ANI image NEW DELHI: Political parties across Punjab on Monday criticised the removal of Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Satluj from streaming platform ZEE5, with leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress calling for the film’s restoration and saying Punjab’s history should not be suppressed through censorship.The Honey Trehan-directed film, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, was released on ZEE5 on Friday without cuts after remaining stuck with the censors for more than three years. However, the platform removed it from India on Sunday without specifying the reason.SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal termed the move an attack on freedom of expression.”This is not mere censorship, it is an assault on our collective memory, truth, and freedom of expression,” Badal said.”I strongly condemn this move. Punjab deserves to confront its past with honesty, not suppression,” he added.Punjab’s ruling AAP also condemned the decision and demanded that the film be restored, saying it was important for younger generations to understand the state’s history.AAP leader Baltej Pannu alleged that the BJP and Congress were trying to erase a painful chapter of Punjab’s past.”The younger generation wants to know what happened in Punjab during 1978, 1984, the 1990s and other crucial periods. If they are denied books and documentaries, films become an important way of preserving historical truth,” Pannu said.AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang questioned why films on Punjab’s past faced restrictions while other politically sensitive films were freely screened.Senior Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira also criticised the removal of the film.”I strongly condemn the removal of ‘Satluj’ film enacted by Diljit Dosanjh about police brutality in abducting and eliminating Prof Jaswant Singh Khalra, Human Rights activist in 1995,” Khaira said.Congress MP Dharamvira Gandhi described the move as “unfortunate” and an attack on freedom of expression.Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon said the party was looking into the matter.”I am finding out the reason. We are taking up the matter,” he told reporters.The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also opposed the film’s removal.”The film should not have been removed from the platform. The government should ensure that people see this film. What is wrong if reality is shown and public come to know of what happened during those days in Punjab,” SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Manan said.SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said removing the film would not erase history.”History cannot be banned. The more you try to suppress it, the stronger Diljit’s ‘Satluj’ will flow,” he said.Satluj, originally titled Punjab ’95, chronicles the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated the alleged cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab between 1984 and 1994. Khalra disappeared in 1995, and four Punjab Police personnel were later convicted in his abduction and murder case. Krishna Mohan has been given additional charge as interim general secretary.Addressing a press conference in Ayodhya, Giri said Rai had dedicated his life to the Ram temple movement and chose to resign to ensure a fair investigation.”In these circumstances, we accepted the resignation. At the same time, we expressed our appreciation for the services rendered by Champat Rai Ji. It was an extraordinary decision that he took voluntarily. He has worked for the construction of the Ram Temple for many years, from the very beginning, when there was not even any activity of this kind, until today. While acknowledging and respecting all the work he has done, we also accepted his resignation in view of the generosity he showed in taking this decision under the present circumstances.”Giri also made it clear that Rai’s resignation did not diminish his personal regard for the veteran VHP leader.”He is untainted in my eyes. He has lived a life of sacrifice for the Ram temple movement,” Giri said.Explaining why the trust accepted the resignations, Giri said the decision was mandated by the trust’s constitution after legal advice from senior jurist K Parasaran.”In this situation, it became necessary for us to act because of the atmosphere that has been created. Our General Secretary, Champat Rai, and trustee Anil Mishra submitted their resignations. As the General Secretary of the Trust, Champat Rai Ji felt pained. He believed that until the entire matter is resolved properly, the accused are caught, and they receive appropriate punishment, it would not be appropriate for them to continue in their positions. With this thought, he voluntarily submitted his resignation. Whether to accept or reject the resignation was not in our hands. K. Parasaran raised an important point. He explained that, according to the Constitution of the Trust, once a resignation is submitted, it is deemed to have been accepted automatically. Therefore, we had no other option. He read out the relevant clauses of the Trust Constitution and explained to us that once the resignation had been submitted, accepting or rejecting it was no longer a matter of our discretion. We had to treat the resignation as accepted.”Krishna Mohan has been entrusted with the