The BJP criticized the Congress for awarding the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize to former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, calling it a vindication of their ‘Muslim-Maoist Congress’ DNA assertion. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia cited Bachelet’s past criticisms of India’s actions in Kashmir and the NRC, and Sonia Gandhi’s presence at the award ceremony as evidence of the Congress’s anti-India stance. NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday said the ‘Indira Gandhi Peace Prize’ given by Congress to former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet was a vindication of PM Narendra Modi’s assertion that the opposition party’s DNA had now become ‘Muslim-Maoist Congress.'”People like George Soros and Michelle Bachelet remain involved in anti-India activities at the international level. They attack India’s Constitution and our democratic mandate. Rahul Gandhi was already associated with them, and now Sonia Gandhi is not far behind,” said BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia at a press conference, citing Sonia’s presence when Bachelet was given the award. He called Congress an “army of traitors” days after its parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi presented the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development to Bachelet.Bhatia also slammed Congress for the presence of Jagdish Tytler at the event and asked Sonia if she didn’t feel the pain of the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. BJP’s objection to the awardee stems from her remarks expressing concern over the lockdown in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, among other factors.Bhatia said, “The Congress’ DNA is anti-India. It presented the award to Michelle Bachelet, who attacks India’s sovereignty.” The BJP spokesperson said Bachelet, the former UN Human Rights chief, had disfavoured the abrogation of Article 370, alleging human rights violations in Kashmir, and also raised objections to the implementation of National Register of Citizens in Assam.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosTejas Crash: IAF Pilot Killed In Dubai Crash Identified As Wing Commander Namansh SyalDefence Experts Break Down Possible Causes Behind Tejas Fighter Jet Crash In DubaiPM Modi Gets Rousing Welcome From Indian Diaspora In Johannesburg Ahead Of G20 Summit | South Africa’‘I Am A Hindu’: Shashi Tharoor Evokes Swami Vivekananda To Tell The World What Hinduism Stands ForAmit Shah Says BSF Crushed 118 Pak Posts, He Issues Tough Security Message From Sindoor Van In KutchEx-CIA Reveals Savage Reply To Imran Khan’s PTI After Apology Demand Over His India-Pak War Analysis’All 140 MLAs Are Mine’: DK Shivakumar Amid Karnataka CM Speculation; Siddaramaiah RespondsKabul Turns To India As New Trade Partner Amid Pak Blockades And Push For Fresh Regional CorridorsTejas Crashes In Dubai Air Show Display As Massive Fireball Sparks Panic, Pilot Succumbs To InjuriesDeadly 5.5 Earthquake Rocks Bangladesh, Killing At Least Six, Triggers Widespread Panic Across Dhaka123PhotostoriesCan the 10-3-2-1 rule improve your sleep? Afghanistan is wooing Indian investors with a five-year tax holiday for new industries and a 1% import duty on raw materials and machinery. Commerce Minister Nooruddin Azizi highlighted priority sectors like cement and textiles, urging Indian companies to invest. He also sought India’s help in keeping the Chabahar trade route open amidst logistical challenges. NEW DELHI: Afghanistan will offer a five-year tax exemption for new domestic industries and a 1% import duty on raw materials and machinery, Afghan commerce minister Nooruddin Azizi said on Friday, while vowing to deepen economic ties with India. He identified cement, rice, textiles, pharmaceuticals, mining, and energy as priority sectors for a country that has been in the griup of strife for years. “To support domestic industry, we are giving a preferential 1% tariff on raw materials and machinery and a five-year tax exemption for new industries that are set up in Afghanistan,” Azizi said at a PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) event in Delhi and stated that Afghanistan created a “flexible and enabling” business environment and wanted Indian companies to invest