PM Narendra Modi (File – agencies) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday in the 127th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Chhath Puja, describing the festival as a “beautiful example” of India’s social unity.Speaking during his monthly programme, he said, “Chhath reflects the deep unity of culture, nature and society,” and emphasized that it brings together people from all sections of society.The Prime Minister also lauded the armed forces for their success in Operation Sindoor, saying the achievement “filled the countrymen with pride.” He praised government efforts in anti-Naxal operations, noting, “lamps of joy were lit even in those areas where the darkness of Maoist terror once prevailed.”Highlighting innovative environmental efforts, PM Modi spoke about the ‘Garbage Café’ initiative in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, where citizens can exchange plastic waste for meals. “Garbage Cafes are being operated in Ambikapur. These are cafes where you get a full meal in exchange for bringing plastic waste. If a person brings one kilogram of plastic, they receive lunch or dinner, and if someone brings half a kilogram of plastic, they get breakfast. These cafes are run by the Ambikapur municipal corporation,” he said.He also praised the Gujarat forest department for expanding mangrove plantations along the Dholera coast near Ahmedabad, adding, “Five years ago, teams from the forest department had started the work of planting Mangroves near Ahmedabad in Dholera, and today, Mangroves have spread across three and a half thousand hectares on the Dholera coast.”The Prime Minister encouraged the adoption of Indian dog breeds, noting their adaptability and the steps taken by forces such as the BSF and CRPF to increase their numbers. “About five years ago, I had discussed the Indian breed of dogs in this program… BSF and CRPF have increased the number of Indian breed dogs in their squads,” he said.Remembering Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ahead of his 150th birth anniversary on October 31, PM Modi described him as “one of the greatest luminaries of the nation in modern times,” highlighting Patel’s focus on cleanliness, good governance, and national unity. “I urge all of you to participate in the ‘Run For Unity’ being organised across the country on October 31, and not just participate alone, but along with others,” he said.He also paid tribute to India’s national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, noting the 150th year of its celebration starting November 7. “‘Vande Mataram’- this single word carries so many emotions, so much energy,” Modi said. “The Vedas laid the foundation of Indian civilization with the sentiment expressed as Earth is the mother and I am her child. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, by penning ‘Vande Mataram’, enshrined that same relationship between the motherland and its children as a mantra in the universe of emotions.”Modi further paid homage to tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda, ahead of Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, saying, “I respectfully pay my homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The work he did for the country’s independence and for the rights of the tribal community is unparalleled.”PM also touched on the renewed energy with which people are pursuing Sanskrit in different facets. “Unfortunately, during the period of slavery and even after independence, Sanskrit has continuously been subjected to neglect. Because of this, the attraction towards Sanskrit among the younger generations has also been diminishing. But friends, now that the times are changing, the times for Sanskrit are also changing. The world of culture and social media has given Sanskrit a new lease of life. These days, many young people are doing very interesting work with regard to Sanskrit,” he added.He went on to mention a young creator for his fondess of Sanskrit, “A young Content Creator – brother Yash Salunke. Yash’s special thing is that he is both a Content Creator and a cricketer. PM Narendra Modi (File – agencies) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday in the 127th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Chhath Puja, describing the festival as a “beautiful example” of India’s social unity.Speaking during his monthly programme, he said, “Chhath reflects the deep unity of culture, nature and society,” and emphasized that it brings together people from all sections of society.The Prime Minister also lauded the armed forces for their success in Operation Sindoor, saying the achievement “filled the countrymen with pride.” He praised government efforts in anti-Naxal operations, noting, “lamps of joy were lit even in those areas where the darkness of Maoist terror once prevailed.”Highlighting innovative environmental efforts, PM Modi spoke about the ‘Garbage Café’ initiative in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, where citizens can exchange plastic waste for meals. “Garbage Cafes are being operated in Ambikapur. These are cafes where you get a full meal in exchange for bringing plastic waste. If a person brings one kilogram of plastic, they receive lunch or dinner, and if someone brings half a kilogram of plastic, they get breakfast. These cafes are run by the Ambikapur municipal corporation,” he said.He also praised the Gujarat forest department for expanding mangrove plantations along the Dholera coast near Ahmedabad, adding, “Five years ago, teams from the forest department had started the work of planting Mangroves near Ahmedabad in Dholera, and today, Mangroves have spread across three and a half thousand hectares on the Dholera coast.”The Prime Minister encouraged the adoption of Indian dog breeds, noting their adaptability and the steps taken by forces such as the BSF and CRPF to increase their numbers. “About five years ago, I had discussed the Indian breed of dogs in this program… BSF and CRPF have increased the number of Indian breed dogs in their squads,” he said.Remembering Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ahead of his 150th birth anniversary on October 31, PM Modi described him as “one of the greatest luminaries of the nation in modern times,” highlighting Patel’s focus on cleanliness, good governance, and national unity. “I urge all of you to participate in the ‘Run For Unity’ being organised across the country on October 31, and not just participate alone, but along with others,” he said.He also paid tribute to India’s national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, noting the 150th year of its celebration starting November 7. “‘Vande Mataram’- this single word carries so many emotions, so much energy,” Modi said. “The Vedas laid the foundation of Indian civilization with the sentiment expressed as Earth is the mother and I am her child. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, by penning ‘Vande Mataram’, enshrined that same relationship between the motherland and its children as a mantra in the universe of emotions.”Modi further paid homage to tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda, ahead of Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, saying, “I respectfully pay my homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The work he did for the country’s independence and for the rights of the tribal community is unparalleled.”PM also touched on the renewed energy with which people are pursuing Sanskrit in different facets. “Unfortunately, during the period of slavery and even after independence, Sanskrit has continuously been subjected to neglect. Because of this, the attraction towards Sanskrit among the younger generations has also been diminishing. But friends, now that the times are changing, the times for Sanskrit are also changing. The world of culture and social media has given Sanskrit a new lease of life. These days, many young people are doing very interesting work with regard to Sanskrit,” he added.He went on to mention a young creator for his fondess of Sanskrit, “A young Content Creator – brother Yash Salunke. Yash’s special thing is that he is both a Content Creator and a cricketer. On this sacred occasion, symbolising devotion and discipline, there is a tradition of partaking in sattvic prasad along with kheer prepared with jaggery. The plan relies on “big-ticket” projects, state-wise targets and performance-linked funding. The quality measures include clearer accreditation bands, so that students can compare programmes easily and programmes that remain weak face closure; a national apprenticeship and placement exchange that will be integrated with campuses; and Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) targets being set for each state. Financing will separate capital spending (buildings, labs, servers) from operational spending (faculty, maintenance, software), with officials indicating a tilt towards results-based grants, wherein funds are released after verification of milestones. As per the internal report accessed by TOI, stronger institutions will support nearby campuses through mentor-mentee clusters, sharing teachers, labs and lesson plans to help lift outcomes quickly. Funding will be tied to performance on learning and placements and not just inputs such as infrastructure. “Clear goals, clear owners, clear data – that’s the approach,” a senior official with education ministrysaid. To connect education with employment, the National Apprenticeship and Placement Exchange will be integrated with campus ERPs, so employers can post openings and students can apply, track interviews and receive offers on one platform. “Degrees must connect to jobs. A single exchange stitched into campus ERPs will cut friction for students and recruiters,” the official added. The NueGo bus involved in accident HYDERABAD: Just a day after a private bus fire charred to death several passengers in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool, another mishap involving a private bus was reported on the outskirts of Hyderabad Saturday afternoon. A NueGo electric bus going to Guntur in Andhra Pradesh from Telangana’s Miyapur, overturned near Pedda Amberpet toll plaza around 12.35pm, after the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving rashly, police said. The bus was carrying six passengers, two drivers, and a conductor at the time of the accident. The vehicle hit the median before overturning, leaving several occupants injured. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and no traffic disruption was reported in the area, police said. “All the victims suffered minor injuries, and they are out of danger,” Abdullapurmet inspector V Ashok Reddy said. Police have registered a case under sections 125(a) (for causing hurt by an act endangering human life), and 281 (rash driving on a public way) of BNS. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Political tensions escalated in Kashmir after the BJP secured a Rajya Sabha seat with support from legislators outside the party. While National Conference leadership denied cross-voting allegations, party president Farooq Abdullah revealed the BJP had approached them for a seat prior to the polls, a claim refuted by Sajad Lone. Omar Abdullah SRINAGAR: Political tempers are running high in Kashmir Valley after BJP won one of the four Rajya Sabha seats in J&K with support from four legislators outside the party on Friday. The National Conference (NC) leadership exonerated its legislators and allies of cross-voting charges, although party president Farooq Abdullah created a flutter by revealing that BJP had approached them before the polls.Chief minister Omar Abdullah said NC could not manage a clean sweep as it was betrayed, but he refused to disclose the names of those who cross-voted.“One shouldn’t have any complaints with a 3-1 score. We tried for a 4-nil victory, but we were ditched at the last moment by some people,” Omar said on Saturday.