responsibilities of interim general secretary until a permanent appointment is made.”We remain committed to ensuring the smooth functioning of all future arrangements. The responsibility of serving as the interim General Secretary has been entrusted to Shri Krishna Mohan Ji, who is seated with me. He will choose a few colleagues to assist him and, together with them, will carry out these responsibilities. Given his approach and experience, we are confident that he will discharge these duties with great efficiency.”The trust also announced the formation of a three-member committee to recommend candidates for the post of general secretary. The panel comprises retired Justice Pradeep Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi and Suresh Havare, a former administrator of the Shirdi Sai Baba Trust.”It has been decided that, while the Board of Trustees will be fully constituted, a three-member committee has been appointed to present names to us. This committee comprises retired Justice Pradeep Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi, and Suresh ji Havare, who successfully managed the Shirdi institution for ten years. We have finalised this three-member committee; they will interview various candidates and submit names to us, from which we will make the final selection.”On the theft investigation, Giri said the trust wanted strict action against everyone involved while cautioning people against what he described as misinformation surrounding the case.”One thing we want to state clearly is that theft is theft. The investigation into the incident is being carried out by the SIT, and it is the responsibility of the authorities to identify those responsible. We also insist that the accused be traced, and if there are others involved, they too should be identified and punished in accordance with the law.”He also alleged that some groups were attempting to exploit the controversy.”At the same time, it is important to understand that some people are using this incident as a pretext to create a nationwide uproar. Their intentions are not clear. Those who are now trying to lecture us in the name of devotion to Lord Ram are the very people who, in the past, opposed the Ram Temple movement, including those who had argued before the Supreme Court that Lord Ram never existed and that the Ram Setu was not man-made. People who have opposed Ram bhakti are now projecting themselves as its champions. Their sudden display of devotion is driven by other motives…The Hindu community should understand that the main objective behind this campaign is to create divisions among devotees of Lord Ram. I appeal to all devotees of Lord Ram, devotees of Lord Krishna, followers of Sanatan Dharma, and all those who have faith in Hindu traditions not to believe every allegation or rumour…”The trust also urged people to verify information before believing reports circulating on various media platforms.”Many media outlets are making baseless allegations and spreading misinformation. We want to caution the public against such false narratives.”The trust said Rs 3,264 crore had been received through the fund contribution campaign and corpus donations, of which Rs 2,370 crore had been spent on construction and capital expenditure. It also said Rs 582 crore had been received as offerings till March 31, 2026, with Rs 391 crore utilised for operational expenses and the remaining funds retained in bank accounts.According to the trust, 2,926 offerings in kind made by devotees have been recorded in a register, undergo annual physical verification by an independent chartered accountancy firm and can be verified by devotees through prior appointment with trust officials in Ayodhya.Congress attacks trust, seeks wider probeReacting to the trust’s decision, Congress leader Pawan Khera said the acceptance of the resignations amounted to an acknowledgment of the allegations surrounding the Ram temple donation theft case.”By accepting the resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, the Ram Mandir Trust has effectively accepted that ‘Chanda Chori’ reports that have horrified the nation for the past month are indeed true,” Khera said in a post on X.Calling the resignations “welcome”, Khera said they were insufficient and demanded a complete overhaul of the trust.”It is welcome news that the sacred Mandir of Lord Ram is finally being rid of those who have been looting it for years. But that is nowhere near enough,” he said.Khera also questioned the role of the trust’s leadership, saying the treasurer could not “wash his hands of responsibility”, and criticised the appointment of Krishna Mohan as interim general secretary.”The country does not need piecemeal resignations. It deserves a complete dissolution and overhaul of the Trust, and every one of its members must face an independent, Supreme Court-supervised investigation,” he said.The Congress leader further demanded accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and the RSS and VHP.”Accountability should also not end with the Trust. It must also extend to Narendra Modi, who constituted the Trust and appointed many of its members; to the Yogi Adityanath administration, which allowed this loot and dacoity to persist for years without effective scrutiny; and to the RSS-VHP mafia, which has exploited the name of Lord Ram to enrich itself at the expense of