More than a year after Saif Ali Khan was attacked inside his Bandra residence, the case has reached another significant stage. A Sessions Court has reportedly framed charges against Shariful Fakir, the accused in the stabbing case, raising the possibility that the trial could commence shortly.According to a report by Free Press Journal, Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, is accused of allegedly entering Saif’s residence with the intention of committing robbery. During the court proceedings, he reportedly told the judge that he had not been provided with a copy of the chargesheet and other relevant documents. Following his submission, the court directed the prosecution to ensure the accused receives the necessary case paperwork.

Police allege accused entered home through bathroom

As per the police case, Fakir allegedly gained entry into Saif’s Bandra residence through a bathroom while attempting to commit robbery. Investigators have claimed that he did not initially realise whose house he had entered.The accused allegedly confronted the household staff and threatened them with a knife while demanding money. The complaint states that when a nanny tried to prevent him from entering the bathroom attached to Saif’s younger son Jehangir’s room, she was allegedly attacked with a knife. Fakir is also accused of demanding Rs 1 crore during the confrontation.

Saif Ali Khan underwent emergency surgery after the attack

Saif reportedly intervened after waking up and attempting to protect his family. During the altercation, he sustained multiple injuries, including a stab wound. The actor was subsequently taken to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He remained hospitalised for five days before being discharged. Fakir was arrested on January 19, 2025, after allegedly fleeing the residence following the confrontation. His lawyers have challenged the circumstances surrounding his arrest, claiming that police did not inform him of the reason for taking him into custody. They have also argued that the arrest was unlawful. The accused’s bail plea is yet to be heard by the Sessions Court.

Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming project

Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan is preparing for his next release, ‘Haiwaan’. The film marks his reunion with Akshay Kumar after 18 years. The two actors previously shared screen space in ‘Tashan’, which released in 2008. Directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Haiwaan’ features Saif as a visually impaired character and is described as a thriller driven by suspense, intense conflict and high-stakes drama. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on September 11, 2026.
