Rahul Gandhi NEW DELHI: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday announced that Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, should be the next Prime Minister, urging the people of Telangana to support his efforts to promote Gandhi as the country’s future leader.”The people of Telangana need to stand in support of this. We have a duty to express our gratitude to Sonia Gandhi, who granted us Telangana. Walk with me and let us make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister in 2029. And the first step towards this must be taken right here from Midjil Mandal,” he added.Addressing a public meeting after laying foundation stones for development works in Midjil Mandal, Reddy appealed to the public to express their gratitude to Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the statehood of Telangana by backing Rahul Gandhi’s prime ministerial bid.”Congress will remain in power until 2034. Congress must come back to power in the state, and Rahul Gandhi must become the Prime Minister of this country. There is a historical necessity in the country to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister,” Reddy said.Reddy’s appeal to the people of Telangana is significant, given that the state has traditionally been a Congress stronghold before the formation of the BRS. The Congress returned to power in Telangana in December 2023, ending the BRS’s 10-year rule, and has since been focusing on consolidating its position in the state.Get the latest India news and live updates. A Delhi court on Saturday sentenced Bihar BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh to four years’ simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh after convicting him in the 2018 celebratory firing case that claimed the life of a woman during a New Year party in the national capital.Pronouncing the sentence, Special Judge Vishal Gogne said, “The convict is sentenced to 4 years simple imprisonment under Section 304 part II of the IPC and 2 months imprisonment under the Arms Act.”The court also directed that the Rs 25 lakh fine be paid as compensation to the family of the deceased, Archana Gupta. The sentencing follows Singh’s conviction under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code, dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder with knowledge, along with provisions of the Arms Act for violating licence conditions.A day before the sentencing, Singh had sought release on probation, arguing that he did not intend to cause the victim’s death and citing his otherwise unblemished record as an elected representative.PollVote & Share your viewWhat punishment do you think fits celebratory firing incidents like this one?Severe imprisonment and hefty fines.Educational programs on safety.3k+ users shared opinion today 5k+ users already voted today 3k+ users shared opinion today Share OpinionThe case stems from a celebratory firing incident at a farmhouse in Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri during a New Year celebration on the intervening night of December 31, 2018, and January 1, 2019.
