India is projected to generate about 11 million tonnes of solar waste by 2047, largely from crystalline-silicon modules, according to two studies published on Thursday. Managing this waste would require nearly 300 recycling plants across the country and an investment of around Rs 4,200 crore, said the studies by Delhi-based think tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The studies also said that recovering and reusing materials from discarded solar panels could create a Rs 3,700-crore market opportunity by 2047. If this potential is realised, recovering valuable materials such as silicon, copper, aluminium and silver from solar waste could meet 38 per cent of the sector’s manufacturing inputs by 2047 and avoid 37 million tonnes of carbon emissions by replacing virgin resources with recycled ones. India’s solar module recycling market is currently at a very early stage, with only a few commercial recyclers operating. The CEEW studies provide India’s first comprehensive blueprint for building a domestic solar recycling ecosystem that supports both clean energy and manufacturing self-reliance. Rishabh Jain, Fellow, CEEW, said, “India’s solar revolution can power a new green industrial opportunity. By embedding circularity into our clean energy systems, we can recover critical minerals, strengthen supply chains and create green jobs while turning potential waste into lasting value. Building this circular economy is most important for India’s resilient and responsible growth.” The CEEW studies also said that solar recycling in a formal setup remains unviable today, with recyclers facing losses of Rs 10,000-12,000 per tonne. The biggest operational expense is buying back waste modules, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of the total (around Rs 600 per panel), followed by processing, collection and disposal costs. For recycling to become profitable, modules would need to be priced below Rs 330 or recyclers supported through EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) certificate trading, tax incentives and R&D investments in efficient recovery of silicon and silver, the studies said. Akanksha Tyagi, Programme Lead, CEEW, said, “Solar recycling can be the bridge between India’s clean energy and manufacturing ambitions. Beyond managing waste, it’s an opportunity to innovate by designing panels for easier recovery, improving material purity and creating new value chains around critical minerals. “Introducing EPR targets, creating demand for circular products, improving data transparency and designing for recyclability could turn India’s solar waste challenge into a green industry opportunity,” she said. To enable large-scale adoption, the CEEW studies recommend EPR targets for collection and recovery under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, led by the Environment Ministry, and a Circular Solar Taskforce under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to align policy, finance and industry action. They also propose a centralised solar inventory to identify waste hotspots and urge producers to share material data and design modules for easy disassembly.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideos’RJD Put Katta To Congress’ Head’: PM Modi Slams Mahagathbandhan In Bihar RallyIndia Shocked As UAE Frees Mahadev Scam Accused, Cites No Extradition Request Amid Paper TrailBihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha Accuses RJD MLC Of Drunken Chaos, Faces Off Amid Voting In LakhisaraiDelhi’s Fake ‘Professor’ and Team Pulled Off a ₹50 Crore Money Heist Inspired by Netflix Crime Drama’Can’t Think Of Another Trade Talk…’: Piyush Goyal, Todd McClay Comment On India–New Zealand FTAINS Ikshak Commissioned With 80% Indigenous Tech, New Hydrographic Survey Vessel Joins Indian NavyDonald Trump’s Trade Weapon Tested: US Supreme Court Weighs Limits of Emergency Powers, Authority’BIG ZERO’: PM Modi Takes Massive Dig At RJD, Cong’s ‘Jungle Raj’ Report Card for Bihar in ArariaIndians Trapped In Myanmar’s KK Park Cyber Scam Hub Finally Being Repatriated By Air ForceSri Lankan Opposition Leader Backs India’s UNSC Seat, Calls It Recognition of Global Power Shift123Photostories9 beautiful and unique baby girl names that begin with letter ‘R’How to spot a fake person: 5 clear signs you shouldn’t miss, as per psychology14 Days with Chia Seeds: Harvard doctor explains the benefits and best way to eat themHow to control uric acid: 5 morning habits to keep it in check naturallyHow to grow juicy Plums in your balcony garden; step-by-step guidelinesElle Fanning to Kareena Kapoor: 5 best celebrity looks of the dayAdding these two cooking essentials may help in making less oily and non-greasy PoorisBollywood tales of change and courage that define coming of ageFrom feeling nervous to wearing matching outfits; Yuvika Chaudhary and Prince Narula share moments as they reveal daughter Ekleen’s faceBigg Boss Tamil 9 contestants’ salary: Here’s how much money VJ Paaru, Divya, Diwakar, Kani and others charging per week123Hot PicksStock market holidayBank HolidayBihar Election 2025Gold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays NovemberBank Holidays NovemberTop TrendingOumar KaneBlue Jays Wives Emotional WivesGhazala Firdous HashmiFake Online TradingMLB World Series ChampionsMath Problem Solving StrategiesBengaluru AirportSaudi Arabia Makkah Grand MosqueVanessa BryantCarolina Panthers

