Anushka Sharma has joined global stars including Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift on a list of the most-followed WAGs in sport. The actor, who is married to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, is the only Indian and the only cricket wife to feature among the top five women on Vantix’s list, which also includes singers, actors, socialites and other prominent personalities.The actor, features among the top five on the list alongside global names from music, entertainment, fashion and sport. Anushka is placed fourth among the most-followed “Wives And Girlfriends (WAGs)” in sport. Kim Kardashian, who is identified in the ranking as the ‘partner’ of Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, tops the list with 343 million followers. Singer Taylor Swift, who is married to NFL star Travis Kelce, is second with 272 million followers, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s wife, Georgina Rodriguez is third with 78.3 million followers.Rounding out the top five is Virginia Fonseca, partner of footballer Vinicius Junior, with 56.5 million followers. While there are several football WAGs on the list, Anushka was the sole representative of cricket.Vantix’s ranking comprises 22 individuals with a combined following of 1.21 billion. The publication noted that football has the highest number of representatives, with 11 women accounting for 341.3 million followers. American football, however, has the greatest combined reach, with five women collectively accounting for 376.5 million followers.Kim Kardashian single-handedly made up for Formula 1 representation, with her 343 million followers.While the WAG label originated largely around the partners of footballers and the celebrity culture surrounding them, the magazine notes “the same label can encompass pop stars, moguls, entrepreneurs, actors, creators, athletes and established cultural figures who arrive with audiences and identities of their own.”The report highlights that “the relationship is no longer necessarily the most defining thing about them.” Women featured on the list are not necessarily known only through their relationships with sports stars, but many have built their careers and audiences independently before their romances with their sport-star beaus.
