His closest rival, Om Prakash Yadav of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), received 74,812 votes, losing by a narrow margin of 1,973 votes.In the 2015 assembly elections, the constituency had 2,80,805 electors, with 1,57,489 valid votes recorded. That year, Vyas Deo Prasad of the BJP won the seat, polling 55,156 votes.
