‘Vishwanath and Sons’ vs ‘Jana Nayagan’ box office collections: Suriya’s film grows 45% on day 2; Vijay’s film earns Rs 196.15 crore in 24 days
Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ has shown a strong improvement at the box office on its second day. According to Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 22.25 crore in India on Day 2. This represents a 45.0% growth over its opening-day net collection of Rs 15.35 crore.The film recorded 59.0% overall occupancy across 5,157 shows on Saturday. Its first-day occupancy stood at 42.2% across 5,034 shows. The jump in collections indicates better audience turnout during the weekend.
Tamil and Telugu versions contribute strongly
The Tamil version of ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ collected Rs 13.75 crore on Day 2. It recorded 56.0% occupancy across 3,226 shows. The Telugu version performed even better in terms of occupancy.The Telugu version collected Rs 8.50 crore on Saturday. It recorded 64.0% occupancy across 1,931 shows. The overall India net collection for the film has now reached Rs 37.60 crore after two days.The Tamil version recorded an overall occupancy of 65.76% on Day 2. Its morning shows registered 40.46%, while afternoon, evening and night shows recorded 73.92%, 69.31% and 72.46%, respectively.The Telugu version recorded 76.12% overall occupancy. Morning shows stood at 55.83%, followed by 76.58% in the afternoon, 70.92% in the evening and 81.83% at night.
Kerala and Karnataka also add to collections
‘Vishwanath and Sons’ posted a strong state-wise gross on Saturday. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 9.50 crore, while Tamil Nadu added Rs 10.75 crore.Karnataka contributed Rs 3.25 crore, while Kerala added Rs 1.75 crore. The rest of India contributed Rs 48 lakhs. The total state-wise gross collection for Day 2 stood at Rs 25.73 crore. The film’s India gross collection has reached Rs 43.47 crore so far.
Worldwide gross crosses Rs 74 crore
On Day 2, ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ collected Rs 17.00 crore from overseas markets. This has taken its total overseas gross collection to Rs 31.00 crore.With Rs 43.47 crore in India gross collections and Rs 31.00 crore from overseas, the film has reached a worldwide gross of Rs 74.47 crore after two days.
‘Jana Nayagan’ reaches Rs 196.15 crore
Meanwhile, Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ appears to be entering the final stage of its theatrical run. The film collected Rs 86 lakhs net in India on Day 24, compared with Rs 27 lakhs on Day 23.The Day 24 collection represents a 55.6% occupancy across 284 shows. ‘Jana Nayagan’ has collected Rs 196.15 crore in total India net collections.The film’s worldwide gross currently stands at Rs 320.84 crore. This includes an India gross of Rs 227.64 crore and an overseas gross of Rs 93.20 crore.‘Jana Nayagan’ collected Rs 153.55 crore in Week 1, followed by Rs 31.60 crore in Week 2. Its Week 3 collection stood at Rs 9.87 crore.
