. NEW DELHI: A seventh India-flagged LPG tanker, Green Sanvi, crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. So far, six vessels carrying LPG have reached Indian ports after crossing the Strait since the war broke out in West Asia.Now 17 Indian ships remain stranded west of the Strait of Hormuz, including two — Green Asha and Jag Vikram — loaded with LPG. Sumit Ritolia, lead analyst at global analytics firm Kpler, said such mid-voyage destination changes are not unprecedented with Iranian crude and highlight the increasing sensitivity of trade flows to financial terms and counterparty risk.“The shift appears to be payment-related, with sellers tightening terms, moving away from the earlier 30-60 day credit window towards upfront or near-term settlement,” he said. “If the payment issues are resolved, the cargo could still make its way to an Indian refinery,” experts said.This underscores how commercial terms are becoming as critical as logistics in determining Iranian crude flows to countries other than China, Ritolia added.As per MarineTraffic data, Ping Shun, an Eswatini-flagged crude tanker, had earlier indicated that it was heading to the Vadinar facility of Deendayal Port at Kandla in Gujarat. The tanker, which is said to be carrying six lakh barrels of crude, is now signalling Dongying in China as its destination.It is, however, not confirmed whether the destination signalled by the ship’s automatic identification transponder is final and will not change again during transit. NEW DELHI: Congress termed the convening of a “special session of Parliament” on April 16-18 a violation of the model code of conduct, accusing the BJP of trying to use the women’s quota bill to influence elections in Tamil Nadu and Bengal, which go to polls later this month.AICC spokesman Jairam Ramesh said Congress opposes any “change in relative strength of states” in the Lok Sabha, criticising a “hasty proposal” for a “proportionate” increase in parliamentary seats. He said such a move would permanently disadvantage southern states like TN and Kerala vis-à-vis northern states, while also hurting north-eastern states, north-western states like Punjab, and smaller states. Ramesh said there have been informal inputs that the Modi government is planning a new delimitation law with a 50% increase in seats of all states in the Lok Sabha and assemblies.Quoting Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, Ramesh said seats in UP could rise to 120 from 80, while Kerala’s could increase to 30 from 20. The earlier gap of 60 seats would widen to 90, the Congress neta argued.“The opposition will take a joint stand, and the government’s strategy of dividing political parties will not succeed,” he said. NEW DELHI: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited chairman DK Sunil on Thursday said American firm General Electric has assured the delivery of 20 F404 engines by Dec and that HAL expects to receive a sixth GE engine for the LCA Tejas Mark 1A project by April-end.It is learnt that HAL is “imposing contractual penalties on GE” for delays in the supply of engines for the LCA Tejas jet and the penalties are being imposed on GE Aerospace as per the contract for 99 engines. In Feb 2021, the defence ministry had sealed a Rs 48,000-crore deal with HAL for the procurement of 83 Tejas Mk-1A for IAF.The ministry in Sept last year sealed another deal worth Rs 62,370 crore with HAL to procure 97 Tejas MK-1A light combat aircraft for IAF.On whether India is interested in buying Russia’s fifth-generation stealth fighter jet Su-57, the HAL chairman told the media, “I think presentations have been made regarding the Su-57 to the Air Force team by the Russian team regarding the capabilities of the aircraft. We are awaiting the Russian quotation about the investment. Then we will approach the Air Force that these are the kind of numbers required to produce these aircraft and these are the timelines.”K Sunil said the entire fleet of 34 Tejas will fly most likely from April 8 as the glitch found on board the aircraft’s software has been resolved. “All the Tejas jets are set to fly again from next Wednesday,” he said. NEW DELHI: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited chairman DK Sunil on Thursday said American firm General Electric has assured the delivery of 20 F404 engines by Dec and that HAL expects to receive a sixth GE engine for the LCA Tejas Mark 1A project by April-end.It is learnt that HAL is “imposing contractual penalties on GE” for delays in the supply of engines for the LCA Tejas jet and the penalties are being imposed on GE Aerospace as per the contract for 99 engines. In Feb 2021, the defence ministry had sealed a Rs 48,000-crore deal with HAL for the procurement of 83 Tejas Mk-1A for IAF.The ministry in Sept last year sealed another deal worth Rs 62,370 crore with HAL to procure 97 Tejas MK-1A light combat aircraft for IAF.On whether India is interested in buying Russia’s fifth-generation stealth fighter jet Su-57, the HAL chairman told the media, “I think presentations have been made regarding the Su-57 to the Air Force team by the Russian team regarding the capabilities of the aircraft. We are awaiting the Russian quotation about the investment. Then we will approach the Air Force that these are the kind of numbers required to produce these aircraft and these are the timelines.”K Sunil said the entire fleet of 34 Tejas will fly most likely from April 8 as the glitch found on board the aircraft’s software has been resolved. “All the Tejas jets are set to fly again from next Wednesday,” he said.