Amit Shah on Thursday took swipe at Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav, accusing them of supporting infiltrators and warning of a return to ‘jungle raj’ if the opposition wins. Shah asserted the BJP-NDA’s commitment to making Bihar ‘infiltrator-free’ and highlighted PM Modi’s decisive action against terrorism, contrasting it with past Congress governments. NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD chief Lalu Yadav, accusing them of “welcoming infiltrators” and of failing Bihar when in power.Addressing multiple election rallies in Bihar, Shah said the assembly polls are a fight to make the state “infiltrator-free,” and claimed that only the pairing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Nitish Kumar can prevent a return of “jungle raj.”Mocking the former Bihar CM and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Shah claimed, “PM Modi worked to establish the Makhana Board… Can Lalu chacha create a Makhana Board? Can Rahul do it? If they come to power, a ‘Ghuspatiya Board’ will be formed…” ‘Lalu & Rahul say welcome infiltrators’Shah further alleged that Lalu and Rahul were trying to clear the path for infiltrators, questioning whether such individuals should remain on Bihar’s voter rolls. He accused both leaders of opposing efforts to remove infiltrators from the state’s lists. He asserted the BJP and NDA would not only cleanse Benipatti and Madhubani but would “root out” infiltrators across the country.”Should infiltrators be removed from Bihar’s voter list or not? Lalu and Rahul say, ‘welcome the infiltrators.’ To protect them, Lalu’s son (RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav) and Rahul go on yatras. Lalu and Rahul, listen carefully, the BJP and NDA government will not only remove infiltrators from Benipatti and Madhubani, but will root them out from across the entire country,” he alleged.’14th Nov Lalu & Rahul’s parties will be wiped out’Shah claimed, “Today, I’ve come to my thirty-third destination. I’ve toured all of Bihar. Do you want to know what the results will be on the 14th?”He continued that, “On 14th November, during the counting of votes, Lalu and Rahul’s parties will be wiped out…Once again, NDA government will be formed. But remember, if you mistakenly press any button other than the lotus (BJP symbol) or the arrow (JD-U symbol), then ‘Jungle Raj’ will return, just in a new disguise and new clothes….”‘PM to build a defence corridor in Mithila’He also attacked the previous Congress government over handling of terrorism, alleging lax action then, while praising recent operations under PM Modi. The Union minister said, “During the Congress regime, under the Sonia-Manmohan regime, Pakistani terrorists would come, detonate bombs and leave. No action would be taken against them. Instead, they were treated to biryani. Just recently, our men were killed in Pahalgam. PM Modi, in just 20 days, launched Operation Sindoor, in which we entered Pakistan’s home and wiped out the terrorists… Now, if terrorists fire bullets, they will be answered with shells…”Shah further announced plans for a defence-manufacturing corridor in Mithila, saying “PM Modi is going to build a defence corridor in Mithila. Tension flared in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur as women attempted to offer prayers at a disputed mausoleum on Kartik Purnima. Police intervened, leading to a clash when some women tried to breach barricades. The group eventually performed prayers from a nearby lane, while authorities maintain the site’s status is sub judice. . NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur became tense on Wednesday evening when a group of women attempted to offer puja near a disputed mausoleum, leading to a clash with police. Police told news agency PTI that around 20 women carrying diyas and prayer materials reached the barricaded Maangi mausoleum site in Abunagar around 6 pm on the occasion of Kartik Purnima. A few women allegedly tried to remove or climb over the barricades when stopped by security personnel. This led to a heated argument with station house officer Tarkeshwar Rai. When they were unable to reach the disputed spot, the group performed their prayers and aarti from a nearby lane facing the structure. Videos showing the women arguing with police and performing puja from a distance have surfaced online.Earlier, BJP district president Mukhlal Pal had said that he and members of Hindu organisations planned to offer prayers at the site, pointing to carvings of a trident and lotus inside the structure as signs of its Hindu origin. The site, associated with Nawab Abu Samad, has been the subject of dispute for months, with Hindu groups claiming it was once a temple dedicated to ‘Thakur ji’ and had a Shivling. Videos from that time purportedly showed vandalism and hoisting of a saffron flag at the site. The site has been under strict security since August, when Hindu organisations demanded the right to pray there.Authorities have maintained that the matter is sub judice and have issued orders to prevent any activity that could disturb public order.A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station under Sections 121(1), 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, based on a complaint from constable Manju Singh. The women, on the other hand, accused the police of misbehaviour and of preventing them from offering prayers.Additional superintendent of police Mahendra Pal Singh said the situation is currently peaceful, and extra police have been deployed to maintain calm.