8 killed, 13 injured as lorry rams tanker in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool; PM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia
KURNOOL: At least eight people were killed and 13 others injured after a lorry collided with a tanker near Chilakaladona in Mantralayam mandal of Kurnool district on Thursday, police said. According to Kurnool police officials, the victims have been identified as pilgrims from Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru region. The injured were rushed to Emmiganur government hospital for treatment.Reacting to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh is deeply painful. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs 50,000 for those injured.(With agency inputs)