in large numbers across sectors. On production incentives, he said “We have economic oriented policies…So if the production increases by 20% we increase govt support, which would keep on increasing as production increases.”At the event as well, joint secretary in the ministry of external affaris M Prakash Anand said that both sides agreed to post trade attaches in their embassies to boost trade and revive the joint working groups on trade, commerce, and investment. He also mentioned that air corridors on the Kabul to Delhi and Kabul to Amritsar routes were activated and cargo flights on these sectors would start soon. Azizi also spoke on several logistical hurdles Afghanistan faces, including the border closures with Pakistan, blocked transit routes via Chabahar, and frozen foreign reserves worth .3 billion which were blocked by the US after Taliban took over Afghanistan. “Americans block our funds, they have frozen billion and block our trade routes. Pakistan blocks one side. What are we supposed to do?” he said, asking India to help ensure the trade route from Chabahar Port remained functional so that the trade remained commercially viable. He added that Afghanistan was willing to offer financial discounts and invest alongside India and Iran to speed up work . “We are here for one purpose – to find the lowest-cost route,” he said, “If there are ships needed, we will support it. If transport companies are needed, we will support it. If logistics need infrastructure, we will support it. We also invite the private sector to invest with us.”Azizi said the current billion in trade between India and Afghanistan was “far below potential” and mentioned that Afghanistan’s raw materials, dry fruits, carpets, and minerals offer strong opportunities for Indian buyers while Indian firms export rice, sugar, medicines, and garments. “Any trader who comes with a plan, we will assess it and we will provide all the possible facilities,” he said.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosTejas Crash: IAF Pilot Killed In Dubai Crash Identified As Wing Commander Namansh SyalDefence Experts Break Down Possible Causes Behind Tejas Fighter Jet Crash In DubaiPM Modi Gets Rousing Welcome From Indian Diaspora In Johannesburg Ahead Of G20 Summit | South Africa’‘I Am A Hindu’: Shashi Tharoor Evokes Swami Vivekananda To Tell The World What Hinduism Stands ForAmit Shah Says BSF Crushed 118 Pak Posts, He Issues Tough Security Message From Sindoor Van In KutchEx-CIA Reveals Savage Reply To Imran Khan’s PTI After Apology Demand Over His India-Pak War Analysis’All 140 MLAs Are Mine’: DK Shivakumar Amid Karnataka CM Speculation; Siddaramaiah RespondsKabul Turns To India As New Trade Partner Amid Pak Blockades And Push For Fresh Regional CorridorsTejas Crashes In Dubai Air Show Display As Massive Fireball Sparks Panic, Pilot Succumbs To InjuriesDeadly 5.5 Earthquake Rocks Bangladesh, Killing At Least Six, Triggers Widespread Panic Across Dhaka123PhotostoriesCan the 10-3-2-1 rule improve your sleep? Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney will meet at the G20 summit in Johannesburg, aiming to rebuild ties strained by the 2023 killing of a Khalistan separatist. NEW DELHI: Amidst the thawing India-Canada relationship, PM Narendra Modi will have his second meeting of the year with counterpart Mark Carney on the margins of the G20 summit in Johannesburg on Saturday. Both sides had finalised the meeting weeks in advance as they look to rebuild the relationship that was crushed by the killing of a Khalistan separatist in 2023 for which Canada blamed Indian authorities.Despite the pressure on Carney to seek accountability from India, he has worked to reset the relationship since June this year, when he invited Modi for the G7 meeting Canada hosted and had a bilateral meeting with him on the sidelines. The two countries, as foreign minister Anita Anand put it during her visit to India last month, elevated the relationship, with a joint statement that listed several steps to normalise ties, including through trade discussions.Anand, however, has also stressed that the outcome of such efforts will be contingent on the law enforcement and public safety dialogue between the two countries. The joint statement sought a constructive relationship based on mutual respect for rule of