JAMMU: Alert Army personnel foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jhangar, in Rajouri’s Nowshera, and shot dead one Pakistani terrorist on Tuesday.Acting on intelligence inputs, soldiers detected the movement of two terrorists along the LoC around 3pm, the Army’s White Knights Corps stated in an X post. “Responding with swift and calibrated combat action, alert troops engaged swiftly, successfully foiling the infiltration attempt. In the ensuing engagement, one Pakistan-sponsored terrorist was eliminated, effectively denying any breach of the LoC,” the post added. Now part of the Tata Group, the airline used this ground time its aircraft were suddenly getting to expedite their retrofit. As a result, the no frills airline will have a uniform all-economy fleet and seats with chargers much earlier than originally envisaged.“We used to have 360 weekly flights to the Gulf. After Feb 28, this number dropped significantly and we decided to utilise the downtime to accelerate the cabin retrofit programme across our Boeing 737-8 fleet,” said airline sources.The airline got about two months before airlines started to progressively restore Gulf services from late April. AI Express is currently operating 285 weekly flights to the region.AI Express had inducted 50 white-tail B737-8s (made for some other airline/s as per their cabin layout specifications but which could not take delivery) on an as is, where is basis from Boeing in the last two years before its own line-fit (as per AI Express specifications) deliveries began in Dec 2025. This led to the no frills airline having planes with first two rows with 2×2 seating as the original customer airline intended to have a business class on these planes.Since aircraft deliveries have been delayed post Covid due to supply chain constraints, AI Express took these planes as air traffic has boomed post 2022. The plan was to change the cabin layout to an all-economy seating gradually without taking planes out of service, needing flights to be cancelled. The US-Iran war gave it that moment earlier than expected.“We are retrofitting all out white-tail Boeing 737 MAX fleet to reset the guest experience. The retrofit is complete on five aircraft, with three currently undergoing that work. We are processing 3-4 aircraft a month. With acceleration now in effect, the target is 6-7 aircraft a month, with 14 aircraft completed by July 2026. Full fleet completion is targeted by March 2027,” said sources.The white-tail B737 MAX aircraft were inducted in seat configurations ranging from 162 to 178 seats. Upon completion of the retrofit programme, all aircraft will be standardised with a 189-seat configuration, “unlocking about 700 additional seats across the fleet, equivalent to adding 3.7 aircraft without any fleet expansion.”“The retrofit will also significantly enhance the onboard experience through the installation of new seats featuring USB-A and USB-C charging ports at every seat, while maintaining our all-economy cabin configuration,” they add.This work is happening across three AIESL facilities in Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The turnaround time is 10- 22 days depending on the aircraft configuration and other factors.AI Express fleet comprises of 53 Boeing 737-8 MAX, 26 Boeing 737 -800 NG, 12 A320ceo, 12 A320neo and 4 A321neo. “The A320 and B737 NG fleets are covered under a separate cabin perfect programme to align both fleets with current brand standards and improving guest experience,” sources say.Get the latest India news and live updates. (Photo credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday unveiled the Operational Guidelines on National Ambulance Services (NAS), 2026, prescribing national standards for ambulance deployment, staffing, equipment and monitoring to strengthen emergency medical transport across the country.The guidelines, released by Union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda during the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW), seek to standardise ambulance services and strengthen pre-hospital emergency care through uniform operational standards across all states and Union Territories.Nadda said the framework aims to enhance the quality, accessibility and efficiency of pre-hospital emergency care through standardised ambulance infrastructure, staffing, equipment, response protocols, digital integration and quality assurance mechanisms.The guidelines prescribe detailed operational norms covering the entire ambulance ecosystem, including ambulance categorisation, population-based deployment, human resource requirements, equipment standards, medicines, infection prevention and control, vehicle maintenance, performance monitoring and grievance redressal mechanisms. The objective is to establish uniform standards that ensure quality, accessibility, efficiency and responsiveness of ambulance services while enabling timely patient stabilisation and referral.A major focus of the guidelines is the establishment of Integrated Command and Dispatch Centres (ICDCs) equipped with GPS-enabled ambulance tracking, structured triage systems, call logging, standardised dispatch protocols and real-time performance dashboards. They also encourage the progressive integration of ambulance services with the unified emergency response number 112, enabling faster, better coordinated emergency response.The guidelines mandate compliance with AIS-125 standards for all ambulances to enhance the safety, quality and standardisation of emergency medical vehicles. They also prescribe training and skill standards for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), recognising their role in delivering pre-hospital emergency care.To strengthen referral systems, the framework proposes GIS-enabled mapping of health facilities, referral centres, ambulance base locations, accident-prone and high-risk areas, bed availability and critical care readiness. File photo NEW DELHI : With India’s public services, examinations and welfare systems moving deeper into digital platforms, the Centre has said cybersecurity is now among its “highest priority” areas, even as officials cautioned that no digital system can be declared permanently secure.The word of caution comes against the backdrop of recent cyber concerns around public digital assets and govt’s temporary action against Telegram during the NEET-UG reexamination, when the platform was restricted and its message-editing feature was disabled for a limited period to prevent fraudsters from fabricating paper leak claims.“When you have so much digital infrastructure, data gets centralised and the risk of disruption through cyberattacks also rises,” a govt official said. Cybersecurity had to be built into systems from the design stage and could not be treated as an afterthought, the official added.Govt also indicated that messaging platforms would be held responsible if new features created room for fraud. Asked about security concerns over WhatsApp’s proposed username feature, an official said, “It is WhatsApp that has to worry, not us.”Officials said any misuse, whether through usernames, edited messages, fake groups or impersonation, would invite action similar to that taken against Telegram during NEET. “Platforms must ensure their architecture is not used to create mischief. If it is, the response will be calibrated but firm,” an official said.A WhatsApp spokesperson said the proposed username feature is designed to enhance privacy, not reduce security. The company said it has built safeguards to detect impersonation and abuse, limits how many new people an account can contact through usernames, blocks repeated attempts to guess usernames, and reserves high-value usernames, including those of public figures, govt entities and celebrities, to prevent misuse.Govt officials, however, said platforms would be judged by outcomes, not assurances.MeitY officials said govt is deploying both human and technological resources to address cyber vulnerabilities but stressed that weak passwords, careless device use and poor endpoint security remain major risks.“I will never say we are 100% cyber secure.
