NEW DELHI: Amid ongoing Indian efforts to diversify its oil supplies, PM Narendra Modi met Venezuela acting President Delcy Rodríguez and discussed ways to deepen the energy partnership. The Latin American country, which tops the list of countries with largest proven oil reserves, has emerged in recent weeks as one of India’s top crude suppliers. While no agreement was signed, both sides focused on securing long-term energy contracts citing “perfect complementarity” in the energy sector. The PM said in a post on X that they had extensive discussions on expanding cooperation in not just energy but also critical minerals, tech, agriculture, health and people-to-people ties.As India looks to diversify, Venezuela pitches in: Great opportunities existAs a valued partner in Latin America, our close cooperation with Venezuela holds immense importance for the Global South. We will continue to work together for the mutual benefit of the people of our nations,” said the PM.After having effectively taken control of Venezuela’s oil industry, the US had pushed India to resume procurement from the country. India was one of the largest importers of Venezuelan crude in 2020 when it halted purchases because of US sanctions.US secretary of state Marco Rubio had first announced, ahead of his visit to India last month, that Rodriguez would soon be visiting India. According to officials, the message from Rodriguez was that Venezuela is open for business, and there are great opportunities for India as it looks to diversify its supplies at a time the Strait of Hormuz remains choked by the US-Iran conflict.“Venezuela sees India as a stable demand for many years to come. Therefore, there exists a perfect complementarity for both to work in the energy sector, upstream as well as downstream,” said MEA secretary (east) Rudrendra Tandon, adding Venezuela has already emerged as the third largest supplier for India this month in terms of spot purchases. The discussions also focused on expanding cooperation in areas like mining, agriculture, critical minerals, and pharmaceuticals. Asked whether the payment for the crude would be made directly to the US or to the Venezuelan govt, the official said the actual work will be done by commercial entities, both in public as well as the private sector.“All these companies operate at the global level in global markets. So, they will have to consider the existing payment methods that are going to be adopted when you do economic activity in Venezuela,” said Tandon. On details of the energy partnership both sides are looking to forge, the official said oil exporters realise the importance of India as a stable and long-term buyer. “So, it is in their interest to enter into long-term contracts rather than do spot buying. We hope that at some stage, we move forward to long-term secure supplies from all our suppliers,” said the official, adding that the Indian refining industry is well equipped to handle Venezuela’s “hard” crude. The MEA said during her five-day working visit to India, Delcy Rodriguez will visit several sites connected with energy, pharmaceuticals and auto sectors to gain insight into India’s technological and industrial capabilities and to explore opportunities for collaboration.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideos’I Saw Four Bodies At One Spot’: Local Hero Recounts Horror Of Delhi Fire | Watch’Did Not Tell Me…’: RJD MP Breaks Silence On Helping Cockroach Janta Party In Holding Presser’Whatever I Am Today Is Because Of Mamata’: Humayun Kabir Offers Rejinagar Seat To TMC Chief’We Are No More In INDIA Bloc, Will Not Attend June 8 Meet’: DMK After Congress ‘Betrayal’ In TNHijab, No Music, Separate Timings: Kerala’s ‘Islam-Friendly’ Gym Sparks Row, BJP Slams CongressAfter TCS Nashik Case, Ex-Wipro Pune Employee Alleges Religious Conversion, Forced ResignationNo Woman In Karnataka Cabinet: Margaret Alva ‘Deeply Disappointed’ Over DK Shivakumar Oath CeremonyPune IT Firm Abruptly Closes Operations, Over 700 Employees And Interns Left JoblessCongress Tells Cadre To Ignore CJP, Stay Focused On NEET-CBSE AgitationWhy IRCTC Is Verifying 6 Crore Users And Deploying AI Cameras In 800 Kitchens123Photostories5 most venomous sea snakes travellers should know aboutWant melt-in-the-mouth mutton dishes? 