NEW DELHI: Under the National Quantum Mission, the Union govt has given approval for establishing quantum teaching facilities or laboratories in 23 academic institutions across India, and 100 more are under consideration to support advanced research and training in emerging quantum technologies.This was disclosed during a joint monthly meeting of secretaries of science ministries and departments led by science and technology, space and atomic energy minister Jitendra Singh. The meeting reviewed major scientific programmes, upcoming national events and efforts to strengthen coordination among different science ministries. A large technology exhibition is proposed to be organised in New Delhi from May 11 to 13, where national research organisations and startups supported by scientific ministries will demonstrate their innovations. The event is expected to bring together over 3,000 stakeholders and showcase more than 500 technologies and innovations across thematic sectors, providing a platform for industry engagement and technology commercialisation.The meeting also discussed the revision of manpower guidelines for project staff engaged in scientific research programmes. New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi met NSAs and senior security officials from BRICS nations on Tuesday, highlighting the group’s enhanced role in tackling today’s global security challenges.During the interaction, PM Modi said BRICS is a key platform for strengthening security cooperation at a time of rapid global change. He called on member nations — Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE — to boost collaboration and tackle shared vulnerabilities. In a post on X, the PM reiterated India’s commitment to its chairmanship agenda, which focuses on “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.“In a changing global landscape, BRICS has a vital role in deepening security cooperation and addressing shared challenges, from terrorism and cybersecurity to emerging technologies. India’s chairmanship will seek to advance practical cooperation, support the priorities of the Global South and contribute to a safer, more secure and inclusive world,” Modi posted.In his televised opening remarks at BRICS NSAs’ meeting, NSA Ajit Doval, speaking about the impact of “geopolitical uncertainties and economic strains”, underlined the need for the grouping to play a more significant role in addressing the challenges. Hailing BRICS as a “very special coalition”, Doval expressed elation over its growth.He welcomed the US-Iran MoU on ending hostilities in West Asia, saying it will stabilise global energy security. “The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a very welcome development. It will remove supply chain bottlenecks and (address) shortages in sectors like fertilisers and chemicals,” he said.“We are meeting at a very tumultuous time. The world is facing geopolitical uncertainties, economic strains, and disruptive technology. Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York (File photo) NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday strongly objected to Pakistan raising the Kashmir issue at a United Nations forum, accusing Islamabad of politicising the platform.The remarks were made by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, in response to comments by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad. Pakistan had raised the Kashmir issue during the proceedings, a subject it frequently brings up at international forums.Responding to Pakistan’s intervention, Harish criticised the conduct of the co-chair and reiterated India’s long-standing position on Jammu and Kashmir.”I also refer to the unwarranted remarks made by the representative of Pakistan. It is incredible that a co-chair expected to be balanced and unbiased in conduct has chosen to politicize this forum. I would only like to stress for brevity of time that the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter strictly internal to India, it has always been is and will remain so,” Harish said.The Indian envoy also spoke about the ongoing review of UN mandates under the UN-80 framework, which aims to improve efficiency across the organisation.”…India would like to emphasize that at a time when member states are undertaking mandate implementation review under the UN-80 framework, for all UN General Assembly mandates in order to achieve efficiencies. New Delhi: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday deplored the “betrayal by teachers entrusted with safeguarding NEET-UG”, saying individuals responsible for protecting the examination had “instead compromised its integrity.” He also accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of scaring aspirants and seeking to “create anarchy”, while terming the CJP a “proxy” of disruptive forces.In his first detailed remarks since Sunday’s re-examination was conducted without any reported leak, Pradhan told TOI that NTA had assigned teachers sensitive responsibilities, “but some failed to honour the trust placed in them.” He described their alleged involvement in the breach of trust that undermined the May 3 examination and ultimately forced its cancellation.Mounting a political counterattack, Pradhan accused Rahul of indulging in “low-level politics” at a time when more than 22 lakh medical aspirants were preparing for the retest. He alleged that the Congress MP had attempted to unsettle students and derail their preparations instead of offering constructive suggestions to improve the system.The comments assume significance amid demands for Pradhan’s resignation from opposition parties and sections of youth following the paper leak and wider concerns over the examination system.He also targeted the Cockroach Janta Party, describing it as “a proxy for forces seeking to disrupt the system”. He alleged that people rejected through democratic process had returned under a different banner to target institutions. He further accused the group of raising slogans favouring forces seeking to divide the country.The remarks constitute Pradhan’s strongest response yet to the campaign seeking his removal.
