Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has invited startups and innovators to collaborate with the government through ‘Rail Tech Portal’ to solve difficult problems with technology within the Indian Railways. Speaking at the DNPA Conclave on Thursday, the Minister described the portal as the primary “digital way of accepting solutions.” He encouraged anyone with an interest in problem-solving to contribute to the platform. We will be very happy to consider it as a part of the Rail Tech Portal.”The minister also explained that the initiative is built upon a specific vision of inclusive innovation to drive national achievement.”The vision of the Prime Minister at the beginning of this Rail Tech Portal is when science meets scale, when innovation becomes inclusive, when technology drives transformation, the foundation of great achievement. So, with this vision, this Rail Tech Portal will move forward”In the same event, Vaishnaw also spoke on the responsibilities of tech platforms with regard to the internet and the rights of the content creators.The minister stated that platforms must wake up to their role in protecting society.”I will request that platforms must wake up, must understand the importance of reinforcing trust in the institutions which human society has created over thousands of years. Platforms must take the responsibility for the content that is hosted by them,” he said.”The online safety of children, the online safety of all citizens, is the responsibility of the platforms. Non-adherence to these principles will definitely make them responsible because the nature ofthe Internet has changed now,” he added.Talking about the fair revenue system for the content creators, Vaishnaw said, “I will request all the platforms to rethink their revenue-sharing policies because that is also one of the major concerns that the entire society today is raising. The government condemned a US attack on a commercial vessel off the coast of Oman on Wednesday that left 3 Indian crew members missing, while also officially lodging a protest with the US embassy here. There were 24 Indian seafarers onboard the Palau-flagged Settebello, which was struck by precision munitions while transiting the Gulf of Oman, out of which 21 have been rescued.It is learnt that the Ministry of External affairs (MEA) additional secretary (Americas) Nagaraj Naidu summoned US charge d’affaires Jason Meeks and delivered a formal demarche protesting what was the second attack in the past few days by US forces on a shipping vessel with many Indian crew members on board.Unlike the ship that was targeted earlier, Settebello is not blacklisted by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control, a point that Naidu made in the extended meeting that started at 8.45 pm and lasted for almost 25 minutes. India had not condemned the first attack. The Indian official sought an end to the targeting of commercial shipping, underscoring India’s point that lives of seafarers are important.India had in April summoned Iranian ambassador Mohammad Fathali to protest an attack on Indian tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. On the missing Indians, the Indian embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with the Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation, said the ministry.The attack took place days after another US “disabling” of another Palau-flagged vessel with 24 Indians onboard. All of them were rescued with help from Oman authorities. The sanctioned vessel was trying to evade the US blockade when it was hit. The US had imposed the blockade on April 13, in response to Iranian restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that a US aircraft fired precision munitions into the ship’s engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces. “CENTCOM forces have disabled eight non-compliant vessels, redirected 134 ships that complied, and allowed 42 vessels supporting humanitarian aid to pass since initiating the blockade on April 13,” it said in a statement.The ship that was targeted on Wednesday was a chemical/oil products tanker which reported an engine room fire 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman’s port of Sohar, said the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency, according to a Reuters report. The government condemned a US attack on a commercial vessel off the coast of Oman on Wednesday that left 3 Indian crew members missing, while also officially lodging a protest with the US embassy here. There were 24 Indian seafarers onboard the Palau-flagged Settebello, which was struck by precision munitions while transiting the Gulf of Oman, out of which 21 have been rescued.It is learnt that the Ministry of External affairs (MEA) additional secretary (Americas) Nagaraj Naidu summoned US charge d’affaires Jason Meeks and delivered a formal demarche protesting what was the second attack in the past few days by US forces on a shipping vessel with many Indian crew members on board.Unlike the ship that was targeted earlier, Settebello is not blacklisted by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control, a point that Naidu made in the extended meeting that started at 8.45 pm and lasted for almost 25 minutes. India had not condemned the first attack. The Indian official sought an end to the targeting of commercial shipping, underscoring India’s point that lives of seafarers are important.India had in April summoned Iranian ambassador Mohammad Fathali to protest an attack on Indian tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. They were declared dead on arrival, Srinagar-based Army spokesperson Lt Col Manoj Sahu said.He didn’t elaborate beyond saying that the explosion occurred in the Kamalkote area of the Uri sector. Till late in the evening, there was no official statement from the Army disclosing the circumstances of the blast.Elsewhere in J&K, state police and CAPF companies carried out a comprehensive joint mock drill in Pahalgam in preparation for the Amarnath Yatra starting July 3. The UT govt has already declared the Pahalgam and Baltal yatra routes a “no-fly zone” from July 1 till the pilgrimage concludes.