5 lesser-known secrets to follow at homeSambhavna Seth breaks down in tears as she welcomes twins via surrogacy with husband Avinash Dwivedi; cuts her babies’ umbilical cords, Says ‘Family Complete Ho Gayi’6 lakes in India with fascinating myths about their origins3 types of people you should remove from your life, as per Gauranga DasMMA legend Conor McGregor’s Las Vegas mansion is a millions-worth property defined by world-class luxury, private elevator and Strip viewsThe 5 numbers cardiologists want every adult to know before it’s too lateChild behavior expert says these 5 common phrases parents say to their children can hurt them psychologically8 words that women hate from the core of their heart: Which one can YOU not standGetting married soon? 10 common questions women should ask themselves before tying the knot123Hot PicksDelhi Restaurant FireLauren FryerAbhishek BanerjeeLos Angeles Airport DetentionAuston MatthewsSean StricklandKylian MbappeNuclear Scientist DeathNHL Trade RumorsTop TrendingDelhi Malviya Nagar Restaurant FireBengaluru MurderK AnnamalaiAnnapurna BhandarFirhad HakimDK ShivakumarKerala MonsoonAbhishek BanerjeeMamata BanerjeeKoyambedu Baw Brawl

‘What If Orders Are Palpably Dishonest?’ ‘What If Orders Are Palpably Dishonest?’ New Delhi: In a surprise public acknowledgement of corruption in judiciary, a Supreme Court bench led by CJI Surya Kant on Wednesday said there is a growing trend of judges passing a series of orders for extraneous considerations on the eve of their retirements. While hearing a petition filed by a Madhya Pradesh principal district judge challenging his suspension 10 days prior to retirement, allegedly because of two judicial orders passed by him, the bench of CJI Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said, “Petitioner just before retirement started hitting sixes. It is an unfortunate trend. I do not want to elaborate on it.”Senior advocate Vipin Sanghi, appearing for the judicial officer, said he had an impressive career with very good rating in annual confidential reports. He was to superannuate on Nov 30 but was suspended on Nov 19, ostensibly because of two judicial orders. “How can an officer be suspended for judicial orders which can be appealed against and rectified by higher judiciary?” asked Sanghi. The bench said, “Disciplinary proceedings cannot be initiated against a judicial officer for passing orders which are erroneous. He cannot be suspended for this. But if the orders are palpably dishonest?” SC takes exception to seeking info on suspension through RTI applications The judicial officer was to retire on Nov 30. SC on Nov 20 directed the MP govt to postpone the retirement by one year as it had increased the retirement age of state employees to 62 years. The judicial officer would now retire on Nov 30, 2026. “The judicial officer did not know, when he passed those two orders, that his retirement age had been increased by one year. There is a growing trend of judges passing so many orders just before retirement,” the CJI said. The bench asked Sanghi as to why the judicial officer did not approach HC to challenge the suspension. Sanghi said that since it was a full court decision, the judicial officer thought it would be better to move SC for a fair hearing. The bench said, “There are so many instances when full court decisions have been set aside by HCs on the judicial side.” The bench also took exception to the judicial officer seeking grounds for his suspension through RTI applications. “He could have submitted a representation in this regard. It is not expected of a senior judicial officer to resort to the RTI route to get information. We see no ground to entertain the petition. The petitioner can make a representation to the HC for recall of the suspension order. The HC would decide his representation in four weeks,” the bench said.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideos’Vande Mataram’ Chants Echo As Indian Diaspora Welcomes PM Modi In Oman’India-Oman FTA To Open Major Opportunities Across Key Sectors’: Commerce Minister Piyush GoyalBangladesh Leader’s Seven Sisters Remark Triggers Diplomatic Row, India Summons Envoy Issues WarningBusiness Leaders See Major Growth Potential In India-Oman Ties As PM Modi Visits Muscat‘Might Never See Him Again’: Imran Khan’s Sons Claim ‘Psychological Torture’ In Pak’s Adiala JailDelhi Pollution: China Shares Playbook On How To Fix Air Quality Amid Politics Over AccountabilityExplained: The ₹30 Crore Film Deal That Led To Bollywood Director Vikram Bhatt And His Wife’s ArrestIndia Strengthens Maritime Dominance As Second MH-60R Squadron Joins Indian Navy At INS HansaViksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill Explained: Education Reform Or A Quiet Erosion Of FederalismNational Herald Case: Kharge Alleges ED Misuse, BJP Strikes Back With ‘Most Corrupt Family’ Dig123PhotostoriesRob Reiner, Zubeen Garg, Matthew Perry: Mysterious celebrity deaths that sparked murder investigationsBollywood book adaptations from