NEW DELHI: BJP Monday blamed Left-affiliated student organisations, such as All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Students’ Federation of India (SFI), besides organised groups for protests and violence during Cockroach Janata Party’s march to Parliament.Similar allegations of organised instigation and crowd mobilisation were made in connection with the Delhi riots, and several individuals continue to face legal proceedings in those cases, BJP said. The violence did not appear spontaneous and there were organised groups that initiated it, after which sections of the crowd followed, it alleged.In a hard-hitting statement, BJP functionary Amit Malviya said that the “stone-pelting and orchestrated violence” carried out in the name of students raise serious questions about the intent of the protestors and those backing them.“Even more telling was the conspicuous absence of many of the prominent faces associated with the protest from the march itself, leaving those who had been mobilised at the behest of their political patrons to face the consequences,” he asked. The investigation will establish criminal responsibility, Malviya said.“The real conspirators are often those who plan, encourage and coordinate such violence while carefully keeping themselves out of harm’s way. They move on to the next agitation, leaving those they mobilised to bear the legal consequences.”CJP had been holding protest at Jantar Mantar since last month and has drawn support from opposition parties over its demand for the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan for paper leaks.Get the latest India News and Live updates. NEW DELHI: The first day of Parliament’s monsoon session was a washout as opposition parties protested over a host of issues, including theft of donations at Ayodhya Ram temple and NEET paper leak, leading to frequent adjournments in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha before proceedings were called off for the day.Amid the brief moments for which LS sat between several adjournments, law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced a bill to replace an ordinance, which has increased the number of Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38, including the Chief Justice of India.In RS, leader of the opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of NEET paper leak, which he called a scam, affecting the future of lakhs of students. “Today thousands of students have gathered at Jantar Mantar. There has been a lathi charge, and govt is trying to stifle dissent,” drawing protests from treasury benches and prompting Chairman C P Radhakrishnan to adjourn the House for half an hour.The protests, however, could not obscure the changed arithmetic. With rebel TMC MPs in LS being allotted different seats after their entry in the BJP-led NDA, what stood out was the front-row seat given to their head Sudip Bandyopadhyay. He occupied the seat of TMC parliamentary party leader Abhishek Banerjee, who now commands a group of eight MPs from earlier 28 and no longer has a front seat.It could have been the distinguishing feature of the opening day but for the protests, which continued in the two Houses. Govt informed Parliament there was no proposal to make lower-blended fuel or pure petrol available at select retail outlets. NEW DELHI: To address the grievance of accused facing long years of incarceration in UAPA and NDPS cases, SC Monday pushed for the establishment of additional exclusive special courts to speed up trials in NIA-investigated cases and those related to narcotic drugs registered by various police organisations.Additional solicitor general Aishwarya Bhati informed a bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana that 14 additional exclusive NIA special courts have been designated in nine states following a series of SC orders and reminders by the Centre. The courts include three each in Gujarat and Jharkhand, two in Maharashtra and one each in J&K, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Assam and Punjab.The bench, however, expressed concern over only one NIA court in J&K handling 47 cases and asked the Union govt to consider establishing more special courts for expeditious completion of trials. Delhi is also in the process of designating three exclusive NIA courts to speed up hearings in 50 pending cases.On NDPS cases, the Centre informed the court that exclusive special courts across the country have increased from 77 to 113, but 394 are required based on inputs from states and UTs. West Bengal and Haryana accounted for 13 each among the 36 newly added courts.Govt said states and UTs have committed to establishing the remaining NDPS courts expeditiously in coordination with high courts. JAMMU: Flash floods and landslides fuelled by torrential rain drove the death toll across J&K’s Jammu division to 28 after a house collapse killed seven people in Poonch and three died in Doda on Monday while rescuers dug four bodies from rubble left by raging streams and collapsing hillsides that ripped through Pir Panjal region on Sunday.CM Omar Abdullah announced an ex gratia of Rs 6 lakh for the next of kin of each victim.Poonch accounted for 23 deaths over two days, including several children, while neighbouring Rajouri reported two fatalities. Surankote in Poonch bore the brunt with 15 deaths after walls of water and mud barrelled down mountain slopes Sunday. Four bodies were found Monday.Fresh casualties were reported from Mandi in Poonch, where heavy rain brought down a “dhok”, a mountain shelter built by nomadic herdsmen. The dead included Tanveer Ahmed, Zahida Begum, Shamim Akhter, Shabnam Bano, M Irfan, 17, Manan Rafiq, 6, and 4-year-old Aleesa.In Doda, falling boulders smashed into a bus on Jammu-Kishtwar national highway near Raggi Nallah around 9.30am during heavy rain. Seven injured passengers were taken to hospital, where Manish Kumar died, while rescuers later found the body of an unidentified man inside the mangled bus. In Kashtigarh, a woman died after a shooting stone crashed through her house.Civil administration, police, Army, SDRF teams and local volunteers continued clawing through mud and stones to pull out victims and move families from vulnerable areas.Soldiers built a makeshift bridge from a tree trunk and belaying rope across a swollen stream in flood-ravaged Dhara Sangla village of Surankote, helping rescuers and grieving families carry a young girl’s body home while restoring a vital link cut by flash floods.Amarnath Yatra and pilgrimages to Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra and Shiv Khori in Reasi remained suspended for a second day. IMD issued a red alert warning of extremely heavy rain over the next three days.Relentless rain also crippled transport.
