Bengal rejects this,” O’Brien wrote on X.The row comes days after the West Bengal government assigned the responsibility of preparing and serving cooked mid-day meals in schools under the Kolkata municipal corporation area to ISKCON.Amid growing speculation, ISKCON Kolkata vice president Radharaman Das issued a clarification, saying no menu had been approved and that reports circulating online were inaccurate.”It has come to my notice that some people are sharing the following proposed menu for the midday meal in Kolkata. However, I would like to clarify that no such menu has been finalized, and this list has not been issued by us. Once the menu is finalised, we will make an official announcement. Kindly refrain from sharing this incorrect information,” Das said in a post on X.The reports had fuelled concerns that eggs, a regular source of protein in school meals for many students, could be removed from the menu. However, no official proposal has been announced by ISKCON or the authorities concerned.The debate has unfolded in the context of the Centre’s PM POSHAN scheme, which was launched in 2024 by the Ministry of Education as the successor to the National Programme for Mid-Day Meal in Schools. DMK slams Vijay govt over arrest attempt of Gen Z leader NEW DELHI: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi on Wednesday strongly condemned the Vijay-led government’s “attempt to arrest its Gen Z wing coordinator, Anbananthan Ariyappan, during a late-night operation at his residence.”The actions of the police under the TVK government, who allegedly entered a house in the middle of the night and attempted to arrest Mr. Anbananthan Ariyappan, the Gen Z wing coordinator of the DMK, are condemnable,” she said in a post on X.The opposition party leader further alleged that the government was targeting young people who raise questions against those in power. It warned that attempts to silence critics would be met with resistance from Tamil Nadu’s youth. “The TVK government may believe it can suppress and silence young people who question it, but the youth of Tamil Nadu will soon give an appropriate response,” she added.The allegations come a day after a heated confrontation between the ruling TVK and the opposition DMK in the Tamil Nadu assembly.On Tuesday, chief minister Vijay launched a sharp attack on DMK, alleging that during its previous tenure in power, funds from various government departments were diverted into what he termed “party funds.” He further claimed that the previous DMK government had “siphoned” public money, drawing strong objections from opposition members.Leader of opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin immediately protested the remarks and demanded that the chief minister substantiate the allegations with evidence rather than make what he described as baseless accusations. MEA NEW DELHI: Govt on Tuesday trashed Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif’s remarks threatening war against India over suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, describing them as a desperate attempt by Islamabad to divert attention from its own failings and human rights record. “We have seen some reports on the matter. Such remarks are desperate attempts by Pakistan to cover up its own failings and deflect attention away from its human rights abuses,” ministry of external affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. “We categorically reject these fabricated claims.”Jaiswal said ongoing protests in PoK stem from Pakistan’s “systemic economic exploitation, denial of fundamental rights, and administrative oppression” in the region. New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi met NSAs and senior security officials from BRICS nations on Tuesday, highlighting the group’s enhanced role in tackling today’s global security challenges.During the interaction, PM Modi said BRICS is a key platform for strengthening security cooperation at a time of rapid global change. He called on member nations — Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE — to boost collaboration and tackle shared vulnerabilities. In a post on X, the PM reiterated India’s commitment to its chairmanship agenda, which focuses on “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.“In a changing global landscape, BRICS has a vital role in deepening security cooperation and addressing shared challenges, from terrorism and cybersecurity to emerging technologies. India’s chairmanship will seek to advance practical cooperation, support the priorities of the Global South and contribute to a safer, more secure and inclusive world,” Modi posted.In his televised opening remarks at BRICS NSAs’ meeting, NSA Ajit Doval, speaking about the impact of “geopolitical uncertainties and economic strains”, underlined the need for the grouping to play a more significant role in addressing the challenges. Hailing BRICS as a “very special coalition”, Doval expressed elation over its growth.He welcomed the US-Iran MoU on ending hostilities in West Asia, saying it will stabilise global energy security. “The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a very welcome development. It will remove supply chain bottlenecks and (address) shortages in sectors like fertilisers and chemicals,” he said.“We are meeting at a very tumultuous time. The world is facing geopolitical uncertainties, economic strains, and disruptive technology.
