Bombay HC Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Tuesday adjourned to 2046 a defamation suit for Rs 20 crore against managing committee members of a south Mumbai housing society by a senior citizen, now aged almost 90, and her daughter. “I do not wish to state anything further except that this matter should not be taken up for the next 20 years,” said Justice Jitendra Jain, sitting singly, when an attempt at a settlement failed and she insisted on pursuing the suit.The dispute allegedly arose about a decade ago.On April 20, the HC requested both sides to try and settle, saying the matter could be worked out with defendants giving an unconditional apology. On Tuesday, when the matter came up as scheduled, the erstwhile committee members, represented by ALMT Legal, said they would unconditionally apologise without prejudice.However, the woman, almost 90, still insisted on going ahead with the legal battle, the HC order, a one-pager, observed on Tuesday.”This is one of the matters where the ego fight between the parties at their fag end of their life clogs the system, which prevents the court from taking up the matters which really requires more priority,” the high court said.The dispute was over alleged collection of funds towards repair and maintenance of the society. BJP leaders celebrate landslide win in Gujarat local body polls Ahmedabad: The governing BJP yet again established its supremacy in Gujarat on Tuesday, sweeping all 15 municipal corporations and 78 of the 84 municipalities, reiterating its complete dominance in cities and towns.It also performed strongly in rural regions, winning 33 of the 34 district panchayats and 220 of the 260 taluka panchayats. AAP won the Narmada district panchayat, while Congress took the Khadia seat in Ahmedabad, a BJP stronghold for 46 years.BJP swept major cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar cities while making debuting in nine newly formed municipal corporations – Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Porbandar and Surendranagar. Of the total 1,044 seats in 15 cities, BJP won a staggering 937, Congress 95, and AAP and others got six seats each. Most of AAP’s gains as a debutant in Surat city in 2021, when it won 27 seats out of 120, were reversed as its tally fell to just four seats in a single ward.In the towns, BJP won 78 of the 84 municipalities for which polls were held while Congress won six. BJP leaders celebrate landslide win in Gujarat local body polls Ahmedabad: The governing BJP yet again established its supremacy in Gujarat on Tuesday, sweeping all 15 municipal corporations and 78 of the 84 municipalities, reiterating its complete dominance in cities and towns.It also performed strongly in rural regions, winning 33 of the 34 district panchayats and 220 of the 260 taluka panchayats. AAP won the Narmada district panchayat, while Congress took the Khadia seat in Ahmedabad, a BJP stronghold for 46 years.BJP swept major cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar cities while making debuting in nine newly formed municipal corporations – Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Porbandar and Surendranagar. Of the total 1,044 seats in 15 cities, BJP won a staggering 937, Congress 95, and AAP and others got six seats each. Most of AAP’s gains as a debutant in Surat city in 2021, when it won 27 seats out of 120, were reversed as its tally fell to just four seats in a single ward.In the towns, BJP won 78 of the 84 municipalities for which polls were held while Congress won six.
