On Thursday, two rusty mortar shells were found and destroyed in the district’s Mankote sector, officials said.An Army patrolling party had detected the landmine and informed the BDS on Wednesday evening. The injured duo was part of the BDS team that arrived at the spot to dismantle the explosive when it blew up, officials said. As part of the reforms, the existing route-wise categorisation of licences will be abolished NEW DELHI: Container Train Operators (CTOs) will now be able to operate across the entire Indian railways network with a single licence by paying a one-time fee, in a move akin to the National Permit system for trucks. Under the revised framework, operators will instead be eligible for a fresh 20-year licence after successfully completing the initial 20-year concession period, with no additional renewal fee.”The changes will be notified through a Gazette notification,” the railway ministry said.As part of the reforms, the existing route-wise categorisation of licences will be abolished. The ministry said the simplified framework would lower compliance costs and provide greater operational flexibility. Some BJP workers began raising anti-women slogans during 7th anniversary “celebrations” of Article 370’s abrogation SRINAGAR: BJP distanced itself Thursday from slogans raised by some of its workers during “celebrations” marking the seventh anniversary of Article 370’s abrogation the previous day after backlash over their alleged anti-women content.“The party firmly believes in respecting the dignity of women and remains committed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women empowerment. BJP has been at the forefront of empowering women and the historic decision to provide 33% reservation for women reflects that commitment,” BJP general secretary (organisation) Ashok Koul said.During Wednesday’s event in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, the BJP workers altered a well-known slogan of J&K’s governing National Conference (NC) associated with Article 370. For decades, the NC slogan has been “…Aze hund izat te Faze hund izat 370 (the honour of Azi and Fazi is Article 370)”. Azi and Fazi are names of women in the Valley.The BJP workers modified the slogan to “…Moklev Fazi hund te Azi hund izat (the honour of Fazi and Azi has ended)”. This ran counter to the NC slogan’s emphasis on dignity and respect in its discourse on Article 370.Images of BJP workers dancing to these slogans evoked sharp social media criticism with people decrying them as derogatory to women, forcing the party to issue the clarification.“Some individuals may have raised slogans based on their personal thinking or emotions, but those slogans do not represent BJP’s official stand or the views of the leaders who led the rally. Sonam said the government has about one month to address these issues, otherwise they shall be compelled to launch another movement in Ladakh SRINAGAR: Leh Apex Body functionaries Sonam Wangchuk and Chering Dorjay Lakrook gave Union government a one-month deadline to withdraw criminal cases against around 80 protesters charged during last year’s agitation for Sixth Schedule status and statehood for Ladakh, compensate families of four demonstrators killed in police firing, and provide relief to those seriously wounded, warning of a fresh movement if their demands remain unmet.“People in Ladakh are deeply hurt as four unarmed civilians lost their lives last year and dozens were wounded. We hope government will review what happened and provide compensation to the families of those killed (on Sept 24 last year in Leh) and withdraw all cases against those who were arrested and jailed,” Wangchuk said Thursday in Leh.“We are giving government about one month to address these issues. If it fails to do so, we will be compelled to launch another movement in Ladakh,” he said, adding Ladakh “should be governed with trust and respect, not fear”.Lakrook condemned the recent police action against NEET paper leak protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi but called the crackdown in Leh far harsher.
