Talks for a BRICS foreign ministers’ joint statement seemed balanced on a knife-edge on the first day of the meeting, with a consensus on the West Asia situation remaining uncertain. Diplomatic sources said efforts to find common ground between the UAE and Iran were still on, even as the 2 countries held on to their positions and even clashed at the meeting. While the UAE is seeking condemnation of Iran’s actions, the Iranian foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, urged member-states to “explicitly condemn violations of international law by the US and Israel, including their illegal aggression against Iran”. Araghchi accused the Arab country of being directly involved in aggression against Iran. This accusation came not while delivering Iran’s national statement but in response to “unfounded” claims by UAE’s junior foreign minister Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, according to reports from Iran. “In fact, I must say that the UAE was directly involved in the act of aggression against Iran. When the war of aggression began against Iran, they (UAE) refused to even condemn it,” said Araghchi, accusing the UAE of providing military bases, airspace, land and facilities to the US and Israel. “If you want Israel to provide your security, this is the result. If you want America to provide your security, this is the result you are complaining about now. Therefore, I strongly advise my brothers in the Emirates to reconsider their policy towards Iran,” he further said addressing the UAE minister, according to the Iranian state media. The foreign ministers’ meeting ends with the final session on Friday morning. If there is no consensus for a joint statement, the meeting would likely end with a Chair’s statement like what happened with a meeting of the special envoys last month. Significantly, external affairs minister S Jaishankar stressed in his welcome remarks at the meeting that it is essential for the smooth advancement of BRICS that “later members” fully appreciate and subscribe to the grouping consensus on various important issues. He was talking about institutional development, including the integration of new members through a stocktake and updation of existing mechanisms. Iran and UAE had both joined the grouping of major emerging economies along with Egypt and Ethiopia in 2024. Araghchi also raised the issue of Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s “secret” trip to UAE during the war, something which Abu Dhabi has denied. “Just yesterday, it was revealed that Netanyahu had traveled to the UAE during the war. It was also revealed that they participated in these attacks and may have even acted directly against us. So, the UAE is an active partner in this aggression, and there is no doubt about it,” said Araghchi. While delivering Iran’s national statement, the minister also urged BRICS to prevent the politicization of international institutions and to take concrete action to halt “warmongering and to bring an end to the impunity of those who violate the UN Charter”. “We believe that BRICS can, and must, become one of the principal pillars in shaping a more just, balanced, and humane global order; an order in which might can never make right,” said Araghchi.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosDelhi HC Judge Initiates Contempt Proceedings Against Kejriwal; Refers Case To New Bench2 Days WFH To ‘No Vehicle Day’: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Unveils Fuel-Saving Steps After PM Modi’s CallCong Picks VD Satheesan As Kerala CM; Iran FM Lands In India For Brics Meet With ‘Minab168’ MsgSupreme Court Questions CEC Appointment Process, Raises ‘Independence’ ConcernsMan Trying To Hold Tin Shed Gets Swept Into Air During Violent Storm In Bareilly, Survives Fall’Unacceptable’: India Slams Attack On Indian-Flagged Ship Near OmanEC Announces Phase 3 Of SIR Across 16 States, 3 UTs; J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Left OutEx-Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee In Lawyer’s Gown Argues Post-poll Violence Case In High CourtKC Venugopal Backs VD Satheesan as Kerala CM, Says Congress Fully United Behind HimCongress Picks VD Satheesan as Kerala CM After 10 Days of Talks and Leadership Battle123PhotostoriesHappy Birthday Vicky Kaushal: With Katrina Kaif, Sunny Kaushal and family, inside the actor’s most heartwarming momentsMilk Price Hike: Popular packaged milk prices rise across India; healthy milk alternatives to add to daily dietTop 10 fascinating facts about rhinos that make them unlike any other wild animal5 animals with giant tusks and horns that make them look prehistoricHow these 5 Indian ice creams became among the 100 Most Iconic Ice Creams of the WorldRice water vs coconut water for hair growth: Which works better in summer?5 reasons why someone dislikes you – And why is it not your problemAditi Rao Hydari just landed in Cannes and her denim airport look already screams red carpet royalty10 affirmations to attract calm and genuine loveFeeling constantly exhausted at work? The 9th-century Hindu temple PM Modi visited in Indonesia Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday jointly inaugurated an India-supported restoration project at the Prambanan Temple Compounds, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during Modi’s state visit to Indonesia. The inauguration marked a key moment in India’s cultural diplomacy under its “Act East” policy, highlighting the shared civilisational and cultural links between India and Indonesia.Recalling the restoration of several historic temples in India, PM Modi said he felt privileged to be associated with the revival of the Prambanan Temple Compounds.”Whether it is the reconstruction of Kedardham or the reconstruction of Ujjain Mahakal, or coming here today to have the fortune to start the work of reviving and renovating our cultural heritage–which is about a thousand or twelve hundred years old and connected with memories of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh–I consider myself extremely lucky, PM Modi said. Referring to the restoration project, PM Modi said he would return to the Prambanan Temple Compounds once the work is completed. “I promise you that after its reconstruction, I will definitely come here and celebrate this festival with you,” PM Modi said. The restoration project at the Prambanan Temple Compounds is part of India’s broader efforts to preserve the region’s shared cultural heritage. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is working with Indonesian authorities to restore and conserve several smaller temples within the sprawling Prambanan complex.Located near Yogyakarta on Indonesia’s Java island, Prambanan is one of the country’s largest Hindu temple complexes. Built in the 9th century AD, the site suffered extensive damage over the centuries due to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and political upheaval in the early 11th century. The temples, which were rediscovered in the 17th century, have since undergone multiple phases of restoration. The complex comprises 240 temples dedicated to the Hindu trinity of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. Its innermost enclosure houses 16 temples, including the 47-metre-tall Shiva temple, flanked by the Brahma temple to the north and the Vishnu temple to the south.Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Prambanan is renowned for its intricate stone reliefs depicting the Indonesian version of the Ramayana. UNESCO describes the temple compounds as a masterpiece of classical Shiva art in Indonesia, with restoration work continuing since 1918 using both traditional interlocking stone techniques and modern structural reinforcement methods. The site was also declared Indonesia’s National Cultural Property in 1998.Prambanan remains a major cultural landmark, hosting the renowned Ramayana ballet in an open-air theatre on the temple’s southern side during full moon evenings between May and October.Get the latest India news and live updates.
