NEW DELHI: National Medical Commission has directed all medical colleges across the country to submit detailed annual disclosure reports by May 30 for renewal of MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic session, warning that no extension will be granted beyond the deadline. In a notice issued by the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board, the NMC said all existing medical colleges with approval to run MBBS courses must upload mandatory institutional data on the commission’s portal under the Maintenance of Standards of Medical Education Regulations, 2023.The disclosure process forms a key part of the annual renewal mechanism through which colleges receive permission to continue admitting undergraduate medical students. The NMC has also made it mandatory for colleges to pay an online processing fee of 3.54 lakh, including GST, through the designated portal while applying for renewal of MBBS seats. “No other mode of payment will be accepted,” the notice stated. The commission warned colleges to ensure that all information uploaded on the portal is accurate and consistent across different NMC boards, adding that submitted data may be made public if required.Colleges will not be allowed to edit information once the application is submitted.About the AuthorAnuja JaiswalAnuja Jaiswal is a Senior Assistant Editor at The Times of India, with an impressive 18-year career in narrative journalism. NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: CBI has significantly widened its NEET-UG-2026 paper leak probe, with investigators now focused on a potential “insider role” even as one more suspect was arrested from Pune and a retired chemistry professor detained in Latur. As the total arrests went up to seven, sources said the investigators were trying to ascertain if the breach originated from within the high-security, core chain of custody and access before the May 3 medical entrance exam was cancelled over the leak.CBI sleuths are seeking information from NTA, which conducts NEET, about every stakeholder who had access to the question paper before it was sealed. This includes information about people who set questions and subject experts, professors and teachers who were in the panel that prepared the questions, besides details of the entire process of preparing questions. Separately, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a high-level meeting at his Delhi residence late Thursday with top officials for the fresh NEET test whose dates will be announced subsequently. In Pune, CBI identified the suspect arrested Thursday as Manisha Waghmare, a beauty parlour owner who was picked up from the city’s Sukhsagar Nagar area.Waghmare allegedly acted as an intermediary for Dhananjay, a BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) passout who ran a consultancy in Pune and was among the six arrested Wednesday — three from Jaipur and one each from Gurgaon, and Maharashtra’s Nasik and Ahilya Nagar. Waghmare had allegedly received money from around two dozen bank accounts ahead of the test.CBI said it conducted searches at 14 locations Thursday, the action coming as those arrested were produced in court and sent to seven days’ remand for interrogation. “Several other suspects are being interrogated. More arrests will be made in the coming days. CBI is pursuing all leads,” said an officer. In Latur, the retired chemistry teacher detained by CBI for questioning was from Dayanand Sagar College, officials said. Sources said the individual had access to the entire NEET question paper as part of a translation panel responsible for rendering the paper in Marathi. NEET is conducted in 13 languages, requiring multiple parallel translation workflows under strict confidentiality protocols.Officials declined to disclose the professor’s identity or specify the precise role, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. Latur, long regarded as a coaching hub that draws students from across Maharashtra, has emerged as a focal point in the inquiry. A complaint filed by a parent at the SP’s office two days ago alleged that 42 questions in a mock test conducted by a private coaching institute in the city matched those in the NEET paper. In Rajasthan, investigators suspect Dinesh Biwal, one of the three arrested from the state, is suspected to have scanned the hard copy of the leaked NEET paper and shared it digitally. He allegedly obtained the paper from Gurgaon’s Yash Yadav, another arrested suspect from Gurgaon, for his son and later shared or sold it to other students known to him in Sikar district. In Delhi, where some of the suspects were remanded by a local court, CBI alleged a “larger conspiracy” behind the nationwide leak. The agency told the court that custodial interrogation was necessary to apprehend other culprits, recover digital devices and electronic evidence, trace the financial trail and “identify possible officials of NTA” involved in the crime.(Inputs from Dishank Purohit in Jaipur and Koushiki Saha in Delhi)About the AuthorRaj Shekhar JhaRaj Shekhar Jha is a journalist for the Times of India with over a decade of experience in reporting on national security, terrorism, crime and prisons.