crores of Indians for decades,” Khera said.Get the latest India news and live updates. While acknowledging and respecting all the work he has done, we also accepted his resignation in view of the generosity he showed in taking this decision under the present circumstances.”Giri also made it clear that Rai’s resignation did not diminish his personal regard for the veteran VHP leader.”He is untainted in my eyes. He has lived a life of sacrifice for the Ram temple movement,” Giri said.Explaining why the trust accepted the resignations, Giri said the decision was mandated by the trust’s constitution after legal advice from senior jurist K Parasaran.”In this situation, it became necessary for us to act because of the atmosphere that has been created. Our General Secretary, Champat Rai, and trustee Anil Mishra submitted their resignations. As the General Secretary of the Trust, Champat Rai Ji felt pained. He believed that until the entire matter is resolved properly, the accused are caught, and they receive appropriate punishment, it would not be appropriate for them to continue in their positions. With this thought, he voluntarily submitted his resignation. Whether to accept or reject the resignation was not in our hands. K. Parasaran raised an important point. He explained that, according to the Constitution of the Trust, once a resignation is submitted, it is deemed to have been accepted automatically. Therefore, we had no other option. He read out the relevant clauses of the Trust Constitution and explained to us that once the resignation had been submitted, accepting or rejecting it was no longer a matter of our discretion. We had to treat the resignation as accepted.”Krishna Mohan has been entrusted with the responsibilities of interim general secretary until a permanent appointment is made.”We remain committed to ensuring the smooth functioning of all future arrangements. The responsibility of serving as the interim General Secretary has been entrusted to Shri Krishna Mohan Ji, who is seated with me. He will choose a few colleagues to assist him and, together with them, will carry out these responsibilities. Given his approach and experience, we are confident that he will discharge these duties with great efficiency.”The trust also announced the formation of a three-member committee to recommend candidates for the post of general secretary. The panel comprises retired Justice Pradeep Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi and Suresh Havare, a former administrator of the Shirdi Sai Baba Trust.”It has been decided that, while the Board of Trustees will be fully constituted, a three-member committee has been appointed to present names to us. This committee comprises retired Justice Pradeep Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi, and Suresh ji Havare, who successfully managed the Shirdi institution for ten years. We have finalised this three-member committee; they will interview various candidates and submit names to us, from which we will make the final selection.”On the theft investigation, Giri said the trust wanted strict action against everyone involved while cautioning people against what he described as misinformation surrounding the case.”One thing we want to state clearly is that theft is theft. The investigation into the incident is being carried out by the SIT, and it is the responsibility of the authorities to identify those responsible. We also insist that the accused be traced, and if there are others involved, they too should be identified and punished in accordance with the law.”He also alleged that some groups were attempting to exploit the controversy.”At the same time, it is important to understand that some people are using this incident as a pretext to create a nationwide uproar. Their intentions are not clear. Those who are now trying to lecture us in the name of devotion to Lord Ram are the very people who, in the past, opposed the Ram Temple movement, including those who had argued before the Supreme Court that Lord Ram never existed and that the Ram Setu was not man-made. People who have opposed Ram bhakti are now projecting themselves as its champions. Their sudden display of devotion is driven by other motives…The Hindu community should understand that the main objective behind this campaign is to create divisions among devotees of Lord Ram. I appeal to all devotees of Lord Ram, devotees of Lord Krishna, followers of Sanatan Dharma, and all those who have faith in Hindu traditions not to believe every allegation or rumour…”The trust also urged people to verify information before believing reports circulating on various media platforms.”Many media outlets are making baseless allegations and spreading misinformation. We want to caution the public against such false narratives.”The trust said Rs 3,264 crore had been received through the fund contribution campaign and corpus donations, of which Rs 2,370 crore had been spent on construction and capital expenditure. It also said Rs 582 crore had been received as offerings till March 31, 2026, with Rs 391 crore utilised for operational expenses and the remaining funds retained in bank accounts.According to the trust, 2,926 offerings in kind made by devotees have been recorded in a register, undergo annual physical verification by an independent chartered accountancy firm and can be verified by devotees