Ex-US President Joe Biden’s cancer ‘painful, spread into his bones and further’, says son Hunter
Former US President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread beyond his bones and is causing significant pain, his son Hunter Biden said in a BBC interview recently.“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden told BBC’s Newsnight, adding “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”Hunter Biden became emotional while discussing his father’s health and said the condition had been difficult to watch. “It’s really, really hard, and it’s really sad to watch,” he said.Biden, 83, revealed in May last year, less than four months after leaving the White House, that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.He later underwent radiation treatment and hormone therapy. A Biden spokesman said in October that he was receiving the treatments, while Biden had described his treatment as going “really well” last month.Hunter Biden said his father continued to remain active despite the illness. “He’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing… he so believes in this country,” he said.Biden’s health had faced scrutiny during his 2021-25 presidency, particularly after his poor performance in a June 2024 debate against Donald Trump. Biden, then 81, withdrew from the 2024 presidential race following pressure from Democrats, and Trump went on to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris, who became the Democratic nominee.Biden served as US president from 2021 to 2025 and was previously vice president under Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017. His presidential memoir is scheduled for release on November 17.Before Hunter Biden’s remarks, former First Lady Jill Biden had also spoken about Joe Biden’s health, saying he was waking up “seven times a night” before his diagnosis. She said she had raised concerns with White House doctors but thought the issue had been addressed. Jill said Biden will “forever live with cancer” and now undergoes testing every three months along with medication.
