NEW DELHI: In a late evening filing Tuesday, Election Commission told Supreme Court the Kerala govt has no locus standi to seek postponement of the special intensive revision (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls on the ground of a parallel process being underway for local body elections.EC said it has issued categorical instructions to ensure that SIR activities are conducted in a manner that does not overlap with or interfere in any way with local body poll work.It said, “Kerala lacks the requisite locus standi to seek deferment of SIR on the ground of its simultaneous conduct with the local self-govt institution elections, as the authority to determine the schedule and conduct of such local elections exclusively vests with the Kerala State Election Commission (KSEC).”Fixing poll schedules from the grassroots level democratic bodies to that of Parliament is the sole prerogative of SEC and if any was to be aggrieved by simultaneous conduct of SIR and local body elections, it should have been KSEC and not the state govt, EC said.”Kerala SEC and the Kerala chief electoral officer (CEO) are functioning in close coordination to ensure smooth and efficient conduct of both local body elections and SIR without any disruption to either process,” EC said, adding district collectors, who are also the district election officers for both local body polls and SIR, have assured adequate administrative arrangements are in place to facilitate efficient implementation of both activities. It said, “District collectors are authorised to engage only those personnel who are not assigned local body poll duties for SIR-related work. Wherever personnel assigned for election-related work are required by SEC, they may be substituted for SIR duties in accordance with ECI guidelines.”EC said it is clear there exists no operational overlap between first phase of SIR and conduct of local elections.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosKejriwal, Mann Pay Homage to Ninth Sikh Guru on 350th Martyrdom DayYogi Adityanath Uncovers The Dark Truth Of Mughal’S Tyranny On Shaheedi DiwasIndia Entering ‘Golden Era’ Of Defence Innovation And Self-Reliance: Rajnath Singh‘Until Brahmin Donates His Daughter’: IAS Officer’S Remark Sparks Row, Issues Clarification’A Nation That Never Bows to Terror, Operation Sindoor Shows New India’s Resolve, Says PM ModiChina Rejects Charge of Harassing Indian Woman in Shanghai, But Insists Claim Over Arunachal PradeshMamata Banerjee Warns BJP With Nation-Shaking Threat As SIR Battle Erupts In Bengal Ahead Of PollsAssam CM Calls Zubeen Garg’S Death ‘Plain Murder’, Drops Explosive RevelationDrone Show Pays Homage To Guru Tegh Bahadur In 350th Martyrdom Anniversary Event At Anandpur SahibRed Fort Attack May Derail Benjamin Netanyahu’s India Visit As Israeli Media Flags Safety Concerns123Photostories5 electric blue animals that seem to be painted with ocean water6 factors that are essential to balance blood sugar naturallyThe most viral MET Gala moments you almost forgot10 phrases your child should avoid saying and what to teach them insteadExclusive – Bigg Boss 19: From opening up about her relationship with Kumar Sanu to calling Malti Chahar a ‘lesbian’; Kunickaa Sadanand breaks silence on her journey5 celebrity looks of the day that are setting major fashion goalsMrs. Gump’s most inspiring life lessons from Forrest Gump that still inspire generations8 modern-sounding baby boy names in Sanskrit and their meaningWinter-Friendly Fruits: 8 plants that thrives in cold-weather gardensFrom ‘Dhurandhar’ to ‘Kill Dil’: Moments when Ranveer Singh ruled action on screen123Hot PicksDelhi AQI TodayNew Labour CodeCyclone SenyarGold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays NovemberBank Holidays NovemberTop TrendingJoel EmbiidAyesha CurryKevin DurantTrey BensonStefon DiggsMLB Trade RumorsKayla NicoleJaxson DartTyson FuryTrump Gold Card

KURUKSHETRA/NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi paid glowing tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur on his 350th martyrdom anniversary in Kurukshetra Tuesday, saying the ninth Sikh Guru considered the protection of truth, justice and faith his dharma, and sacrificed his life to defend it.His government will continue with the same “guru parampara”, the PM said at an event organised by Haryana govt in Kurukshetra’s Jyotisar village.Beginning his speech with the words “Jo Bole So Nihaal…”, the PM said he was struck by the amazing confluence of the country’s heritage: “This morning, I was in the land of Ramayana, in Ayodhya, and now I am in the land of Bhagavad Gita, Kurukshetra, to pay tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur ji.”Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life is an inspiration, Modi said. He spoke of the Guru’s penance and courage and said his martyrdom was a symbol of fearless resistance during Mughal oppression. He noted how the Guru “challenged Aurangzeb’s forced conversions, remained steadfast despite temptations and torture, witnessed the martyrdom of his companions without wavering, and ultimately offered his head in defence of dharma”.Kurukshetra is blessed as nearly every Sikh Guru came here, he said. “This is the land where Shri Krishna said it is noble to sacrifice one’s life in the defence of one’s dharma on the path of truth. Guru Tegh Bahadur also saw the defence of truth, justice and faith as his dharma and he sacrificed his life for it,” PM Modi said.”India has followed Guruji’s principle of offering brotherhood to the world but not compromising with its security. Op Sindoor is the biggest example of this,” he said, adding: “We want peace but do not make any compromise with our security. The whole world has seen that the new India neither gets scared nor is it cowed by terrorism.