through prior appointment with trust officials in Ayodhya.Congress attacks trust, seeks wider probeReacting to the trust’s decision, Congress leader Pawan Khera said the acceptance of the resignations amounted to an acknowledgment of the allegations surrounding the Ram temple donation theft case.”By accepting the resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, the Ram Mandir Trust has effectively accepted that ‘Chanda Chori’ reports that have horrified the nation for the past month are indeed true,” Khera said in a post on X.Calling the resignations “welcome”, Khera said they were insufficient and demanded a complete overhaul of the trust.”It is welcome news that the sacred Mandir of Lord Ram is finally being rid of those who have been looting it for years. But that is nowhere near enough,” he said.Khera also questioned the role of the trust’s leadership, saying the treasurer could not “wash his hands of responsibility”, and criticised the appointment of Krishna Mohan as interim general secretary.”The country does not need piecemeal resignations. It deserves a complete dissolution and overhaul of the Trust, and every one of its members must face an independent, Supreme Court-supervised investigation,” he said.The Congress leader further demanded accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and the RSS and VHP.”Accountability should also not end with the Trust. It must also extend to Narendra Modi, who constituted the Trust and appointed many of its members; to the Yogi Adityanath administration, which allowed this loot and dacoity to persist for years without effective scrutiny; and to the RSS-VHP mafia, which has exploited the name of Lord Ram to enrich itself at the expense of crores of Indians for decades,” Khera said.Get the latest India news and live updates. Court grants bail to woman accused in TCS Nashik sexual harassment, conversion case A local court has granted bail to the woman accused in the alleged sexual harassment and religious conversion case at Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) branch in Nashik.Additional Sessions Judge K G Joshi of the Nashik Road Court granted bail to the main accused in the case but denied the same relief to the co-accused, as cited by PTI.Represented by advocate Rahul Kasliwal, the woman sought bail primarily on the grounds of her pregnancy.Public Prosecutor Vijay Gaikwad, along with the victim’s counsel Milind Kurkute and Nitin Pandit, opposed the bail applications of both accused.The prosecution argued that evidence of alleged sexual assault and religious coercion emerged during the investigation.It submitted that one of the accused had given the victim, a co-worker, an Islamic book and a burqa with the intention of converting her to Islam.The prosecution further argued that these actions indicated the victim was allegedly subjected to sexual exploitation and attempts were made to convert her.It also alleged that the accused attempted to convert the victim despite knowing that she belonged to a Scheduled Caste.The case relates to an FIR registered at the Deolali Camp police station under Sections 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), 65 (sexual harassment) and 299 (outraging religious feelings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The two accused have also been booked under relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.A Special Investigation Team of the Nashik Police is investigating nine cases linked to allegations of exploitation, attempted forced religious conversion, outraging religious sentiments, molestation and mental harassment of female employees at the TCS unit in the city.According to the Nashik City Police, the complaint alleged that a Hindu woman in her early 20s had begun following Islamic practices under the influence of colleagues at her workplace.Get the latest India news and live updates. Krishna Mohan takes charge as interim Ram Mandir Trust general secretary after Champat Rai steps down NEW DELHI: Krishna Mohan has been appointed interim general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, replacing Champat Rai after the Trust accepted his resignation on Monday.Champat Rai stepped down citing moral responsibility amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged embezzlement of donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Trustee Anil Mishra’s resignation was also accepted during the Trust’s meeting.Speaking to reporters after being appointed interim general secretary Krishna Mohan said he had been entrusted with the responsibility until a permanent appointment is made. He also said the Trust would ensure strict action against anyone found guilty in the alleged donation embezzlement case.”I have been entrusted with the responsibility of discharging the duties of General Secretary in an acting capacity until a new General Secretary is appointed. Anyone found guilty in this matter, we will insist and remain firm in our insistence that they receive appropriate punishment in accordance with justice,” he said.”We are all deeply pained by the events that have transpired; everyone has suffered, including the devotees of Ram. There were certain shortcomings in management and operations that were exploited by others. Therefore, my primary endeavour will be to plug these loopholes and rectify errors. I will make every effort to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future,” he added.He added that the controversy had affected the Trust’s public image and said efforts would be made to restore people’s confidence.”The prevailing atmosphere has somewhat tarnished the image of our Trust, giving rise to a sense of mistrust within society. We will take all necessary steps to dispel this negative perception and rebuild trust within the community,” Krishna Mohan said.Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, successor to Trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, also confirmed the decision.”Krishna Mohan has been entrusted with the responsibility of Interim General Secretary. Gopal Rao was not called to the meeting. Champat Rai was also not present in the meeting,” he said.The decision was taken during a three-hour meeting of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust held at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya. Seven of the Trust’s nine permanent members, including chairman Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, attended the meeting, while Champat Rai and Anil Mishra were absent.Who is Krishna MohanKrishna Mohan is a permanent trustee of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and a retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer.A native of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, the 73-year-old joined the Trust as a permanent member in September 2025, replacing late trustee Kameshwar Chaupal. He was inducted from the same community as Chaupal.Krishna Mohan has since been involved in the Trust’s administrative affairs. Following the resignation of Champat Rai, he has now been entrusted with the additional responsibility of serving as the interim general secretary until a permanent appointment is made.Why did Champat Rai resignChampat Rai offered to resign as general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on moral grounds following allegations of embezzlement involving donations made by devotees at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Krishna Mohan takes charge as interim Ram Mandir Trust general secretary after Champat Rai steps down NEW DELHI: Krishna Mohan has been appointed interim general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, replacing Champat Rai after the Trust accepted his resignation on Monday.Champat Rai stepped down citing moral responsibility amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged embezzlement of donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Trustee Anil Mishra’s resignation was also accepted during the Trust’s meeting.Speaking to reporters after being appointed interim general secretary Krishna Mohan said he had been entrusted with the responsibility until a permanent appointment is made. He also said the Trust would ensure strict action against anyone found guilty in the alleged donation embezzlement case.”I have been entrusted with the responsibility of discharging the duties of General Secretary in an acting capacity until a new General Secretary is appointed. Anyone found guilty in this matter, we will insist and remain firm in our insistence that they receive appropriate punishment in accordance with justice,” he said.”We are all deeply pained by the events that have transpired; everyone has suffered, including the devotees of Ram. There were certain shortcomings in management and operations that were exploited by others. Therefore, my primary endeavour will be to plug these loopholes and rectify errors. I will make every effort to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future,” he added.He added that the controversy had affected the Trust’s public image and said efforts would be made to restore people’s confidence.”The prevailing atmosphere has somewhat tarnished the image of our Trust, giving rise to a sense of mistrust within society. We will take all necessary steps to dispel this negative perception and rebuild trust within the community,” Krishna Mohan said.Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, successor to Trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, also confirmed the decision.”Krishna Mohan has been entrusted with the responsibility of Interim General Secretary. Gopal Rao was not called to the meeting. Champat Rai was also not present in the meeting,” he said.The decision was taken during a three-hour meeting of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust held at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya. Seven of the Trust’s nine permanent members, including chairman Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, attended the meeting, while Champat Rai and Anil Mishra were absent.Who is Krishna MohanKrishna Mohan is a permanent trustee of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and a retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer.A native of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, the 73-year-old joined the Trust as a permanent member in September 2025, replacing late trustee Kameshwar Chaupal. He was inducted from the same community as Chaupal.Krishna Mohan has since been involved in the Trust’s administrative affairs. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted, and its preliminary findings led to the registration of an FIR.Last week, eight people named in the FIR were arrested.
