AIFF confirms date as India set to face two-time World Cup champions Uruguay

India will face two-time FIFA World Cup winners Uruguay in a major international friendly on October 6 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.The match will be part of a busy FIFA window for India, with the team set to play three strong opponents in just 11 days.

India set for major World Cup tests

India will first meet Panama in Bengaluru on September 26 before taking on five-time world champions Brazil in Kolkata on October 3. Uruguay, currently ranked 20th in the world, will then arrive for the final match on October 6.Uruguay have won the World Cup twice, lifting the trophy in 1930 and 1950. Their visit gives Indian players another chance to test themselves against experienced international opposition.The Uruguay match will come only three days after Brazil’s visit, making Kolkata the main football venue during the window. The connection with India also runs through Uruguay coach Diego Forlán, who played for Mumbai City FC in 2016.With Panama, Brazil and Uruguay all featuring World Cup experience, India will have a rare opportunity to face three established international teams in one FIFA window. The matches could provide valuable experience as India prepares for future competitions.
