TRICHY: Tension prevailed for a while at Trichy international airport as a Dubai-bound Air India Express flight that took off from the airport here made an emergency landing on Monday evening. The Air India Express flight (No IXO61) was supposed to depart from Trichy airport as per the flight schedule by 12.45 pm. However, the flight’s departure was delayed, and the aircraft took off only by 1.55 pm. Around 160 passengers were said to be on board the aircraft. Soon after the take-off, the flight crew noticed a technical snag in the aircraft. For about two hours, the flight was going around the air space over Trichy and Pudukottai to dump fuel before making an emergency landing in Trichy. While the normal duration of the air journey between Trichy and Dubai is four hours and 45 minutes, relatives and friends of the passengers awaiting the flight’s arrival at Dubai airport used online flight tracking platforms. Only then, they realised that the aircraft had not left Trichy. Meanwhile, a section of passengers onboard who are relatives of the former Nagapattinam MLA Thamimum Ansari informed the latter about the flight doing rounds due to a technical snag. At 3.53pm, the Air India Express flight, a narrow body Boeing 738 aircraft, made an emergency landing at Trichy airport. The NDA is receiving unanimous support from all sections of society. Representative image (IANS) Pithoragarh: A 55-year-old manager of Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) gas agency in Champawat district died on Sunday evening after he returned from work. His colleagues at the gas agency claimed that he consumed a poisonous substance as he could not cope with the work pressure due to the prevailing circumstances in the country because of the conflict in West Asia. However, family members denied this and said the cause of death will be known after the postmortem report comes. On Monday, some KMVN workers went on a strike and did not distribute cooking gas in a few places in Kumaon. Colleagues claimed victim Dayal Singh Rawat had recently told his friend that “he was crumbling, physically and mentally, due to too much work pressure and he was facing heat from consumers and the administration alike.”SP Rekha Yadav said an investigation will be conducted into his death. “Rawat’s family members did not say anything about consumption of poison,” said Yadav. Rawat’s brother-in-law Rajendra Singh Bora told TOI on Sunday that he looked normal when he came home from work. “He called me around 6.30 pm Sunday, informing me that he was going to the hospital to get his maternal uncle, who had undergone gall blader surgery, discharged from hospital. The two came back after one hour. Rawat soon complained of discomfort and asked his family to take him to hospital, where he died,” said Bora.Champawat police station in-charge B S Bisht said, “The district hospital informed us about Rawat’s death. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem, the report of which is awaited.”Usha Rana, gas manager, KMVN Pithoragarh, said Rawat’s death was not due to work pressure, though she accepted that gas distribution workers are under pressure due to the prevailing situation. Image: IANS T’puram: EC on Monday sought a report from Thiruvananthapuram district collector over BJP’s Kattakkada candidate P K Krishnadas’s controversial speech saying the victory of LDF or UDF would promote ‘love jihad’ in Kerala. EC has also sought legal advice on the matter.At an election rally inaugurated by Union home minister Amit Shah, Krishnadas alleged that LDF and UDF were hand-in-glove with Social Democratic Party of India and Jamaat-e-Islami, and that votes in favour of either front would lead to widespread incidents of ‘love jihad’. He further alleged that JEI or SDPI would control the govt if UDF or LDF came to office.Krishnadas alleged that pro-Pakistan extremist organisations would actively promote ‘love jihad’. “Hindu and Christian girls would be trapped in ‘love jihad’. These elements would then use them for anti-national activities,” he said.Stressing that CPM and Congress were one and the same, he said, “Votes cast in favour of Congress or CPM would lead to ‘love jihad’.
