Stefon Diggs has been around the Washington Commanders for only a few days. Quinn was asked Tuesday whether he had noticed more explosiveness from Washington’s offense since Diggs arrived. His answer came with an early warning for defenses. “There’s already been some explosive play passes. The interesting thing about Steph is he’s a smart player.”Quinn said Diggs can work against both zone and man coverage. He understands when to settle into space against zone looks and how to create separation one-on-one. That part of his game has stood out almost immediately.“I thought they were going to be really high, and they’re already past that.”The “they” in Quinn’s comment referred to Diggs’ football smarts and instincts. That matters because Diggs is learning a new offense on the fly. He joined Washington late in training camp and has had only a handful of practices to build timing with quarterback Jayden Daniels. Quinn’s Aug. 11 comments came less than a week after Diggs joined the Commanders.The résumé explains why Washington was willing to bring him in. Diggs has 942 receptions, 11,504 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns in 161 career games. He also made four consecutive Pro Bowls with the Buffalo Bills from 2020 through 2023.He remained productive in 2025. Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns for New England as the Patriots reached the Super Bowl one year after finishing 4-13.Washington needs that production. Second-year Commanders receiver Jaylin Lane told 106.7 The Fan’s “BMitch & Finlay” that Diggs began sharing reads and route details almost as soon as he arrived.“He’s coming in with knowledge, and he’s trying to give it to everybody. From day one he was coming to me talking, ‘This is what I am seeing.’ And he doesn’t even know the playbook yet. He knows the routes, he understands concepts.”That gives Washington another experienced voice alongside McLaurin. Diggs has spent more than a decade seeing NFL coverages, leverage and route adjustments.
