The DMK secured 59 seats, while the AIADMK won 47. Power in Tamil Nadu has traditionally alternated between the DMK and AIADMK for decades.Despite emerging as the biggest party, TVK failed to cross the majority mark of 118 seats. The party remained 10 seats short initially, creating uncertainty over government formation. The situation became more complicated because Vijay is expected to vacate one of the two seats he won, reducing TVK’s effective strength from 108 to 107.Tamil Nadu governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar invited Vijay to Lok Bhavan but did not immediately ask him to form the government. According to ANI sources, the governor sought clarity on the “magic number” required for government formation and asked Vijay to furnish details of legislators backing TVK’s claim to form the government.Congress extended support to TVK with its five MLAs, taking the alliance tally to 113. The move became politically significant because Congress backed Vijay instead of standing with its long-time ally DMK, triggering tensions within the Secular Progressive Alliance, with the DMK reportedly calling Congress a “backstabber”.TVK intensified efforts to secure support from smaller parties including PMK, Left parties, CPM and VCK. Even after Congress support, TVK’s effective tally was expected to stand at 112 after Vijay vacates one seat, still five short of the majority mark of 118.Several leaders, including VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan and leaders from Left parties, accused governor Arlekar of acting under pressure from the BJP-led Union government to delay or complicate the constitutional process. According to ANI sources, 28 AIADMK legislators supporting senior leader CV Shanmugam were shifted to a private resort in Puducherry, fuelling speculation that sections within the AIADMK were considering support for TVK. Sources claimed discussions included a possible deputy chief minister’s post and key ministerial portfolios for CV Shanmugam. NEW DELHI: More than a year after the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI allegedly plotted attacks on a historic temple in Delhi, a popular dhaba on the Delhi-Sonipat highway and a military camp in Haryana through operatives linked to the Shahzad Bhatti module, sources said on Friday.The alleged conspiracy surfaced during the interrogation of nine suspected operatives of the module, arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell under its ‘Gang Bust Operation 2.0’ from multiple states.According to news agency PTI sources, investigators found that one of the accused had conducted reconnaissance of a historic temple in Delhi and shared photographs of the premises with Pakistan-based handlers through social media platforms.The module had allegedly planned to target police and paramilitary personnel deployed at the temple and open fire to trigger panic and disruption, a source said.The source further said the accused were also assigned the task of carrying out a grenade attack at a popular dhaba on the Delhi-Sonipat highway, frequented daily by thousands of people, with the intention of causing large-scale damage and casualties.”A military camp in Hisar was also allegedly surveyed and videos of the area were shared with handlers across the border. NEW DELHI: More than a year after the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI allegedly plotted attacks on a historic temple in Delhi, a popular dhaba on the Delhi-Sonipat highway and a military camp in Haryana through operatives linked to the Shahzad Bhatti module, sources said on Friday.The alleged conspiracy surfaced during the interrogation of nine suspected operatives of the module, arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell under its ‘Gang Bust Operation 2.0’ from multiple states.According to news agency PTI sources, investigators found that one of the accused had conducted reconnaissance of a historic temple in Delhi and shared photographs of the premises with Pakistan-based handlers through social media platforms.The module had allegedly planned to target police and paramilitary personnel deployed at the temple and open fire to trigger panic and disruption, a source said.The source further said the accused were also assigned the task of carrying out a grenade attack at a popular dhaba on the Delhi-Sonipat highway, frequented daily by thousands of people, with the intention of causing large-scale damage and casualties.”A military camp in Hisar was also allegedly surveyed and videos of the area were shared with handlers across the border. (Image credits: Unicef) NEW DELHI: In a move that could change how maternal and child healthcare is delivered, the Centre has launched a new digital platform—JANANI (Journey of Antenatal, Natal and Neonatal Integrated Care)—to track pregnancies, deliveries and newborn care across the country.A key feature is a QR-based digital mother and child health card, which allows doctors to access medical records instantly—even if the patient moves to another state. This is expected to help migrant families, who often lose continuity of care.The platform, developed as an upgraded version of the government’s Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal—which tracks pregnancies, deliveries and child health—creates a longitudinal digital health record for every woman during her reproductive years, covering the full cycle from pregnancy and delivery to postnatal and newborn care, along with family planning.Unlike the earlier RCH system, JANANI offers real-time tracking, QR-based digital records and integration with other health programmes, allowing continuous monitoring and timely intervention.Dr. Rahul Manchanda, Hon. Senior Consultant (Endoscopic Gynecology), PSRI Hospital said that “This can improve key indicators such as maternal and neonatal mortality rates. A major benefit is portability of digital health records, especially for migrant populations, allowing continuity of care across states and cities. At the same time, strong safeguards must be in place to protect patient data and ensure records are accessed only by authorised personnel. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act should also incorporate robust protections for such healthcare platforms.”Officials said JANANI will help ensure that pregnant women and newborns do not miss critical check-ups, vaccinations or follow-ups. The system generates alerts and reminders, and also provides real-time dashboards for monitoring and targeted interventions.It can flag high-risk pregnancies early, allowing doctors to intervene in time and reduce complications.The platform also integrates with other national programmes such as U-WIN, which tracks immunisation, and POSHAN, which focuses on nutrition and child health, improving coordination across services. Mega movie star Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as a formidable force in Tamil Nadu, disrupting the decades-long dominance of the DMK and AIADMK with a sweeping cinematic wave. However, the road to power remains uncertain, as the party fell short of proving a clear majority before governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.“Thalapathy” Vijay’s TVK, which outperformed both the DMK and AIADMK, won 108 seats in the 234-member assembly to emerge as the strongest. Yet, the party remained 10 seats short of the majority mark of 118, leaving government formation hanging in balance.The disruption has reshaped Tamil Nadu’s traditional political field, even triggering an unlikely thaw between arch-rivals DMK and AIADMK. Meanwhile, sources said TVK boss Vijay is considering a mass resignation of all 108 party MLAs if either the DMK or AIADMK attempts to form the government.Govt seeks proof of majority from VijayTamil Nadu governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Thursday invited Vijay to Lok Bhavan and told him that the requisite majority support in the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly, essential for forming the government, had not yet been established.According to ANI sources, the governor sought clarity on the “magic number” required for government formation and asked Vijay to furnish details of legislators backing Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 234-member Assembly with 108 seats, while the DMK secured 59 and the AIADMK won 47. With Congress firmly backing TVK with its five MLAs, the alliance’s tally stands at 113. We also spoke in detail about the prevailing political scenario,” said Thirumavalavan, noting that discussions continued regarding TVK leader Vijay’s invitation to VCK and other parties.He added, “We have received communication expressing their wish to form the govt along with VCK. He (Vijay) has also spoken to me. We are considering that. But we have to see many other factors before arriving at a decision. We cannot rush as the party has certain procedures,” he said.“TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the poll. So, the governor must give adequate time to TVK to prove its majority on the floor of the House,” said Veerapandian.