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Prime Minister Modi fiercely attacked the RJD and Congress in Bihar, accusing them of protecting infiltrators. He highlighted the NDA’s development initiatives under Nitish Kumar, contrasting it with the RJD’s ‘jungle raj’ era of zero development. Modi praised the enthusiastic voter turnout in the first phase of polling, urging citizens to safeguard Bihar’s progress. NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday claimed that a rift was brewing between the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), saying the alliance partners would “tear each other’s hair out” after the Bihar Assembly elections. Speaking at an election rally in Araria, PM Modi also accused the opposition parties of protecting infiltrators and misleading the public for political gain. “A very major challenge stands before these efforts of ours. That challenge is of the infiltrators. The NDA government is engaged with complete honesty in identifying each and every infiltrator and deporting them from the country. But these RJD and Congress people are busy protecting the infiltrators. They spread all sorts of lies to save these infiltrators, and take out political tours to mislead the people,” PM Modi said.PM Modi Warns of Cong, RJD’s ‘Dangerous Plot’ to Alter Demographic Balance in Bihar Border Districts He said the Congress-RJD alliance was bound to implode under the weight of internal differences. “The Congress and RJD will soon be fighting each other; they will tear each other’s hair out. Such is their partnership — made for convenience, not conviction,” he remarked, drawing sharp reactions from opposition supporters present at the venue. Highlighting the NDA government’s development record, PM Modi credited chief minister Nitish Kumar for transforming Bihar’s progress trajectory. “In the NDA government, Nitish ji has worked tirelessly to pull Bihar out of jungle raj. After the double-engine government was formed in 2014, Bihar’s development has gained new momentum. IIT has opened in Patna, IIM has opened in Bodh Gaya, AIIMS has opened in Patna, the work on AIIMS Darbhanga is progressing rapidly, now Bihar also has a National Law University, IIIT is also there in Bhagalpur, and 4 central universities have also been established in Bihar,” he said. Reiterating his “jungleraj” jibe, PM Modi said the RJD’s 15-year rule from 1990 to 2005 had brought “zero” progress to the state. “The report card of development that took place in Bihar during the Jungle Raj era is zero. From 1990 to 2005, for 15 years, this Jungle Raj destroyed Bihar. In the name of running the government back then, you were simply looted. That is why I say, remember the figure zero. The number of expressways, flyovers built in the 15 years of Jungle Raj in Bihar is zero,” he said. He added that those in power during that time considered themselves rulers, while the people were subservient. “Those who presided over the Jungle Raj used to call themselves your mai-baap and thought of themselves as emperors. But Modi is different — for me, the people are my mai-baap, my guiding force. You are my masters, you hold the remote control,” he said. Praising the strong voter turnout in the first phase of polling, the Prime Minister commended the enthusiasm of citizens. “Today marks the first phase of voting to make Bihar a developed state. Beautiful pictures are pouring in from across Bihar on social media. From early morning, long queues have formed at polling booths. Mothers, sisters, and daughters are casting their votes in large numbers. The youth of Bihar, too, are showing unprecedented enthusiasm. I congratulate all voters and appeal to everyone to come out and exercise their franchise,” PM Modi said. Reflecting on Bihar’s political evolution, PM Modi urged people to safeguard the state’s progress. “Today, I am telling you about the power of your vote. Your grandparents, maternal grandparents’ one vote had made Bihar the land of social justice. But then, the 90s decade came, and RJD’s jungle raj attacked Bihar. Jungle Raj means pistol, cruelty, corruption and misgovernance. These became the identity of jungle raj, and this became Bihar’s misfortune. Your parents’ dreams were crushed,” he said. Expressing confidence in the NDA’s victory, PM Modi said the state was echoing one slogan: “Phir ek baar NDA sarkaar, phir ek baar sushasan ki sarkaar.” “Behind this sentiment lie the hopes of mothers and sisters and the dreams of the youth. Remember this Modi’s guarantee is that your dream is Modi’s resolve,” he said. According to Election Commission data, Bihar recorded a voter turnout of 27.65% in the first four hours of polling. Begusarai reported the highest turnout at 30.37%, while Patna saw 23.71% till 11 am. Other districts, including Lakhisarai (30.32%), Gopalganj (30.04%), and Saharsa (29.68%), also reported strong participation. After addressing the rally in Araria, PM Modi was scheduled to hold another public meeting in Bhagalpur later in the day.