Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ has encountered another hurdle in Karnataka amid the ongoing Kaveri water dispute.Days after facing disruptions in Mandya, the film’s screenings were affected once again following protests by pro-Kannada organisations in Bengaluru.According to Cinema Express, members of the organisations gathered outside Poornima and Urvashi theatres on Friday, where the film was being screened. The protesters objected to the exhibition of a Tamil film while tensions over the Kaveri water-sharing issue continue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Shows halted and replaced with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Reportedly, the screenings of ‘Jana Nayagan’ were stopped at Poornima, Urvashi, and a few other single-screen theatres in Bengaluru.The affected theatres reportedly replaced the scheduled shows with Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. Theatre managements also removed Vijay’s cut-outs and promotional banners from the premises after the protests.Videos showing the demonstrations and the removal of the promotional material soon began circulating on social media.

Second disruption in Karnataka

This is the second time ‘Jana Nayagan’ has faced interruptions in Karnataka since its release.Earlier this week, scheduled screenings at Gurushree Theatre in Mandya were cancelled after members of a Kannada organisation protested against the screening of the film. The protest was also linked to the ongoing Kaveri water dispute.

According to Sacnilk, the film collected an estimated Rs 3.55 crore net in India on Day 9. The figure represents a 12.3% decline from the Rs 4.05 crore earned on the previous day.The film was screened across 4,165 shows on Friday. After nine days, its India net collection has reached Rs 157.10 crore. The India gross collection now stands at Rs 183.45 crore.On Day 9, ‘Jana Nayagan’ collected Rs 2 crore gross in international markets. This has taken its overseas gross collection to Rs 85 crore.The film’s worldwide gross collection has climbed to Rs 268.45 crore after nine days in theatres. Apart from Vijay, H. Vinoth’s directorial also features Pooja Hegde and the Malayalam actress Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles.
