NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab on Thursday announced that it will launch a full-scale offensive against gangsters, modelled on its ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ anti-drug campaign. The announcement was made by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann while meeting newly elected zila parishad and block samiti members.Kejriwal said all gangster networks in the state would be “eliminated” after the anti-drug drive. Citing AAP’s victory on over 70% seats in recent panchayat polls as a mandate for clean politics, he said the elections were the cleanest in Punjab’s history. Mann added that “pro-people governance” had forced traditional parties to rewrite their manifestos.Kejriwal contrasted the polls with past elections marked by booth-capturing, coercion and “gundagardi”, noting that this time over 600 seats saw margins under 100 votes, more than 350 of which were won by the opposition, including some by a single vote. He argued AAP did not misuse power or indulge in coercion, calling it a party of “ordinary and decent people” and noting that most newly elected members, like him and Mann, come from non-political families. On the drug crackdown, Kejriwal credited the government’s “political will and courage”. Mann attacked the Congress and Akalis as parties without agendas. Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said the mandate showed public trust in the government’s pro-people and development-oriented policies.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosFrance Ditches Global South, Collective West As Jaishankar Warns Europe Of Changing World Order’Naughty, Nasty HM’: Mamata Slams Amit Shah After ED Raids TMC Leader Amid SIR RowPM Modi Launches ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, Recalls Centuries-Old Resolve Behind Temple’s Revival“US Using Tariffs To Pressure India” Sareen Slams Trump Over Russia Sanction BillDonald Trump Pulls US Out Of India-Led Solar Alliance In Sweeping Exit From 66 Global AgenciesNew CCTV Footage Raises Questions Over Planning Behind Turkman Gate Clashes During Midnight DriveMinor Shooter Accuses National Coach Of Sexual Assault, NRAI Suspends Him Pending Police Inquiry’Agar Himmat Hay Toh…’: Mamata Banerjee Explodes After ED Raids I-PAC, Challenges HM Amit ShahPre-Poll Shock In Bengal As ED Raids I-PAC Office, CM Mamata Calls It Political Targeting By CentreCuban Ambassador Backs India’s ‘Dialogue’ Stance on Venezuela, Slams US’ ‘Military Aggression’123Photostories10 smart and comforting sooji dishes to enjoy for breakfastExclusive: Viraj Bahl on the public admiration he’s been getting due to Shark Tank India; says ‘I still feel embarrassed when people ask me for selfies’‘Toxic’: Kiara Advani, Nayanthara to Rukmini Vasanth: Meet the leading ladies of Yash’s highly anticipated comeback filmHow to make comforting Gajar Matar Ki Sabzi at home10 most democratic countries in the world12 banana desserts enjoyed around the world’The Office’ to ‘Modern Family’: Best sitcoms to watch on PeacockCute Indian pet names for babies born in January 2026Mrunal Thakur to Shraddha Kapoor: 5 times Bollywood actresses stole the show in Paithani sareesHow to make Classic Bengali Fish Curry for dinner at home123Hot PicksMinneapolis Woman ShootMaharashtra civic pollsGold rate todayUAE citizenshipCigarette price hikePublic holidays January 2026Bank Holidays JanuaryTop TrendingHaydn Fleury Net WorthTommy Fleetwood and Clare Fleetwood Net WorthTravis KelceUS Strike VenezuelaTilak VarmaMaharashtra Civic PollsAnkush BhardwajGratuity calculationDelhi Demolition MosqueCandace Owens

Three Indians were among the crew members on board the Russia-flagged oil tanker seized by the US, as reported by Russia Today. The report shared accounts of crew members stating the crew consisted of 3 Indian citizens, 17 Ukrainian citizens, 6 Georgian citizens, and 2 Russian citizens. In response to Washington’s allegations of the oil tanker “violating the US sanctions,” the report stated that ‘Marinera’ received legal permission to sail under the Russian flag on December 24, which was fully in line with international law.“The Marinera crew consists of 17 Ukrainian citizens, six Georgian citizens, three Indian citizens and two Russian citizens,” Russia Today said, quoting sources. It also said that the detained vessel was chartered under the flag of Guyana. On December 24, 2025, the ship received a temporary permit to sail under the Russian flag.Moscow, on Thursday, also asked Washington to comply with the international laws on freedom of maritime navigation. The Russian foreign ministry also stated that information about ‘Marinera’, formerly known as Bella 1, was seized on Wednesday, was repeatedly conveyed to the United States.”We call on Washington to resume compliance with the fundamental norms and principles of international maritime navigation and immediately cease its illegal actions against the Marinera tanker and other vessels engaged in law-abiding activities on the high seas,” news agency PTI reported, quoting the Russian foreign ministry.Moscow also demanded humane treatment of the crew members in its statement. ““We reiterate our demand that the US ensure humane and dignified treatment of the Russian citizens comprising the tanker’s crew, strictly observe their rights and interests, and make no obstacles to their prompt return to their homeland,” it said.Russia also claimed that the US was wrongly citing its own sanction laws.”The statements by some US officials that the seizure of the Marinera is part of a broader strategy to establish Washington’s unlimited control over Venezuela’s natural resources are extremely cynical. We strongly reject such neo-colonialist tendencies,” the Russian foreign ministry stated.”Unilateral restrictive measures by the US, as well as other Western countries, are illegitimate and cannot justify attempts to establish jurisdiction and, even more so, to seize ships on the high seas,” it added.Russia asserted that the US boarded and seized a Russian civilian vessel without consent. It reinstated its formal protest on the matter and argued that the US actions constitute a serious violation of international maritime law and freedom of navigation.”Russia did not give consent to these actions. On the contrary, it lodged an official protest with the US government regarding the pursuit of the Marinera by a US Coast Guard vessel over the past several weeks, insisting on the immediate cessation of these activities and the withdrawal of the unlawful demands made on the Russian ship’s captain,” the ministry said.On Wednesday, US forces seized the Russian-flagged oil tanker Marinera in the North Atlantic. The US claimed the vessel was a part of a “shadow fleet” carrying sanctioned oil and had fled a US blockade near Venezuela. The US forces, despite the presence of a Russian submarine escort, boarded the ship after the operation was authorised by a federal warrant for sanctions violations.
