NEW DELHI: An AIIMS medical board that conducted a court-ordered second postmortem of Twisha Sharma has concluded that she died by suicidal hanging and it did not find injuries of medico-legal importance suggestive of assault or struggle.“It is a clear case of suicide and there are no injuries of medico-legal importance suggestive of any physical assault, resistance or struggle on the body of the deceased, Twisha, prior to death,” said Dr Sudhir Gupta, head of department of forensic medicine at AIIMS, in a report submitted to CBI in sealed cover in compliance with MP HC’s order. The 11-page opinion prepared by a five-member team, which examined the death of Twisha from a “suicide or murder” prism, stressed that forensic experts had examined the case from all angles, including the disputed ligature material allegedly used for hanging, including a gymnastics belt with a metal ring.‘Dispute over ligature material resolved’The AIIMS board reviewed available national and international scientific literature before arriving at its conclusion.Dr Gupta said the AIIMS board had resolved the dispute regarding the ligature material after examining available evidence. The board was constituted following a direction by HC ordering AIIMS to conduct a second postmortem examination, which was carried out on May 24, following which the board also visited the crime scene.Dr Gupta said the medical board deliberated on the case in detail and considered available national and international scientific literature for nearly a month before giving its final opinion.“It is a crystal-clear opinion for CBI and for the judiciary in the interest of truth and justice,” he said.