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Where does she come from?” he asked, before asserting that the woman was not Indian but a Brazilian model whose stock photograph had been misused. The Congress also posted the image on X, saying, “A Brazilian citizen, Matheus Ferroro’s photo, has been used 22 times in Haryana under different names — from Sweety to Saraswati.”Rahul alleged that 1 in 8 voters in Haryana are fake, claiming large-scale voter fraud and pointing to unexplained differences between postal and booth votes. “We have crystal clear proof that 25 lakh voters (in Haryana) are fake, that they either don’t exist or they are duplicate or are designed in a way for anybody to vote…1 in 8 voters in Haryana are fake, that’s 12.5%.”Rahul claimed that a plan was set in motion to turn a predicted Congress win into a loss and also urged young voters to pay attention, citing claims backed by strong evidence. “All (exit) polls pointed to a Congress victory (in Haryana). The other thing that was surprising to us was that, for the first time in Haryana’s electoral history, postal votes differed from the actual voting. This had never happened in Haryana before. So, we thought, ‘Let’s go into the details.’ When I first saw this information, I struggled to believe it. I was in shock. I told the team to cross-check multiple times,” he said.”I want the young people, GenZ of India to understand this clearly because this is about your future…I am questioning the EC and the democratic process in India, so I am doing it with 100% proof. We are pretty sure that a plan was put in motion to convert Congress’ landslide victory into a loss…Please note the smile on his face (CM Nayab Saini) and notice the ‘vyavastha’ that he is talking about. This is 2 days after election when everybody is saying that the Congress is sweeping the elections,” he said.Rahul’s Hydrogen bomb is just a small cracker: BJPHaryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini hit back, dismissing the charges, saying, “Rahul Gandhi is doing the work of misleading the nation. The way Congress has become agenda-less, they are misleading the nation by spreading lies.”Union minister Kiren Rijiju also ridiculed Rahul’s allegations and said, “Why doesn’t his atom bomb ever explode? Rahul Gandhi says that the atom bomb is going to explode, but why doesn’t his atom bomb ever explode? He doesn’t take any subject seriously and even says that a hydrogen bomb will explode.”Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis says, “What Rahul Gandhi called a ‘Hydrogen bomb’ was not a bomb at all. It was just a small cracker. It had no noise or energy. Rahul Gandhi is now pursuing an agenda to not let democracy function properly. Rahul Gandhi’s agenda matches the agenda of external forces. All these external forces are striving to erode faith in India’s democracy and the Indian Constitution. These external forces are creating a false atmosphere and narrative that calls into question the various institutions created by the Indian Constitution. Rahul Gandhi is fueling this narrative. What could be more tragic than this? While Rahul Gandhi attempts to view our army through caste lines, I don’t understand who he is working for. He raises a question mark on the army, the Constitution and the system established by the Constitution’s institutions. Photo/Agencies NEW DELHI: BJP on Wednesday dismissed Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft allegations in the Haryana assembly polls last year as baseless, claiming that he had resorted to a diversionary tactic realising that the opposition was staring at a crushing defeat in the Bihar elections.Union minister Kiren Rijiju accused Rahul of trying to incite Gen Z against the govt, asserting the young population is with PM Narendra Modi as India continues to notch up high economic growth under him. Rijiju said Rahul’s “baseless” vote theft charges were borne out of his defeatist mentality and were devoid of any merit, while his cabinet colleague and Bihar poll in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan added, “Rahul Gandhi has become a research centre of lies and false narratives.” “Nobody takes him seriously. But he cannot escape the responsibility for another failure despite all these ploys,” Pradhan said, adding the presser was a gimmick aimed at shielding himself against the opposition’s impending Bihar defeat.’Your Future Is Being Stolen’: Rahul Gandhi’s Bold Message to India’s Gen Z For Democratic Change”The truth is he (Rahul) wants to wash his hands of the impending defeat by resorting to such ploys. He knows the Mahagathbandhan is in tatters and people are continuously rejecting them.” Rijiju said several Congress netas, including Kumari Selja, have blamed internal reasons for its defeat in Haryana. Citing Rahul’s claim that a woman voted 223 times in two booths, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya said it is “downright laughable” as it amounts to one vote being cast every three minutes, considering polling is conducted between 7 am to 6 pm. “And, apparently, no one – not security personnel, not polling officers verifying IDs – noticed this superwoman showing up every three minutes across two booths. Never mind the time it takes to queue up, get verified, and hop from one location to another…,” Malviya said on X.