Devdas, Maqbool, Badlapur that shine on screenWhat to gift a fitness enthusiast for Christmas 2025Belly fat isn’t just about weight: Doctor explains how it is linked to fatty liver and diabetes5 ways to add peanut butter to daily breakfast8 types of winter laddoos to keep you warmCatching the vibe of the ‘grey’ season: 5 animals that are grey in colourChristmas 2025: How to make moist Eggless Chocolate Cake in a pressure cooker5-minute brain workouts that work: Memory-boosting moves for all agesJohn Abraham birthday special: ‘Dhoom’, ‘Force’, ‘The Diplomat’, films with career-defining roles that made him Bollywood’s ultimate action star to watch on OTT platforms123Hot PicksBomb Threat AhmedabadPark Medi World sharesPunjab election result 2025Gold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays DecemberBank Holidays DecemberTop TrendingTaylor Swift WeddingJosh Jacobs InjuryMarvin Harrison JrWho is Quinn EwersPatrick MahomesTravis KelceChris PaulEthan McLeodStephen Curry NBA ContractNBA Cup Banner

Mumbai, Jun 22 (ANI): Shiv Sena UBT MPs joined Shiv Sena in the presence of Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde, in Mumbai on Monday. (ANI Video Grab) NEW DELHI: After six rebel Lok Sabha MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) formally joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, senior Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam on Monday alleged that another MP was poised to desert Uddhav Thackeray but backed out after Shinde rejected his demand for a cabinet berth.Speaking to reporters in Mumbai shortly after Shinde inducted the Sena (UBT) dissidents, Kadam remarked: “A seventh MP has also signed in the paper but he demanded a cabinet post to which Eknath Shinde declined. He went back after that.”While refusing to identify the individual, Kadam offered a clue, suggesting that the individual sits next to Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. Three of his close aides now constitute Sena (UBT)’s entire Lok Sabha contingent — Arvind Sawant, Anil Desai and Rajabhau Waje. The party’s lone Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Raut, is also among Thackeray’s closest confidants.Meanwhile, Kadam also recalled the June 2022 split in the then-undivided Shiv Sena. The rebellion, led by Shinde, also brought down the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government in Maharashtra.”Back in 2022, there were 40 MLAs, including 10 ministers, and Eknath Shinde pledged that he would bring them all back. He succeeded in securing the support of 60 MLAs, and now six MPs have joined us to support development in their respective constituencies. I welcome them,” he said.In February 2023, the Election Commission recognised Shinde’s faction as the official Shiv Sena, while the Uddhav camp was subsequently renamed Shiv Sena (UBT).Shinde on Monday inducted Sanjay Haribhau Jadhav, Bhausaheb Rajaram Wakchaure, Omprakash Bhupalsingh Nimbalkar, Sanjay Dina Patil, Sanjay Uttamrao Deshmukh and Nagesh Bapurao Patil Ashtikar into the Shiv Sena, ending days of speculation and political manoeuvring. The Maharashtra deputy chief minister subsequently declared “Operation Tiger” a success.(with ANI inputs)Get the latest India news and live updates. . New Delhi: Citing rise in cases of involvement of younger juveniles in heinous crimes, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari introduced a private member’s bill in LS seeking amendments to Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 to bring down the age for juveniles who have committed heinous crimes from 16 years to 14. This will allow such cases to be open for assessment by Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) for transfer to children’s court for trial as an adult under the criminal justice system. The statement of objects of Tiwari’s bill introduced in LS on Dec 5 states Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, was enacted to provide a child-friendly approach to the adjudication and disposition of matters involving children in conflict with the law. “However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in involvement of juveniles aged 14-16 years in serious and heinous crimes, including rape, murder, and other violent offences,” it said.“The existing provision of treating all children below the age of 18 years as juveniles, regardless of the gravity of the offence, has led to concerns about adequacy of the justice system in addressing such crimes. This amendment seeks to strike a balance between the principles of rehabilitation and accountability, while ensuring that the rights and welfare of children are protected,” it said.
