CJI Surya Kant NEW DELHI: Chief Justice Surya Kant Saturday said he ‘was pained’ by a section of media misquoting his comments on youth during courtroom proceedings on Friday and clarified that his angst was against those joining the legal profession with bogus degrees and behaving like parasites. In a statement, CJI Kant said, “What I had specifically criticised were those who have entered professions like the Bar with the aid of fake and bogus degrees. Such persons have sneaked into media, social media, and other noble professions” and are attempting to weaken every system like parasites. Also read: ‘Jobless cockroaches… attack the system,’ says CJI Surya KantThe CJI-led bench was critical of an advocate who was seeking a judicial direction to the Delhi HC to designate him as senior advocate and had observed that it was looking for an appropriate case to order CBI inquiry into the genuineness of degrees of many masquerading as advocates in Delhi.CJI Surya Kant said it was beyond his imagination to criticise the youth of the country with whom he shares mutual respect.“It is totally baseless to suggest that I criticised the youth of our nation. Not only am I proud of our present and future human resource, but every youth of India inspires me. Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of electoral malpractice, alleging “chunav chori” (election theft). He claimed systematic manipulation, citing Haryana as an example of “wholesale chori” and “one man, multiple votes,” and stated the Prime Minister came to power through such means. NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a sharp attack at the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission, alleging large-scale electoral malpractice and claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “became the PM through chunav chori.”Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Rahul said his party had gathered extensive evidence to expose what he described as a pattern of election manipulation. “We have a lot of material, we will continue this process. We will clearly show India’s GenZ and youth that Narendra Modi became the PM through ‘chunav chori’ and BJP indulges in ‘chunav chori’,” he said.Referring to recent reports of a BJP leader allegedly casting votes at two different locations, Rahul claimed that electoral fraud was not isolated but systematic. “I gave a presentation that Haryana elections were not elections at all. A ‘wholesale chori’ occurred there. There was no response by the EC to the allegations levelled by me – fake vote, fake photograph,” he said.According to Rahul, the BJP’s defence of the incident without denial only reinforced his charge. “BJP is defending this but not negating what I said. Media is picking up small examples, like a Brazilian woman voted. How was voting done on the photo of a Brazilian national?” he asked. The Congress leader went on to accuse the Prime Minister, home minister Amit Shah, and the Election Commission of jointly undermining the Constitution. “The reality is that Narendra Modi ji, Amit Shah ji and EC are attacking the Constitution together. Constitution says ‘One man, one vote’. Haryana shows that there was no ‘One man, one vote’ there. It was ‘One man, multiple votes’,” he said.He alleged that the same pattern of electoral malpractice was being repeated across states. “They are going to do the same in Bihar. It happened in MP, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Gujarat,” he said, adding that his party would continue to raise the issue to “protect the Constitution and the people’s vote.”The Election Commission has not yet responded to Rahul Gandhi’s latest allegations. The BJP, meanwhile, has dismissed earlier claims by the Congress leader as politically motivated attempts to discredit the electoral process.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. NEW DELHI: The vice president of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu state unit Khushbu Sundar expressed her support for TVK chief Vijay for the chief ministerial post as the latter has hit a roadblock in government formation in the state after falling short of majority by 5 MLAs.”As a citizen of Tamilnadu State, when people have chosen their CM, he should lead,” Khushbu Sundar said in a post on X.BJP has won one seat in Tamil Nadu, in alliance with AIADMK. Congress has alleged that the delay in inviting Vijay to form the government is a calculated move by the BJP-led Centre, describing it as an “undemocratic” attempt to undermine the people’s mandate.Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar called Vijay twice in two days and asked him to submit letters of support from allied MLAs and other partners, effectively establishing a working majority before an invitation to form the government.Neither the DMK nor the AIADMK managed to secure a majority, resulting in a hung assembly.
