NEW DELHI: An Indian Air Force Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas crashed during a demonstration flight at the Dubai Air Show on Friday afternoon, sending thick black smoke rising from the crash site and shocking spectators. The HAL-manufactured fighter jet went down at approximately 2:10pm local time while performing aerial manoeuvres, according to officials.Multiple eyewitness videos showed the aircraft appearing to lose balance before nosediving and crashing at a distance from the spectator area. But here, all our guys are ready, and they will crush you.”Responding to the remarks, Patra questioned Reddy’s claim that he was unaware of Nitin Nabin’s identity. “Revanth Reddy, you are the chief minister of a state in India. You are a member of Congress, a well-known party. Do you know who the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), India’s largest political party, is? Mud and debris flows blocked several interior link roads, severing connectivity to multiple villages in the belt. Restoration work began after the situation improved later in the day, officials said.Meanwhile, inclement weather forced authorities to suspend the ongoing annual pilgrimages to Machhail Mata and Mindhal Mata shrines — which commenced on June 1 — in the mountainous Kishtwar district. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of pilgrims in view of incessant rainfall, slippery roads and the risk of shooting stones.Kishtwar administration, in an official advisory, urged devotees not to undertake the pilgrimages and to remain at home or other safe locations until further notice. Thursday’s yatras were also subject to fair weather conditions, it stated.Doda district administration urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and adhere to official advisories rather than relying on unverified social media posts — including reports of cloudbursts and other calamities — until connectivity was completely restored.“All social media users, electronic media channels, print media organisations, digital news platforms, and content creators are advised to verify all weather-related information before publishing, broadcasting, or sharing it. Mud and debris flows blocked several interior link roads, severing connectivity to multiple villages in the belt. Restoration work began after the situation improved later in the day, officials said.Meanwhile, inclement weather forced authorities to suspend the ongoing annual pilgrimages to Machhail Mata and Mindhal Mata shrines — which commenced on June 1 — in the mountainous Kishtwar district. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of pilgrims in view of incessant rainfall, slippery roads and the risk of shooting stones.Kishtwar administration, in an official advisory, urged devotees not to undertake the pilgrimages and to remain at home or other safe locations until further notice. Thursday’s yatras were also subject to fair weather conditions, it stated.Doda district administration urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and adhere to official advisories rather than relying on unverified social media posts — including reports of cloudbursts and other calamities — until connectivity was completely restored.“All social media users, electronic media channels, print media organisations, digital news platforms, and content creators are advised to verify all weather-related information before publishing, broadcasting, or sharing it. The panel met Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday NEW DELHI: The high-level committee tasked with studying demographic changes in the country, including those triggered by illegal immigration, informed home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday that it had finalised a detailed questionnaire to seek relevant information from the states and Union territories ahead of field visits, so as to make its on-the-spot analyses more meaningful and interactive. Making a courtesy call on Shah at his residence here, the committee led by Justice (Retd) Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar shared its decision to visit states/UTs that have witnessed a change in demographic patterns over the years, and gather first-hand, ground-level details from their respective govts and administrative machinery. The committee will be holding interactions with various ministries of the Central govt as well, to hear feedback on subjects and issues related to demographic changes. The home minister, while appreciating the strategy prepared by the high-level committee, directed home secretary Govind Mohan to extend all possible assistance, facilitation and resources to the Committee for its day-to-day working and also its spot visits. Shah requested the panel to compile and submit its recommendations at the earliest. These recommendations, going by the terms of reference of the committee notified in May, shall outline a permanent operational mechanism to identify, detain and deport illegal immigrants; an institutional system to strengthen border management and ensure population stabilisation; and a policy framework to enhance Centre-state coordination in matters related to illegal immigration and the resulting demographic imbalances. Apart from Justice Navlekar, the committee includes the census commissioner, retired IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra, ex-IPS officer Balaji Srivastava and economist Shamika Ravi. The high-level committee on demographic changes was set up in May 2026, following up on a suggestion made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 2025 Independence-Day speech. Its mandate is to scientifically assess the extent of demographic changes occurring in various parts of the country and the underlying factors including illegal immigration, abnormal settlement patterns and orchestrated migration. The panel has also been tasked with analysing the structural population shifts at the level of religious and social communities, particularly where they deviate from broader trends. The committee was asked to submit its report within one year, analysing the causes behind the demographic changes and laying down recommendations regarding appropriate policy, legislative, and administrative interventions. Representative image NEW DELHI: The UGC-NET paper meant to test sociology candidates has itself come under scrutiny, with aspirants alleging that the June 30 exam was riddled with spelling errors, garbled names of key thinkers, awkward Hindi translations and questions that appeared disconnected from the prescribed syllabus.Candidates alleged that names and terms central to sociology were mangled in the question paper: “Ritzer” appeared as “Putzer”, “social” as “oval”, “Parsons” as “Parsow”, “Ghurye” as “Ghunye”, “A R Desai” as “A K Desai” and “Nussbaum” as “Nusbaut”. They claimed the errors were not isolated typos but part of a larger problem of poor paper-setting and inadequate quality checks in a national eligibility examination conducted by NTA.Several candidates who appeared for the sociology paper alleged that the questions had spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, weak Hindi translations and confusing phrasing, making parts of the paper difficult to comprehend.Candidate Antara Chakrabarty took to X to allege that the paper had “crossed all limits of academic deceit and accountability”. She claimed the paper asked questions that appeared AI-generated and included “random thinkers and books” not associated with the syllabus.“Not even getting started on the irregularity of the paper asking AI-generated questions, random thinkers and books not even remotely associated with the syllabus provided. This is where the last nail in the coffin comes. 50% of the paper had terrible spelling errors and grammatically disastrous sentence formation,” she wrote.Listing the alleged errors, she added: “Thinkers like ‘Ritzer’ was replaced as ‘Putzer’, ‘social’ was given as ‘oval’, ‘Parsons’ as ‘Parsow’, ‘Ghurye’ as ‘Ghunye’, A R Desai as ‘A K Desai’, ‘Nussbaum’ as ‘Nusbaut’ and many more. The Hindi translation of the questions was framed as if translated by a 5-year-old. Students could not even understand the questions, let alone attempt them.”“Half the time went in literally making sense of what nonsense was scribbled in the name of a paper like NET, which is literally supposed to make you eligible for Asst Prof/PhD admissions. Is this some joke? Call the profs who framed this paper to sit and attempt,” she wrote.Another X user alleged that the paper was “filled with spelling errors, arbitrary questions, and the omission of many foundational sociological thinkers in favour of content that appeared outside the prescribed syllabus”.
