Seafarer was airlifted to safety off the Gujarat coast NEW DELHI: A seafarer was airlifted to safety off the Gujarat coast after the Indian Coast Guard carried out a difficult medical evacuation despite rough seas and adverse weather.In a post on X, Indian Coast Guard said that it “successfully executed a MEDEVAC of a 21-year-old seafarer from MT Murlikisan off Porbandar on 26 July 2026. With a swift response from MRCC Mumbai, CGDHQ-1 Porbandar swung into action, providing immediate telemedical assistance while deploying surface and air assets. The patient was airlifted using an ICG Advanced Light Helicopter to Porbandar, medically stabilised by ICG doctors, and shifted to Hospital for further treatment.”The seafarer was reported to be suffering from acute chest pain and a high fever, requiring urgent medical attention.The helicopter successfully winched the patient from the vessel and transported him to the Coast Guard Air Enclave, where an Indian Coast Guard medical officer provided initial stabilisation.