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosDelhi HC Judge Initiates Contempt Proceedings Against Kejriwal; Refers Case To New Bench2 Days WFH To ‘No Vehicle Day’: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Unveils Fuel-Saving Steps After PM Modi’s CallCong Picks VD Satheesan As Kerala CM; Iran FM Lands In India For Brics Meet With ‘Minab168’ MsgSupreme Court Questions CEC Appointment Process, Raises ‘Independence’ ConcernsMan Trying To Hold Tin Shed Gets Swept Into Air During Violent Storm In Bareilly, Survives Fall’Unacceptable’: India Slams Attack On Indian-Flagged Ship Near OmanEC Announces Phase 3 Of SIR Across 16 States, 3 UTs; J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Left OutEx-Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee In Lawyer’s Gown Argues Post-poll Violence Case In High CourtKC Venugopal Backs VD Satheesan as Kerala CM, Says Congress Fully United Behind HimCongress Picks VD Satheesan as Kerala CM After 10 Days of Talks and Leadership Battle123PhotostoriesMorning affirmation at 5 AM: The mindset you need before sunriseFriday OTT releases this week (May 11-17): ‘Kartavya’, ‘Berlin’ and ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ lead the lineupTara Sutaria looks straight out of a 1950s Hollywood dream at Cannes in this vintage Vivienne Westwood coutureHappy Birthday Vicky Kaushal: With Katrina Kaif, Sunny Kaushal and family, inside the actor’s most heartwarming momentsMilk Price Hike: Popular packaged milk prices rise across India; healthy milk alternatives to add to daily dietTop 10 fascinating facts about rhinos that make them unlike any other wild animal5 animals with giant tusks and horns that make them look prehistoricHow these 5 Indian ice creams became among the 100 Most Iconic Ice Creams of the WorldRice water vs coconut water for hair growth: Which works better in summer?5 reasons why someone dislikes you – And why is it not your problem123Hot PicksCBSE class 12 resultUS Iran warPrateek YadavHaryana election resultForeign outflowNEET exam cancelledTamil Nadu assemblyTop TrendingWB Class 12 Result 2026WB Board 12th ResultIPL Points TablePM Internship SchemeCalcutta High CourtMI vs PBKS IPL MatchIPL Orange Cap 2026Haryana Board ResultAir India FlightsPrateek Yadav

NEW DELHI: Exhorting defence scientists to accelerate R&D work, defence minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the “battlefield of tomorrow will reward those who can shorten the time between an idea, a prototype and operational deployment”.Addressing defence strategic dialogue Kalam & Kavach 3.0 in a video message here, Rajnath said, “A nation’s strength will increasingly depend on how quickly its defence forces, labs, and industries think & act as one”, underscoring the importance of self-reliance and jointness to secure strategic autonomy & remain future-ready for emerging security challenges.“National security demands our preparedness, resilience, innovation, and strategic confidence,” he said.Rajnath described self-reliance as not only an economic goal, but also a strategic necessity, asserting that a nation that depends excessively on others for critical defence capability remains vulnerable in times of crisis. In the presence of Italian and Armenian envoys at the event, MoS defence Sanjay Seth told foreign delegates that India firmly believes that global security and progress are strengthened through cooperation, trust and shared innovation. He said India’s defence exports, which were a meagre Rs 686 crore a decade ago, have skyrocketed to a record high of Rs 38,424 crore today. He said annual defence production has touched an all-time high of Rs 1.54 lakh crore in financial year 2025-26 and reaffirmed the govt’s resolve to achieve the target of Rs 50,000 crore of defence exports and Rs 3 lakh crore of defence production by 2029-30.Talking about Operation Sindoor at a special session at the event, CDS Gen Anil Chauhan said the Indian armed forces “dominated the escalation matrix on all four days” of the conflict. On ‘JAI’ (jointness, atmanirbharta and innovation) triad, the CDS said that as far as the planned theaterisation is concerned, efforts have been made in this direction with enhanced “scale and speed” as India is lagging behind other countries by 10-15 years, which have already implemented such structures. “These joint structures, which we are trying to create, would be one of the most transformative reforms that India would be undertaking… Our model was slightly different. Some people had to introduce legislation, it was a top-down kind of approach. I tried to work through consensus. Consensus was taking everyone along,” he said.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosDelhi HC Judge Initiates Contempt Proceedings Against Kejriwal; Refers Case To New Bench2 Days WFH To ‘No Vehicle Day’: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Unveils Fuel-Saving Steps After PM Modi’s CallCong Picks VD Satheesan As Kerala CM; Iran FM Lands In India For Brics Meet With ‘Minab168’ MsgSupreme Court Questions CEC Appointment Process, Raises ‘Independence’ ConcernsMan Trying To Hold Tin Shed Gets Swept Into Air During Violent Storm In Bareilly, Survives Fall’Unacceptable’: India Slams Attack On Indian-Flagged Ship Near OmanEC Announces Phase 3 Of SIR Across 16 States, 3 UTs; J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Left OutEx-Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee In Lawyer’s Gown Argues Post-poll Violence Case In High CourtKC Venugopal Backs VD Satheesan as Kerala CM, Says Congress Fully United Behind HimCongress Picks VD Satheesan as Kerala CM After 10 Days of Talks and Leadership Battle123PhotostoriesTara Sutaria looks straight out of a 1950s Hollywood dream at Cannes in this vintage Vivienne Westwood coutureHappy Birthday Vicky Kaushal: With Katrina Kaif, Sunny Kaushal and family, inside the actor’s most heartwarming momentsMilk Price Hike: Popular packaged milk prices rise across India; healthy milk alternatives to add to daily dietTop 10 fascinating facts about rhinos that make them unlike any other wild animal5 animals with giant tusks and horns that make them look prehistoricHow these 5 Indian ice creams became among the 100 Most Iconic Ice Creams of the WorldRice water vs coconut water for hair growth: Which works better in summer?5 reasons why someone dislikes you – And why is it not your problemAditi Rao Hydari just landed in Cannes and her denim airport look already screams red carpet royalty10 affirmations to attract calm and genuine love123Hot PicksCBSE class 12 resultUS Iran warPrateek YadavHaryana election resultForeign outflowNEET exam cancelledTamil Nadu assemblyTop TrendingWB Class 12 Result 2026WB Board 12th ResultIPL Points TablePM Internship SchemeCalcutta High CourtMI vs PBKS IPL MatchIPL Orange Cap 2026Haryana Board ResultAir India FlightsPrateek Yadav
