Micah Parsons cannot help the Green Bay Packers on the field yet. His NFL peers apparently did not need to see another snap to move him higher.Parsons landed at No. 8 in the 2026 NFL Top 100 on Wednesday, the highest placement of his five appearances on the player-voted list. The ranking comes eight months after a torn left ACL ended his first Packers season and with his 2026 return date still uncertain.

Why did Micah Parsons jump to No. 8 in the NFL Top 100 after tearing his ACL?

Parsons’ ranking has taken a sharp turn upward. He entered the list at No. 16 in 2022, climbed to No. 9 in 2023, fell to No. 17 in 2024 and dropped to No. 36 last year. Now, after an injury-shortened season, NFL players have put him eighth. The timing might look strange. The production does not.Dallas traded Parsons to Green Bay shortly before Week 1 of the 2025 season. He responded with 12.5 sacks and 27 quarterback hits across 14 games before suffering the ACL injury against the Denver Broncos on Dec. 14.That gave Parsons at least 12 sacks in each of his first five NFL seasons. According to the Packers, he became the first player to accomplish that since sacks became an official statistic in 1982. His 65 career sacks through five seasons also rank fifth all-time over that span, one behind Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas.Parsons earned his fourth All-Pro selection and fifth consecutive Pro Bowl selection for that work. The No. 8 spot also carries some weight inside Green Bay. Parsons is the first Packers player to crack the NFL Top 100’s top 10 since Aaron Rodgers ranked third in 2022. Safety Xavier McKinney, quarterback Jordan Love and running back Josh Jacobs also made this year’s list at Nos. 70, 72 and 74, respectively.Seven players remain above Parsons as of Aug. 26, with the NFL revealing one name each weekday through Sept. 4.So Parsons’ ranking is not a projection of what he might become after rehab. His peers voted on what he already showed before his knee gave out.Green Bay also saw what happened after losing him. The Packers finished the 2025 regular season with four consecutive losses before blowing a 21-3 halftime lead in a 31-27 NFC Wild Card loss to the Chicago Bears. That makes the next question far more important than where Parsons sits on a list.

When could Micah Parsons return for the Packers, and why does Week 6 matter?

Parsons has stopped short of promising a return date.Week 6, however, is sitting there for a reason. The Packers host the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field on Oct. 18, giving Parsons a potential return game against the franchise that drafted him No. 12 overall in 2021 and traded him four years later.Asked earlier this month whether playing that night was realistic, Parsons told reporters:“Yeah, I think it’s very realistic. We’ve got to do our part to make it possible. It’s not off the board but we’ve got to put the work in.”He became more cautious about the timeline during an Aug. 10 appearance on NFL Network.“That’s the most optimistic that I could be back. I could be later, there could be setbacks. Trying to integrate back into football is completely different than running on cones and ladders.”That distinction matters.Parsons underwent surgery in late December and has said his recovery comes with a firm timeline because his knee also required meniscus work. He told reporters in June that Green Bay follows a nine-month rule for his situation. The goal is to return able to finish the season, rather than simply reach the earliest available game. The Packers therefore enter 2026 knowing their highest-ranked player will not be available immediately. The NFL Top 100 vote delivered the other part of that equation Wednesday: when Parsons does return, the players who have to block him still view him as one of the eight best players in football.
