parties.” The CJI is expected to be back in India on June 12.Read the latest news on the go. . Amidst the escalating unrest in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), an intel dossier has detailed systematic violence by Pakistani forces in POK between June 5 and June 9, noting that it was the Barmang Bridge shooting which sparked the wider crisis. The Pakistani military, it says, targeted the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a peaceful movement demanding economic reforms, banning it under anti-terror laws. Chaos unfolded after the targeted assassination of JAAC executive member Shahzaib Habib by the army.Official fatalities are of 11 men, but the report reveals that 19 children and seven pregnant women were among those killed. Pakistan has deployed 14,000 mainland troops, imposing a communications blackout and firing live ammunition at unarmed mourners. The unrest, it says, stems from deep-rooted grievances over political marginalisation and the exploitation of the region’s hydropower resources to benefit mainland Pakistan, while local residents face chronic electricity shortages and high tariffs, it says. The JAAC had mobilised the public around a 38-point Charter of Demands, which included restoring affordable wheat subsidies, abolishing state-funded privileges for politicians, securing regional resource royalties, and genuine local governance free from Islamabad’s interference. “The protests reignited after the government failed to fulfil the Oct 2025 Muzaffarabad Agreement, missing a six-month deadline to address these constitutional and economic demands.Violence escalated sharply following the killing of Habib,” the report reads. Pak military launched mass arrests, detaining over 72 civil leaders and sealing the JAAC’s central office. On June 7, security forces used batons, tear gas, and live ammunition against mourners gathered for Habib’s funeral prayers. As 4.5 million Kashmiris were called to march on June 9, violence erupted across multiple districts. In Bhimber, forces shelled unarmed civilian convoys attempting to march towards Rawalakot. In Mang, where 27 civilians were reportedly killed, protesters captured Pakistani military personnel. The report also documents the killing of POK police sub-inspector Sardar Inayat by the Pakistan army. Inayat was executed for refusing to follow orders to open fire on protesters.Read the latest news on the go.
