Priyanka Gandhi urges PM Modi to order FIR against those who “purified” Kharge’s Haldwani rally venue. NEW DELHI: Keeping up the pressure over the issue, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order an FIR against the persons who had committed the crime of “purification” of the rally venue in Haldwani where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had recently addressed a public meeting, reports Devbrat Chaudhary.The appeal to the PM came a day after Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference alleging the “purification” was the handiwork of BJP-RSS elements, and that a case should be lodged under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.Priyanka posted on X, “Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a rally in Haldwani, after which people from BJP-RSS ‘purified’ his stage. They also reaffirmed in the joint statement the importance of continued cooperation under the joint working group on counter-terrorism.India and Uzbekistan, which shares a border with Afghanistan, have shared concerns about radicalisation and influx of militant groups. For India, it’s important to work with Uzbekistan and other countries in the region to prevent Afghanistan from turning into a haven for terrorist groups, particularly like the LeT and JeM based in Pakistan. PM Modi expressed concern over the drug menace among India’s youth and urged content creators and influencers to campaign for a drug-free younger generation. NEW DELHI: Flagging the dangers of drug addiction and its impact on not just individuals but also families and society, PM Narendra Modi Sunday urged the youth to make “creative efforts” to strengthen campaigns against the menace, including through social media.“Can you come up with a powerful slogan for a drug-free India? Can our young musicians create songs that convey the message of a drug-free life? Can students and theatre groups write touching short plays that highlight the dangers of drugs while also showing the path to recovery? Our country has no shortage of excellent content creators. I urge them to create content in various languages that helps society in this endeavour,” Modi said in Mann Ki Baat, his monthly radio address. He urged young people and those in the creative field to share their work on social media using the relevant hashtag.“Often, creative efforts prove more impactful than formal campaigns. Let us all play our part in this noble mission to keep India’s youth away from drugs and free from addiction,” Modi said, while commending those who are spreading awareness and helping people struggling with addiction.PM also highlighted the economic opportunities opening up for women and girls in India, including in space sector, and the benefits of PM SVANidhi scheme, which provides subsidised loans to street vendors. He also lauded cleanliness initiatives undertaken by citizens across the country, including during Amarnath yatra.Referring to PM SVANidhi scheme, Modi said it was helping women street vendors expand their businesses, increase their incomes and improve their families’ financial prospects. “Women account for approximately 46% of beneficiaries of PM SVANidhi. India and Uzbekistan upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, set an annual trade target of billion and closed in on an agreement for uranium supply to India, as PM Narendra Modi held talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent.Modi announced that India would get into a long-term arrangement for supply of uranium from Uzbekistan, a major regional producer and exporter. Both sides agreed to establish a foreign minister-level coordination council to guide all aspects of cooperation under the elevated partnership.Following the talks that focused on expanding cooperation in defence and security, trade and investment, critical minerals, AI, agriculture and health, the two sides signed 11 MoUs. The areas covered included culture, education, mining, Ayurveda, tourism and restoration of Buddhist sites.PM Modi also underscored the need for zero tolerance against terrorism and extremism, saying a stronger India-Uzbekistan partnership will be a powerful force for peace, progress and prosperity in Central Asia.PM Modi and Mirziyoyev endorsed growing defence cooperation between the two countries, including through regular exchanges, capacity-building and joint activities, and expressed in a joint statement their commitment to address common security challenges by further strengthening such cooperation. Going forward, Modi said, both sides will promote direct linkages, co-production and co-development by the defence industries of both nations. “Close defence and security cooperation between our two countries reflects our deep mutual trust,” said the PM.Outlining an ambitious agenda for moving forward with “speed and tangible results” in this new phase of their partnership, the PM said both sides will also work systematically on market access, connectivity, banking and payment systems to achieve the target of billion of trade by 2030.“We will work together to boost win-win cooperation in infrastructure development.
