SRINAGAR: J&K Police’s investigative wing, Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), Thursday raided 10 locations in three districts of Kashmir Valley and busted a “terrorist recruitment module” allegedly linked to handlers across the Line of Control (LoC) and a network based in Bangladesh, a CIK statement claimed. The raids were carried out in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Shopian districts on warrants issued by the special NIA judge in Srinagar. The seizure included “incriminating materials, including digital devices, SIM cards, mobile phones, laptops, and other documents” pertinent to the investigation, the statement said. An FIR under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was registered at CIK police station.A Bangladesh-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, Shabir Ahmad Lone, had been handling the module, CIK stated. A “highly radicalised and trained” handler, Lone underwent “structured arms training in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir” and initially worked as an overground worker for a terror outfit in the late 1990s before joining LeT in the early 2000s, the statement said.“He later infiltrated India via the Bangladesh border and remained actively involved in terror-related activities, including conspiracy in high-profile attacks,” CIK stated, adding that Lone later exfiltrated to Bangladesh, from where he has been “operating and coordinating terrorist recruitment and network expansion”.Investigation further revealed that Lone was in close touch with the senior leadership of proscribed terrorist organisations and played a key role in reviving cross-border terror modules, CIK stated. He currently continues direct operations from Bangladesh “through a network of associates and overground workers” and is the “most wanted terrorist operating from a foreign land,” the statement said.CIK had earlier stated that it arrested one of Lone’s close associates, Irfan Ahmad Wani (45) from Shopian’s Heerpura. The nasty, naughty Home Minister who cannot protect the country is taking away all my party documents,” Banerjee said while speaking to reporters.”At 6:00 am, they arrived and seized the party’s data, laptops, strategies, and mobile phones. Their forensic experts transferred all the data. I believe this is a crime,” she said.Countering the Chief Minister’s allegations, the ED accused Mamata Banerjee of entering the residential premises of Prateek Jain, director of I-PAC, during the ongoing search operation and taking away “key evidence”, including physical documents and electronic devices.”Banerjee entered the residential premises of Prateek Jain and took away key evidence, including physical documents and electronic devices,” the ED said, adding that her convoy then proceeded to I-PAC’s office, from where “Ms Banerjee, her aides and the state police personnel forcibly removed physical documents and electronic evidence”.On Friday, TMC MPs in Delhi staged a protest at the Home Ministry in Delhi, raising slogans against Amit Shah, alleging “misuse” of the probe agency. (ANI photo) NEW DELHI: Iran has backed the Chabahar port and cooperation with India amid the uncertainty looming over the project because of ongoing US efforts to isolate Iran, including the Trump administration’s decision last year to revoke a sanctions waiver that allowed India to develop a terminal at the port. While Washington extended the waiver till April 26 after talks with the Indian side, there’s little hope of another extension in the current circumstances. The Union Budget this year saw zero allocation for the port but govt has defended the decision saying it has already transferred the entire committed amount of 0 million to Iran. However, India has not backed out of the project or its commitment to extend a 0 million line of credit for further development of the port, according to a 10-year contract signed in 2024. This commitment is not time bound though. “The port of Chabahar is vital, and it can play a good role in accessing Afghanistan and central Asia. We have a good relationship with some countries, particularly India. I believe we should boost and expand our relations,” said Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali. “Chabahar is Chabahar.
