‘Ramayana’: Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer set for November release in China; titled ‘Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince’
Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash in the lead roles, is set to expand its global footprint with a simultaneous release in China this November. The film is being promoted in the Chinese market under a new title – ‘Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince’.
‘Ramayana’ set for November release in China
The Chinese title was reportedly shared by the official Sony Pictures account on Weibo, with screenshots the new title and plot summary doing the rounds on fan handles. Sony Pictures, who is handling the international distribution of the film, is also highlighting the film as a Nitesh Tiwari directorial and associating it with his work on ‘Dangal’. Tiwari previously directed Aamir Khan-starrer wrestling film, which became a major success in the Chinese market following its release there in May 2017.
‘Dangal’ box office success in China
‘Dangal’, which released in India on December 23, 2016, arrived in Chinese theatres several months later in May 2017 and went on to earn approximately Rs 1,200-1,300 crore in China, equivalent to more than USD 190 million or around Yen 1.3 billion.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day ‘ success at Chinese box office
Besides the success of ‘Dangal’, the film’s release will follow the global box office success of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. The Tom Holland starrer, also distributed by Sony Pictures, grossed a cumulative total of approximately USD 185.4 million to USD 186.7 million in mainland China through the weekend of August 7–9, 2026, reports Variety. It retained the number-one spot at the Chinese box office in its second weekend with about USD 28.9 million to USD 29.1 million, following a massive USD 121.3 million five-day opening launch.

The official Chinese synopsis accompanying the trailer reads, “The first trailer for the epic Indian film Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince has been released! Ravana, the demon king, wreaks havoc across the three realms, while Vishnu, incarnated as Rama, descends to protect all beings. During his fourteen years of exile, Rama vanquishes Ravana, igniting Ravana’s fury. The abduction of his wife Sita further fuels Rama’s fighting spirit! When the vengeful king meets the guardian deity, a fateful battle spanning the three realms is about to erupt! Directed by NiteshTiwari (Dangal) and featuring a score by legendary composer Hans Zimmer, the film will be released globally in November 2026. Stay tuned!”
‘Ramayana’ cast and release schedule
‘Ramayana’ stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film also features Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, among a large ensemble cast.The project is being mounted as a two-part epic, with the first part scheduled for release in international markets on November 6 and in India on November 8, on the occasion of Diwali. The second part will release on Diwali 2027.
