NEW DELHI: After introducing biometric verification through Facial Recognition System (FRS) for beneficiaries registered with anganwadis who receive ‘take home rations’ (THR), the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) is working on a module to “universalise” FRS by extending it to ‘hot cooked meals’ served to children who visit these centres.Under FRS, photo capturing of beneficiaries and e-KYC based on Aadhaar system during registration is done. For children, a parent or any guardian undergoes the process and not the child since Bal-Aadhaar (age 0-5 years) does not have biometrics. A fresh photo at THR distribution stage is matched with the already stored verified image of the beneficiary.According to a statement from the ministry, as of Dec 31, 2025, out of 4.73 crore beneficiaries eligible for THR, a total of 4.51 crore (91.38%) have completed their eKYC and face matching. In Dec, 2.79 crore (52.68%) eligible beneficiaries received THR using FRS.FRS-based verification to ensure last-mile tracking of THR delivery in anganwadis was made mandatory for existing beneficiaries from July 1 last year. The ministry, in a communication to states, had also said that FRS would be introduced at the stage of registration of all new beneficiaries under the supplementary nutrition programme from Aug 1 last year.WCD minister Annapurna Devi on Thursday said that overall Aadhaar verification of around 99% beneficiaries registered on the Poshan Tracker has been done. Mandatory biometric verification through facial authentication was also introduced from May last year for all new enrolments under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.“To ensure that actual genuine beneficiaries get the benefits, we are planning to universalise Facial Recognition System-based verification and will extend it to hot cooked meals at anganwadis. What do you call this? That is like their own party office. Now, in sheer desperation, they have stooped to tampering with EVMs. But Bengal is not Maharashtra, Delhi, or Bihar. We will not sit silently and watch them loot our democracy,” it said.The development comes a day after the second and final phase of polling in West Bengal, which recorded a voter turnout of 92.67 per cent. Now, in sheer desperation, they have stooped to tampering with EVMs,” it said in the post.The party also claimed that senior leaders had begun a sit-in protest. “Our leaders Smt. @DrShashiPanja and Shri @KunalGhoshAgain have already begun a dharna outside Netaji Indoor Stadium. Screengrab source: X/@AITCofficial NEW DELHI: The All India Trinamool Congress on Thursday levelled sharp allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission , accusing them of “gross electoral fraud” and “murder of democracy in broad daylight” over alleged irregularities involving ballot boxes.In a post on X, the party shared CCTV footage and claimed it showed a few persons opening ballot boxes without the presence of authorised party representatives accusing the BJP of tampering ahead of counting, which is scheduled to take place on May 4.“This is the murder of democracy in broad daylight. CCTV footage has exposed how @BJP4India, in active collusion with the @ECISVEEP, is opening ballot boxes without the presence of any relevant party stakeholders. This is gross electoral fraud being committed openly with the full knowledge and protection of the Election Commission,” the party said.The TMC further alleged that multiple attempts were being made to influence the electoral process. “They have tried every dirty trick, name deletion, voter intimidation, Central Force terror, cash flooding, and failed miserably. Now, in sheer desperation, they have stooped to tampering with EVMs,” it said in the post.The party also claimed that senior leaders had begun a sit-in protest. “Our leaders Smt. @DrShashiPanja and Shri @KunalGhoshAgain have already begun a dharna outside Netaji Indoor Stadium. The winner, Shivpratap Prajapati, 34 years old, clocked an impressive chip time of 32:01. Running for the past 10 years, he began with fitness as his primary motivation, later developing a deeper interest after participating in a school competition. While he was initially preparing for the Army, the lockdown shifted his path, leading him to pursue running more seriously. He now trains with the goal of representing India at the Commonwealth Games in 2028.The first runner-up position was secured by Shubham Kumar, who finished with a chip time of 32:34. Kumar maintained a steady pace throughout, staying close to the leader and delivering a strong, competitive performance.The second runner-up was Anil Jindal, 31 years old, who clocked a chip time of 34:50. Running for eight years, Jindal, an Army professional, focuses on long-distance races and has been actively participating in marathons. He recently competed in the Boston Marathon and aims to complete marathons across the world.At the Times Internet Half Marathon, performances like these reflected both ambition and discipline.
