Sadie Sink, after riding out her success with ‘Stranger Things,’ is taking on the MCU and the brand new ‘X-Men’ franchise. Her debut in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ along with future projects lined up with cast members like Kit Connor and Samara Weaving, means she will be quite busy for the next couple of years. In one of her latest interviews, the star opened up about taking on the character Jean Grey for the new Spider-Man film and discussed how it feels to helm such a big character.
Sadie Sink talks about taking over Jean Grey’s character for the coming version of ‘X-Men’
Sadie Sink is ready to portray the powerful character of Jean Grey for upcoming projects under the ‘X-Men’ franchise. Sink recently talked to Variety about playing Grey, “Honestly, it was amazing!” She further talked about how Steve Lacy spoiled the bit that Jean Grey was appearing in the film right at the finish line, after everyone had spent considerable effort to keep her identity a secret.She added, “I was like, ‘Ah!’ He kind of set me free in a lot of ways. And I’m such a big fan of his.” Further on, she also opened up about knowing nothing of the character she was playing before she was cast. She provided more context, adding that, “Honestly, I knew nothing about her. People had started rumours about me playing that character—for like years, it had kind of been circulating online—so that was all I knew about her. But I had never seen ‘X-Men,’ so I was just like, unfamiliar.”

The actress also revealed that Kevin Feige contacted her directly for the role. She mentioned that they “set up a meeting and just told me about the character, about her role in ‘Spider-Man.’ Then I did more research on her, and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, this is a no-brainer!’ She’s such an iconic figure in X-Men and in comics, and I’m very excited to bring my iteration of her to life.”Sink also opened up about her portrayal of Jean and what intrigued her the most. She added that she wanted to give Jean a good backstory, which in the film’s case was focusing more on her relationship with her sister. “She’s very flawed. You’re meeting her at a strange point, because I don’t think she is someone who wants to harm, but she herself has been harmed, so that’s all she knows. So, giving her that backstory and a motive behind her actions is really powerful,” the ‘The Whale’ star further shared.While the secret is out of the bag now, the film is in theatres and has already crossed USD 1 billion in box office sales; only a few people knew about it from the beginning. Since the offer landed on her doorstep when she was still working with the Duffer Brothers for ‘Stranger Things,’ they were the first ones to know about the entire ordeal. Sink also revealed that the two provided her with a lot of encouragement and support for the role and even told her that they knew that she was going to do a great job in it.While no major details have been shared about the upcoming ‘X-Men’ film, Sink is confirmed to reprise her role as Jean Grey with a whole new band of mutants in tow.
