The TMC also accused the BJP-led state administration of failing to maintain law and order and allowing political violence to flourish.“A BJP Bengal goon ARMED WITH WEAPONS possibly planned to MURDER our Hon’ble National General Secretary Shri Abhishek Banerjee,” the party wrote. It further alleged that criminals were operating with “absolute impunity” and questioned whether the episode amounted to a “state-sponsored attempt to eliminate a political opponent”.The TMC has repeatedly accused the BJP of encouraging attacks on its leaders, while the BJP has argued that such incidents reflect public anger against the former ruling party.Abhishek Banerjee himself was among the first senior TMC leaders to face hostility after the election results. TOI has learnt that the levy would be separate from environment compensation charge (ECC) that trucks, buses and goods vehicles pay at Delhi’s borders before entering the national capital.After several rounds of discussions at Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the “Green Contribution Scheme” is being finalised for implementation from Oct-Nov when Delhi and adjoining areas face severe air pollution. The scheme would cover around 5,000 sq km of NCR.People privy to the discussion said the green charge may be around Rs 1,000-1,300 for trucks and buses and Rs 500-650 for light goods vehicles and mini-buses. There are also discussions over whether to levy some charge on diesel-fuelled commercial cars.As per the proposal, overhead gantries would be installed at the identified entry points along the 270-km ring expressway network. The gantries would have high-power cameras that can read vehicle registration numbers and make, and also have advanced readers for FASTag. The green charge would be deducted from the FASTag wallet of the vehicle.Sources said discussions are continuing over the sharing of the fund that would be generated through the green charge between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, and also the mechanism to utilise it.Govt is also pushing to accelerate the rollout of the Parivartan scheme to replace old trucks and buses — BS-I to BS-IV — with vehicles that meet BS-VI emission norms and other cleaner vehicles. Recently, top road transport ministry officials held a marathon meeting with all district collectors to sensitise them about the scheme and convince vehicle owners to avail it. (Picture credit: ANI) A fire broke out near the helipad at Ram Katha Park in Ayodhya minutes before Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath landed there on Friday, officials said.Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire and determine how it broke out close to the helipad designated for the chief minister’s arrival. According to officials, it affected an area of about 15 metres before being brought under control ahead of the chief minister’s landing.Security personnel deployed at the site initially attempted to contain the flames before fire brigade teams arrived and extinguished the blaze.No injuries or loss of life were reported.Ayodhya Circle Officer Ashutosh Tiwari said the fire had been brought under control and that there were no casualties.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Ayodhya on Friday to participate in several programmes and public events.Officials said an investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the fire and whether any lapses in safety or security arrangements contributed to the incident.Get the latest India news and live updates.
