Bankipur bypoll: Prashant Kishor declares Rs 96 crore assets; wife owns Rs 101.93 crore NEW DELHI: Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has filed his nomination for the Bankipur assembly bypoll in Bihar, declaring movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 96 crore, according to his election affidavit.The poll strategist-turned-politician, popularly known as PK, is contesting from the BJP stronghold that fell vacant after the resignation of the party’s national president Nitin Nabin. Kishor filed his nomination papers after leading a padyatra in Patna, on Monday.According to the affidavit, Kishor has total assets worth over Rs 96 crore, including movable assets of Rs 22.19 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 73.87 crore. His wife has total declared assets of Rs 101.93 crore, comprising movable assets worth Rs 89.51 crore and immovable assets valued at Rs 12.42 crore. The affidavit also states that Kishor has Rs 65,570 in cash, while his wife has Rs 1,95,200 in cash.It further reveals that Kishor holds a 100% controlling stake in a private company, which donated Rs 85 crore to the Jan Suraaj Party and Rs 50 lakh to the Jan Suraaj Foundation during the 2024-25 financial year.As per the nomination papers, Kishor has eight pending criminal cases against him. However, the affidavit states that he has not been convicted in any criminal case.From public health to politicsBorn in Konar village in Rohtas district, Kishor completed his schooling in Buxar. His father, Shrikant Pandey, is a physician, while his mother, Sushila Pandey, is a homemaker. Before entering politics, Kishor worked on United Nations-funded public health programmes until 2011.He entered political consulting during the 2012 Gujarat assembly elections and later co-founded Citizens for Accountable Governance (CAG) in 2013 to support Narendra Modi’s campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.Kishor is credited with campaign initiatives such as “Chai Pe Charcha”, 3D rallies, Run for Unity, and Manthan, alongside extensive social media outreach during the BJP’s successful 2014 general election campaign.The Bankipur assembly bypoll will be held on July 30, while the counting of votes is scheduled for August 3.Get the latest India news and live updates. Rather than addressing the legitimate grievances of the local population, the Pakistani state has responded with excessive police brutality… We expect and hope that the international community will hold Pakistan fully accountable for these egregious abuses and misdeeds.”India has consistently maintained that Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and has repeatedly accused Pakistan of human rights violations and suppressing the rights of people living in the region.Besides the protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the MEA also responded to developments in West Asia.The MEA said it is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia and called for safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz after attacks on commercial vessels in the region.Randhir Jaiswal said India was deeply concerned over the attacks on two ships in which one Indian seafarer was killed.”We are closely following the developments in West Asia. We continue to call for safe and unimpeded navigation and the flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz. This is key for ensuring the economic and energy security of people across the world,” he said.Government sources quoted by news agency ANI later said 13 Indians have been killed and three are missing in the Gulf region since February 28, 2026.On reports that former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina plans to return to Bangladesh later this year, Jaiswal said, “Regarding the statement or interview given by the former Bangladesh Prime Minister, there has been no change in our approach to this matter…Any extradition matter is a legal issue, and it will be dealt with accordingly.”Responding to a question on fugitive businessman Nirav Modi, he said, “… Legal proceedings in the matter are on. Once those legal proceedings are completed, then he will be extradited to India.”On the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) statement linking the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Jaiswal said, “We have noted the remarks made by the RCMP (The Royal Canadian Mounted Police) Deputy Commissioner. These remarks are consistent with the recently unsealed US indictment, which attributes responsibility to the members of the Lawrence Bishnoi organised crime group. SC refuses interim stay on CBSE’s three-language policy NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to stay the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) three-language policy for the 2026-27 academic session, observing that ‘learning a language never goes waste’, while agreeing to hear petitions challenging the policy in detail next week.A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana issued notice on fresh petitions and scheduled the matter for hearing on Wednesday next week. The court, however, refused to grant any interim stay on the CBSE circulars at this stage.The petitions challenge the CBSE’s decision to implement the revised three-language policy from the current academic year. The petitioners argued that students studying in Class 9 would now have to study two Indian languages, forcing many to drop languages they had been learning since Class 5. They also raised concerns over English being treated as a non-native language under the policy, besides pointing to the lack of teachers and textbooks for several Indian languages.Appearing for one of the petitioners, senior advocate Anand Grover argued that the CBSE lacked the legal authority to issue such circulars.”The circulars are without authority of law. SC refuses interim stay on CBSE’s three-language policy NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to stay the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) three-language policy for the 2026-27 academic session, observing that ‘learning a language never goes waste’, while agreeing to hear petitions challenging the policy in detail next week.A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana issued notice on fresh petitions and scheduled the matter for hearing on Wednesday next week. The court, however, refused to grant any interim stay on the CBSE circulars at this stage.The petitions challenge the CBSE’s decision to implement the revised three-language policy from the current academic year. The petitioners argued that students studying in Class 9 would now have to study two Indian languages, forcing many to drop languages they had been learning since Class 5. They also raised concerns over English being treated as a non-native language under the policy, besides pointing to the lack of teachers and textbooks for several Indian languages.Appearing for one of the petitioners, senior advocate Anand Grover argued that the CBSE lacked the legal authority to issue such circulars.”The circulars are without authority of law.
