Proposed bank strike deferred after talks between bank body and unions

The proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30 has been deferred following a meeting between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) on Sunday night, news agency ANI reported. The development comes after the government had taken steps to keep banks functioning on Sunday, ahead of the proposed strike.

Strike was to begin on September 28

The UFBU had called the three-day strike over several demands, with five-day banking being a key issue. The unions had also sought improvements in pension benefits, a uniform dearness allowance formula for pensioners and an option for employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS) to shift to the old pension scheme. The unions had earlier said they could reconsider the strike if there was concrete progress on the demand for a five-day banking week.
