Ram Temple (TNN) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations of embezzlement of funds at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has instructed trust and temple functionaries not to leave the city as the investigation enters a crucial phase.The directive was issued before the three-member SIT departed for Lucknow on Sunday, PTI reported.The Uttar Pradesh government constituted the SIT on June 13.The three-member panel comprises Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, Inspector General of Police Kiran S, and Finance Department Special Secretary Neel Ratan.Discrepancies found in donations recordsSources associated with the investigation claimed that one of the SIT’s key findings relates to the documentation and accounting of offerings made by devotees, including gold and silver jewellery, diamonds, and other precious stones.During questioning, several trust office-bearers were allegedly unable to provide satisfactory explanations.Maha Kumbh period under scannerThe SIT is also examining transactions and donation records from the Maha Kumbh Mela period in January and February 2025, when the temple witnessed an unprecedented surge in footfall.Sources claimed that nearly 10 lakh devotees visited the temple daily during the two-month period, with donation boxes reportedly filling up with cash within hours.Investigators are also scrutinising land purchases made by the temple trust in different phases, along with the procurement of construction materials used for the temple project.Get the latest India news and live updates. AI is not intended to replace doctors but to multiply specialist capacity by assisting in diagnosis NEW DELHI: India’s healthcare system is coming under growing pressure from an ageing population, rising burden of chronic diseases and shortages of doctors, nurses and hospital beds, according to a knowledge paper released by Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Saturday. The report says artificial intelligence (AI) can help bridge this widening gap by extending specialist expertise, improving diagnosis and expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly in smaller hospitals and underserved areas.Nadda released the knowledge paper, “AI in MedTech: Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Artificial Intelligence,” at the 9th edition of India Medical Device 2026, organised by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in association with FICCI.The report estimates India’s population at 1.47 billion in 2026 and says more than 65% of deaths are now due to non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. It projects the population aged 60 years and above to cross 230 million by 2036, further increasing demand for long-term healthcare.Despite expansion in healthcare infrastructure and medical education, shortages persist. India has 9.6 doctors per 10,000 population, compared with the global average of 18.3. It has 27.2 nursing personnel per 10,000 against 40.5 globally, 15.9 hospital beds per 10,000 compared with 33, and only 4 MRI scanners per million people, against the global average of 19, the report says.According to the report, AI is not intended to replace doctors but to multiply specialist capacity by assisting in diagnosis, clinical decision-making and screening. NIA has arrested another key accused in connection with the seizure of a large consignment of illegal explosives in Kerala’s Malappuram district. NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another accused in connection with the seizure of a large consignment of illegal explosives in Kerala’s Malappuram district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 10, officials said on Sunday.The accused, identified as Haris TA, was arrested on Saturday from Manjeri in Malappuram. According to the NIA, Haris is a main conspirator and was involved in the illegal procurement of the explosives seized in the case.The case relates to the seizure of 89,600 explosive sticks and 10,500 shock tubes (NONEL) from a lorry parked at the compound of Farha Hollow Bricks Company on the Chemmad-Thalappara Road in Malappuram on February 7, 2026.The lorry was intercepted by Kerala Police, who arrested three people linked to the consignment. The NIA said the accused did not have the required licences or permissions to possess or transport the explosives.The agency subsequently re-registered the case and took over the investigation in April 2026.
