The box office journey of Sunny Deol’s period drama ‘Batwara 1947’ has taken a sharp downward turn. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and featuring a prominent ensemble cast comprising Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol, the Partition saga, backed by Aamir Khan, is finding it difficult to make a significant impact at the ticket window. After a lukewarm opening weekend, the early figures for Day 5 indicate collections in a similar range to its first Monday.The film recorded a marginal increase on its first Tuesday, which was somewhat expected as several multiplexes offer discounted ticket prices on Tuesdays. ‘Batwara 1947’ collected Rs 2 crore on Monday before registering a slight rise to Rs 2.25 crore on Tuesday, despite playing across 6,608 shows. The number of day 5 is 12.5 percent growth from Monday numbers.With this, the Sunny Deol-led film’s domestic net collection has reached Rs 30.75 crore. Its India gross currently stands at Rs 36.54 crore, while the worldwide gross has reached Rs 43.29 crore.Made on a budget of Rs 120 crore reportedly, ‘Batwara 1947’ has recovered only 24.5% of its budget so far, leaving the film with a considerable distance to cover before it can approach profitability.
