Rahul Gandhi NEW DELHI: Congress’s Rahul Gandhi led the opposition in slamming the fuel price hike by saying that people are paying for the mistakes of Modi govt, as he warned about more such shocks in the coming future. Also, Congress accused Modi govt of pushing the country’s jewellery sector towards “lockdown” through PM’s appeal that people avoid gold purchases, and through sharp increase in import duty on gold and silver.Rahul said, “The Rs 3 shock has already arrived, the rest of the recovery will be done in instalments.”CPM politburo condemned the move saying the hike would impose a greater burden on the people already reeling under inflation, unemployment and stagnant wages.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the Centre is now seeking from the US an extension of 30-day waiver to buy Russian oil.Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a swipe at PM Modi’s call to conserve fuel, saying that the bicycle, SP’s official election symbol, was the only alternative.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideos’Not An Iota Of Truth’: PM Modi Rubbishes Report Of Restriction On Foreign Travel28 Hostages From Kuki, Naga Communities Held By Armed Groups Released In Manipur’I Am Sorry To…’: Shashi Tharoor To Skip VD Satheesan’s Swearing-In As Kerala CMNEET UG 2026 Re-Exam On June 21, Computer-Based Test Format From Next Year: Education MinisterOman To Gujarat: India Fast-Tracks Deep-Sea Gas Pipeline Project Amid Hormuz CrisisCJI Surya Kant Makes Strong Remarks During Senior Advocate HearingKerala CM-Designate Satheesan Hits Back At BJP Over IUML, Secularism DebateFormer RAW Chief Flags Security Risks Over PM Modi’s Convoy DownsizingTMC MP Derek O’Brien Slams Centre After Petrol-Diesel Hike, Targets Modi Government’Bhojshala Complex Is A Temple, Hindus Have Right To Worship’: MP High Court123PhotostoriesKishwer Merchant recalls her father’s reaction to her interfaith marriage and age gap with Suyyash Rai; reacts to her son being trolled for wearing a skull capLauki vs Tori: Which has more nutrition for summer and 5 interesting ways to eat themAncient Kashmiri beauty secrets that are becoming popular again in IndiaFrom transparent bodies to underground lives: 5 bizarre frogs you’ve probably never heard of8 modern TV unit designs to instantly upgrade your living roomPersonality test: Mango, litchi, watermelon? NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday pushed back at criticism over rise in fuel prices, saying India had effected the smallest increase among major economies and managed to shield consumers from global volatility since the West Asia conflict broke out before rolling out a calibrated hike.”This matters because fuel prices do not remain confined to petrol pumps. They affect transport costs, food inflation, manufacturing, logistics and household budgets. Containing fuel volatility is also about containing inflation,” BJP said, suggesting that the relatively small increase will not seriously impact inflation. The 3.2% increase in petrol price and 3.4% rise in diesel rate came even as major economies saw jump in fuel prices, BJP’s Amit Malviya said. The rise in petrol price was 44.5%, 9.7% and 19.2% in the US, Japan and the UK respectively, he said, listing the higher rise in other nations as well. . NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday took exception to “petty politicians” of the Shiv Sena (UBT) accusing the court of delaying adjudication of petitions challenging non-disqualification of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Election Commission’s decision to declare them as the real ‘Shiv Sena’ and said it is the UBT camp’s counsel who had sought adjournment many a time.Advocate Rohit Sharma, acting as per the instructions in the cause-list of the SC, requested a bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi to fix a date for final hearing on the three-year-old petition by Uddhav Thackeray against Eknath Shinde, who rebelled with other Sena legislators and formed a govt with the BJP, as well as a two-year-old petition challenging the Speaker’s order rejecting petitions seeking disqualification of the rebel Sena MLAs.Though the bench accepted Sharma’s request and assured that the “Shiv Sena matters” would be taken up for final hearing soon, the CJI said, “Stop your people from going to the media and accuse the SC of delaying adjudication of the petitions. On one hand you seek adjournment of hearing and on the other you accuse the SC of delay. These irresponsible statements should not be made.”“I am issuing a warning. I am not going to tolerate these things. Why do these petty politicians keep making accusations against SC,” the CJI asked. Senior advocate Devadatt Kamat said he was ready to argue the case on Friday itself or any day suitable to the court. The CJI said, “The court often sits much beyond 4 pm to hear cases. It is not as if we are sitting idle.