“Everyone knows the names of those who betrayed us and voted for BJP, I don’t want to repeat them. But, their act is regrettable,” Omar said, adding it was not appropriate to reveal the names.Giving a clean chit to his party members, the CM said, “I am satisfied that not a single NC vote went elsewhere. All NC legislators showed their polling slips to their party agent.”Omar thanked Congress and “some other colleagues” for their support, but did not name Membooba Mufti-led PDP, thus keep it in the circle of doubt. He also accused People’s Conference (PC) neta Sajad Lone of helping BJP by abstaining from voting, and “now lecturing us like a professor”.The retort came after Lone alleged that “all the cross-voting was done by NC”. “Omar Abdullah is the biggest supporter of BJP, bigger than their own leaders. The Rajya Sabha polls were a fixed match between BJP and NC. It was pre-decided that NC would take three seats and BJP one,” the PC chief told reporters.BJP on Friday sprang a surprise in J&K’s first RS elections since the abrogation of Article 370, winning a seat with 32 votes — four more than its strength of 28 in the assembly.Farooq added more spice to the political debate, claiming that BJP had approached NC before the polls. Addressing a presser alongside the elected NC candidates, he said: “People will say whatever they have to say, but we didn’t gift any seat to BJP. They came to us ahead of the polls asking us for one seat. We refused and decided to fight it out.”Referring to Farooq’s statement, Lone said it was an admission that BJP and NC remained in touch. “That means a dialogue mechanism exists between the two parties. That means they had discussions about Rajya Sabha (polls)… Isn’t that what we have been saying all along — fixed match,” he said.Jailed AAP legislator Mehraj Malik issued a statement saying he voted for NC in “the larger interests of J&K” despite no one from the party approaching him, but was “now being questioned by some of their leaders”. Political tensions escalated in Kashmir after the BJP secured a Rajya Sabha seat with support from legislators outside the party. While National Conference leadership denied cross-voting allegations, party president Farooq Abdullah revealed the BJP had approached them for a seat prior to the polls, a claim refuted by Sajad Lone. The National Conference (NC) leadership exonerated its legislators and allies of cross-voting charges, although party president Farooq Abdullah created a flutter by revealing that BJP had approached them before the polls.Chief minister Omar Abdullah said NC could not manage a clean sweep as it was betrayed, but he refused to disclose the names of those who cross-voted.“One shouldn’t have any complaints with a 3-1 score. We tried for a 4-nil victory, but we were ditched at the last moment by some people,” Omar said on Saturday.“Everyone knows the names of those who betrayed us and voted for BJP, I don’t want to repeat them. But, their act is regrettable,” Omar said, adding it was not appropriate to reveal the names.Giving a clean chit to his party members, the CM said, “I am satisfied that not a single NC vote went elsewhere. All NC legislators showed their polling slips to their party agent.”Omar thanked Congress and “some other colleagues” for their support, but did not name Membooba Mufti-led PDP, thus keep it in the circle of doubt. He also accused People’s Conference (PC) neta Sajad Lone of helping BJP by abstaining from voting, and “now lecturing us like a professor”.The retort came after Lone alleged that “all the cross-voting was done by NC”. “Omar Abdullah is the biggest supporter of BJP, bigger than their own leaders. The Rajya Sabha polls were a fixed match between BJP and NC. It was pre-decided that NC would take three seats and BJP one,” the PC chief told reporters.BJP on Friday sprang a surprise in J&K’s first RS elections since the abrogation of Article 370, winning a seat with 32 votes — four more than its strength of 28 in the assembly.Farooq added more spice to the political debate, claiming that BJP had approached NC before the polls. Addressing a presser alongside the elected NC candidates, he said: “People will say whatever they have to say, but we didn’t gift any seat to BJP. They came to us ahead of the polls asking us for one seat. We refused and decided to fight it out.”Referring to Farooq’s statement, Lone said it was an admission that BJP and NC remained in touch. “That means a dialogue mechanism exists between the two parties. That means they had discussions about Rajya Sabha (polls)… Isn’t that what we have been saying all along — fixed match,” he said.Jailed AAP legislator Mehraj Malik issued a statement saying he voted for NC in “the larger interests of J&K” despite no one from the party approaching him, but was “now being questioned by some of their leaders”. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar NEW DELHI: INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday vowed to make Bihar a leading state by attracting investments and setting up factories, if the opposition coalition is voted to power.Addressing an election rally in Gogri in Khagaria, Yadav said, “We need to make Bihar number one, for which there is a need to bring investments, promote education and ensure proper health facilities.”‘Bihar Got Not Even 1% of Gujarat’s Share’: Tejashwi Yadav Explodes at PM ModiHe also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, accusing them of “hijacking” CM Nitish Kumar, who he claimed, “is incapable of leading Bihar anymore.”Yadav said Shah had claimed factories could not be set up in Bihar due to a lack of land. “We will set up factories in the state and bring investment to take Bihar on the development trajectory,” he added, as quoted by PTI.At another rally in the Alauli assembly segment, Yadav promised, “If the INDIA bloc is voted to power in Bihar, a law will be enacted within 20 days to provide government jobs to every family, and the recruitments would be done in 20 months. Can’t see the pain of unemployed degree holders. NEW DELHI: India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, on Friday called upon Pakistan to end the “grave and ongoing human rights violations” in areas “illegally occupied by it,” particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate on ‘The United Nations Organization: Looking into the Future’, Harish reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir “has been, is, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India.”“We call upon Pakistan to end the grave and ongoing human rights violations in the areas illegally occupied by it, where the population is in open revolt against Pakistan’s military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources,” Ambassador Harish said during the session held on the occasion of the 80th UN Day.The envoy asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir “exercise their fundamental rights in accordance with India’s time-tested democratic traditions and constitutional framework,” adding that such concepts are “alien to Pakistan.”“Let me emphasise that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. He went abroad only to build our future, not harm anyone,” his mother said, in barely a whisper. Gurbaksh said the family’s modest home was built through loans.
