RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat defended the organization’s status as a body of individuals, questioning the need for registration with the British government and highlighting post-independence recognition. He also addressed the ‘Love Jihad’ concept, attributing its perceived success to a failure in imparting Hindu values to children, while cautioning against generalizing about the Muslim community. RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat NEW DELHI: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday addressed criticisms about the organisation’s registration status, stating that RSS is officially recognised as a body of individuals, after Congress questioned its operations.”RSS was established in 1925, so do you expect us to have registered with the British government?” Bhagwat responded during a RSS-organised question and answer session. He clarified that post-independence, the Government of India did not mandate registration, and RSS is officially categorised and recognised as a body of individuals. Bhagwat further noted that both the Income Tax department and courts have acknowledged RSS as a body of individuals, granting them tax exemption. “We were banned thrice. So government has recognised us. If we were not there, whom did they ban?” Bhagwat pointed out.He further stated that many entities remain unregistered, citing “Even Hindu Dharma is not registered” as an example.Addressing allegations about flag preferences, Bhagwat explained that while saffron holds special significance in RSS as a Guru, they maintain deep respect for the Indian tricolour. “We always respect, offer tribute and protect our tricolour,” he affirmed. These statements followed Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent call for RSS ban. Additionally, his son and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge sought prohibition of RSS activities in government institutions and public spaces, questioning their registration details and funding sources.Support to political partiesBhagwat addressed various other topic included RSS’ political affiliation. On being asked why Sangha does not support any political party, he said, “We do not support any political party. We do not participate in vote politics, current politics, or election politics. Sangha is a work of uniting society and politics, but by nature, it is divisive. So we keep out of politics. We support policies, and especially now that we are a force, we will exert our force to support the right policy. Not individual, not a party, but policy. For example, we wanted to have Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. So our Swayamsevaks supported those who stood by its construction. BJP was there, but if Congress had supported that, our Swayamsevaks would have voted for that party also.”Further asserting his stance, he added, “We don’t have special affinity towards one party. There is no Sangh party. No party is ours, and all parties are ours because they are Bharatiya parties. We support Rashtraneeti, not Rajneeti. We do that publicly. We have our views, and we want to take this country in a particular direction. Those who will drive in that direction particularly, we will support them. We’ll ask the public to think about this and support them. Whatever the public does, it is their prerogative, but we will exert our strength in favour of the Rashtraneeti we feel proud of.”‘Love Jihad, how can that be?’ asks RSS chief BhagwatApart from the registration row, Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday also questioned “love Jihad”. “Love Jihad, how can that be? A girl or boy reared in our Hindu sanskaars as our own, blood of our blood, is led astray by someone outside due to petty attractions. That is our lack. Giving ‘sanskaars’ and ‘maryada’ to our children is our responsibility. We have faltered in it, and the result is the success of Love Jihad… When we see these activities, we bracket the entire Muslim society into one category. That is not good. We are Hindus. We do not think like that,” he said.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claims the BJP has stolen votes in Haryana and other states. He alleges a centralized plan involving PM Modi, Amit Shah, and the Election Commission. Gandhi presented data on fake voter entries and duplicate photos. The BJP dismissed the claims as baseless and an attempt to defame institutions. NEW DELHI: Congress leader and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has widened his charge of “vote theft”, alleging that the Haryana assembly polls were not an isolated case. Addressing reporters in Panarpani, Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, he claimed that the BJP used the same method in earlier elections as well, including in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.“After seeing the data that I also presented in a press conference about how vote theft took place in Haryana, I think the BJP has done the same thing in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. We have all the evidence and will release it one by one – what we have shown so far is only a little,” he said.PM Modi’s ‘65-Volt Jhatka’ Jibe Rocks Bihar Rally, Mocks Rahul’s Pond Dive As ‘Doobne Ki Practice’Rahul said there was an effort to institutionalise “vote chori”, adding, “There is an attack on democracy and the Constitution of B. R. Ambedkar. PM Modi, Amit Shah, and CEC Gyanesh Kumar are directly involved in it.” He claimed the Congress will release further evidence in phases and asked the youth to “resist this wholesale theft of democracy”.What Rahul Gandhi alleged earlier in his press conferenceOn 5 November, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference where he presented what he called “The H-files”, accusing the BJP of “stealing” the 2024 Haryana assembly election. He cited electoral roll data to claim that 25 lakh entries were fake and the Election Commission had “colluded” with the BJP to ensure its victory. He alleged a “centralised plan” and pointed to a ‘Brazilian model’ whose photograph was used 22 times in 10 booths under names such as “Seema, Sweety and Saraswati”.Also read: Brazilian ‘model’ reacts after Rahul Gandhi’s Haryana voter-fraud allegationThe congress leader said, “One in eight voters in Haryana are fake and despite that the Congress loses by 22,779 votes which was the difference in eight seats.” Claiming 1,24,177 fake pictures were used, he argued, “You can understand that there was no election in Haryana. There was a theft (of elections) in Haryana and it is very clear who is responsible for the theft.”According to him, “Sarkar Chori” had destroyed democracy and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was the latest weapon. Rahul alleged that the Election Commission and the BJP ran “Operation Sarkar Chori” to convert a Congress victory into a loss. “Why is the Election Commission not removing duplicates? It is because if it does so, it would result in fair elections and it doesn’t want fair elections,” he said. He also accused the CEC of lying when he said “house number zero” was used for people without formal addresses.LIVE: #VoteChori Press Conference – The H Files | Rahul GandhiHe told reporters: “Every single opposition party understands this, they can see this…If the voter list is a lie, there is no democracy. My role as an opposition leader is to let you know the real world that you are living in.” Asked about approaching the courts, Rahul Gandhi responded, “The Supreme Court, the highest court in the country, is watching… it is not hidden.”How the BJP reactedThe BJP dismissed Rahul’s claims as “false and baseless”, accusing him of defaming India’s institutions to divert attention from political setbacks. Union minister Kiren Rijiju said he was “raising questions on the Election Commission to hide his failures and defame the country’s democracy.” He accused Gandhi of trying to “instigate the GenZ”, insisting such efforts would not succeed. “The young generation is firmly standing by Modiji,” he said.Rijiju also questioned why the Lok Sabha LoP had not filed complaints before the Election Commission or courts, arguing, “But they do not have to file any appeal before the EC or approach the court. He (Gandhi) will just call a press conference, give a presentation made by someone else and run away,” he said and asked, “Will democracy function in such a manner?”Defence minister Rajnath Singh too criticised Rahul Gandhi during a rally in Bihar, saying, “If Rahul Gandhi thinks that the votes of the people of Bihar are being stolen, why does he not file a written complaint with the Election Commission?” Singh accused Gandhi of misleading voters and claimed the Congress was resorting to “lies” for political success. What the EC saidElection Commission (EC) officials told news agency PTI that Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of voter manipulation were “unfounded.” They said no appeals were filed against the electoral rolls and no instances of multiple voting were reported. Responding to Gandhi’s claim that 25 lakh entries were “fake” and that the polls were “stolen,” officials questioned why Congress booth-level agents failed to raise objections during the revision process. The attached properties are mostly located across Kerala. The total value of properties attached in the case so far is Rs 129 crore. The top brass of PFI is being investigated by NIA and ED for its role in sponsoring terror activities, particularly after it was found operating a terror training camp in Kerala’s Narath, for which a special NIA court convicted 21 of its activists in 2016. “The history of origin of PFI can be traced back to the ban of Jamaat-e-Islami after demolition of Babri Masjid… At that time, properties of Jamaat-e-Islami were sealed under UA(P)A.
