UP Board pushes APAAR ID creation for Classes 9-12; students can register without it

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has directed schools to facilitate the creation of APAAR IDs for students studying in Classes 9 to 12 and record the IDs in advance registration and examination application forms. The board has set a target of recording APAAR IDs for all students before the registration deadline. However, students without an APAAR ID will not be stopped from completing their registration or applying for the board examinations, officials have clarified.

UP Board registration, exam applications underway

The directive comes as advance registration for students of Classes 9 and 11, and examination application processes for Classes 10 and 12 are currently underway. The board has nevertheless asked school principals and teachers to make efforts to ensure that students obtain their APAAR IDs and that the details are entered into the relevant records before the deadline.

APAAR ID to provide digital academic identity

APAAR, or Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, is a 12-digit permanent digital identity created for students. It is intended to provide a digital link to a student’s academic records throughout their educational journey. For UP Board students, the ID can be used to connect important academic documents, including marksheets and transfer certificates, with their digital records. These documents can be stored and accessed through DigiLocker, reducing students’ dependence on physical copies of certificates. The system could also make it easier to retrieve academic records when they are required for admissions, scholarships and other official purposes.

Parent consent required for APAAR ID creation

The creation of an APAAR ID requires the consent of the student’s parent or guardian. The UP Board has therefore asked school authorities to coordinate with parents and students to complete the process.Principals have been instructed to ensure that maximum efforts are made to record the IDs of students before the final registration deadline. The board’s latest direction is aimed at increasing the coverage of APAAR IDs among school students and establishing a digital record of their academic credentials.

Students will not lose registration opportunity without APAAR ID

While the UP Board is seeking APAAR ID details from all students, the ID is not currently a compulsory requirement for registration or examination applications.Students who have not completed the APAAR ID process can therefore proceed with their board-related formalities. The board’s focus at present is on encouraging schools and families to complete the digital ID process alongside the ongoing registration activities.