law and a commitment to upholding the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosTejas Crash: IAF Pilot Killed In Dubai Crash Identified As Wing Commander Namansh SyalDefence Experts Break Down Possible Causes Behind Tejas Fighter Jet Crash In DubaiPM Modi Gets Rousing Welcome From Indian Diaspora In Johannesburg Ahead Of G20 Summit | South Africa’‘I Am A Hindu’: Shashi Tharoor Evokes Swami Vivekananda To Tell The World What Hinduism Stands ForAmit Shah Says BSF Crushed 118 Pak Posts, He Issues Tough Security Message From Sindoor Van In KutchEx-CIA Reveals Savage Reply To Imran Khan’s PTI After Apology Demand Over His India-Pak War Analysis’All 140 MLAs Are Mine’: DK Shivakumar Amid Karnataka CM Speculation; Siddaramaiah RespondsKabul Turns To India As New Trade Partner Amid Pak Blockades And Push For Fresh Regional CorridorsTejas Crashes In Dubai Air Show Display As Massive Fireball Sparks Panic, Pilot Succumbs To InjuriesDeadly 5.5 Earthquake Rocks Bangladesh, Killing At Least Six, Triggers Widespread Panic Across Dhaka123PhotostoriesCan the 10-3-2-1 rule improve your sleep? Authorities are now establishing clear, measurable standards to define commuter “inconvenience” on national highways. This move aims to determine when toll collection should be suspended or reduced on poorly maintained stretches, addressing public outcry and judicial observations. A dedicated panel will submit its findings within a month to ensure accountability for road quality. NEW DELHI: The highways ministry has set up a panel to identify conditions – a measurable criteria for determining commuter “inconvenience” – under which authorities can take a call on whether to suspend or reduce toll collection on poorly maintained national highway stretches. The decision came amid growing public demand and observations by various high courts over suspension or reduction of toll collection, or user fees, on NHs that lack proper maintenance. Supreme Court had earlier noted that the public could not be forced to pay toll for roads in a state of disrepair.”First, we need to have clear criteria linking toll collection with riding quality and maintenance of an NH stretch. Reducing or suspending toll collection due to a few potholes or small damaged portions may not be fair. Therefore, there is a need to define inconvenience in a quantifiable, not subjective, manner. Once the committee submits its report, we will work out how to address the issue,” said an official. The panel has been asked to submit its report within a month.Corrective measures are already under way to ensure that multiple contractors are not simultaneously executing work on the same stretch, which often leads to confusion and blame-shifting, he added. Regular monitoring of highway stretches using advanced machines is also going on.Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari had also said highway authorities shouldn’t collect user fee, if they couldn’t ensure good quality roads. In case of 100% public private partnership projects, such as BOT-Toll, the contract conditions lay down provisions for suspending toll collection, but this has scarcely been enforced to rein in errant players. In case of govt-funded highways, it’s easy to suspend or reduce tolling charges.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosTejas Crash: IAF Pilot Killed In Dubai Crash Identified As Wing Commander Namansh SyalDefence Experts Break Down Possible Causes Behind Tejas Fighter Jet Crash In DubaiPM Modi Gets Rousing Welcome From Indian Diaspora In Johannesburg Ahead Of G20 Summit | South Africa’‘I Am A Hindu’: Shashi Tharoor Evokes Swami Vivekananda To Tell The World What Hinduism Stands ForAmit Shah Says BSF Crushed 118 Pak Posts, He Issues Tough Security Message From Sindoor Van In KutchEx-CIA Reveals Savage Reply To Imran Khan’s PTI After Apology Demand Over His India-Pak War Analysis’All 140 MLAs Are Mine’: DK Shivakumar Amid Karnataka CM Speculation; Siddaramaiah RespondsKabul Turns To India As New Trade Partner Amid Pak Blockades And Push For Fresh Regional CorridorsTejas Crashes In Dubai Air Show Display As Massive Fireball Sparks Panic, Pilot Succumbs To InjuriesDeadly 5.5 Earthquake Rocks Bangladesh, Killing At Least Six, Triggers Widespread Panic Across Dhaka123PhotostoriesCan the 10-3-2-1 rule improve your sleep?
