NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled a 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram at Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Goa during the ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava’, marking the 550th year of the Math. He also inaugurated the Ramayana Theme Park Garden developed on the premises, released a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin, and addressed the gathering.Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited Udupi in Karnataka where he offered prayers at Sri Krishna Matha and joined the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana, a mass recitation of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita by around 100,000 participants including students, monks and scholars.He also inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha for the Kanakana Kindi, a window revered as the site where saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had darshan of Bhagwan Krishna.Sri Krishna Matha, established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhvacharya, is one of the central institutions of the Dvaita Vedanta tradition.
