Jenna Ortega on rising to fame and how ‘Wednesday’ influenced her: ‘There are times when I think like her’
Jenna Ortega’s rise to fame with Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Beetlejuice’ has had many effects on her. With the third season of ‘Wednesday’ approaching, Ortega recently teased new details about the show and shared more about her overall experience playing the gloomy character.

During a recent interview with Esquire, the actress revealed that the upcoming season of ‘Wednesday’ will be far more emotional since all the students are now in senior high school. She mentioned that along with showing “confrontational feelings” regarding family ties, the show will also explore “what it means to be an adult and what you see for your life. It’s not really until you get to the precipice of adulthood that you start to realise, Oh, God, well, maybe I’ve got to have a plan.”She further spoke about entering a new phase of her life, which she is readily accepting. “I’ve been in this experimental phase. It’s only been in the last year or so—especially with the show coming to a head and getting ready to enter this next chapter in my life and career—that I’ve really honed in. I’ve seen some things now. I’ve tried some things. Now it’s important to me to be focused on stories and characters that I feel truly connected to,” she quoted.
Jenna Ortega draws similarities between herself and Wednesday
During the interview, Ortega also revealed that she and Wednesday “mesh well” together, and she has learned quite a bit from the character. Not only that, but she revealed that since she has played the character so dedicatedly, a little bit of that dark personality has found its way into her. She added, “But while I’m in production, going over scripts over and over again, and I’m there all day, every day, and in every scene… Yeah, there are times when I think like her. Maybe she peeks out a bit more, here and there.”

Working with J.J. Abrams and Glen Powell was a great experience for Ortega, who shared that her character is unique and something she really liked playing. While talking about her character, she shared, “The character that I play is a lost young person in a new city. [She has] a confusing history and finds a friend in Glen Powell’s character…and that’s pretty much all I could say! She’s very knowledgeable about one thing. This is her obsession. She’s quite manic in the way that she loves this thing, and it takes over her whole personality.”She also described her character as a “freak in a different way.”

Ortega has quite a few projects lined up for herself. She will be starring in ‘Wednesday Season 3′ along with ‘How I Got Here.’ She is also playing an outdated android, adopted by a family for their daughter in ‘Klara and the Sun,’ which is slated for release in theatres on October 23. Further, ‘The Great Beyond’ will be released on October 1, 2027.In addition to these, she will take on the role of a gymnast in Mary Bronstein’s directorial work, ‘Nasty,’ with filming set to begin later this year. She has also booked another leading role in the upcoming film, ‘Lily Mae B,’ which will begin filming next year and will be written and directed by Leos Carax. Lastly, she will appear in the remake of the popular 90s film ‘Single White Female,’ which will also star ‘Bones and All’ actress Taylor Russell.
